I'm starting out with all females. I picked up a pied, a het pied, and a mojave, all 2010's. I'll probably add another female somewhere along the line--not quite sure of which morph yet. It's going to take some time to grow them up to breeding size, so it makes more sense to me to start out with the girls.
I've noticed a whole bunch of folks selling off single and double gene proven male breeders after their females have been bred. I plan on picking up one the spring that my girls are hitting around 1300 to 1600 gms. I can get in six months of quarrantine and have it ready to breed that winter. I also want a male pied but I haven't seen a bunch of proven male pieds for sale, so I'll probably pick one up and grow it out from the 2011 or 2012 crop. I'll keep the male pied if he turns out to be a decent breeder, but the other one will be sold/traded and replaced the next year for another morph.
If I do that each year and save a couple of the better females to raise for breeders from the one's I've hatched I'll end up with a nice assortment and probably waaaay too many snakes.

Great decision already with the bumblebee right there you have two very important gene's already. Next I'd get a pied and a couple norm females or a yellowbelly female. I left out lesser's but you gotta have those too.:gj:
If I had to start all over I would get these four without a doubt.
1. A very hott bumblebee.
2. Pied
3. Lesser
4. Albino

Male bee, female super pastel, and female lesser (or butter). Should be able to do that for around 1g, especially if you get everything from 1 source.

if 1k was all i had then id go with bumble bee male albino female and lesser female. which if your in the right circles is very possible for 1k but on average a little more
Re: If you had to choose 3 Ball Python morphs to start with...
I am starting this year and have picked up a pastel female, I hope and plan to get 2 het pied females later this year and possibly a normal female. If I am really lucky I might pick up a yellowbelly and/or fire also, haven't really decided on male or female.
Next year, spider or bumblebee male het axanthic.
In 2 years, male pied = D.
Then finally an axanthic het albino female and the yellowbelly or fire if I haven't got them yet.
In about 10 years! A phantom!
Of course if at any time I have some spare cash  any other morph I can get. I currently have 2 normal males.../sigh They are awesome snakes tho.
