Its unfortunate that The Philadelphia Herp Society has gone to waste because of Mark Miller. As far as I can tell he pretty much owns any rights and privileges that come with it and continues for years to do nothing with it.

I assume nothing can be done to take it away from him. That is the biggest issue with old timer herpers, they want to hold on to feuds and grudges in spite of anyone else.

well ,we will just have to start from scratch, anyone know the steps it takes to start a club,is there and official website or something to find out info of the rules and guide lines for a club.
Seems to be enough interest to get something off the ground

you need to have a place to have meetings. Maybe find a pet store or zoo that would allow it.

You would need a leadership: President, secretary, someone to handle money

You need to get guest speakers. Most times you have to pay them for their time which is why you collect memberships and sell t-shirts, etc.

You should get an accountant or lawyer involved for tax and legal advice.

    Plenty of volunteers.

Donations to get it started which means you'll need people that will trust you to send you money.

Its a very big undertaking. Which is why you don't see them popping up like weeds.

You would want to look up online how to start a non-profit organization.

May set up at a few local reptile shows for membership drives. Dont plan on having a meeting every month or else you may get overwhelmed. Try bi-monthly.

Find local breeders that would be willing to put on presentations in exchanging for being able to sell animals to members at meetings.

Before anyone wastes time getting formal, how about setting up a meet at an easily accessable location and see who shows up.

Setting up a network and having informal gatherings is the first step. You don't need an official club to just get together. Maybe a pancake breakfast on the weekend or a diner after work during the week.

What happened to this? Did people lose interest, or is this taking place and I am missing out? LOL. I am located in South Philaelphia, PA and think this is an awesome idea. It doesn't have to be something so big. It can just be 1 or 2 nights out of the week where we would meet and throw ideas around on what we can do, trips we can take and stuff like that. We have to get together first. It can be a like a North Jersey and a South Jersey meet and say South Philly and North Philly meets, etc.... I was just roaming around on here and came across this post and wanted to know if anything got off the ground...
