Just realized I forgot to post one of the last pics I got of this mom eating. There aren't a lot of pics out there of brooding moms eating (that I could find anyway) and I think it definitely helps to dispel the rumors and spread of misinformation that a maternally incubating mom. ;)

That was taken on the 6th. I don't know why I didn't include it here back then. She prefers live over fresh killed meals this time around, which adds a little bit of hassle to feeding but as long as I'm supervising I suppose it's fine. She never leaves the clutch. She just partially uncoils and waits for the rat to come within striking distance. After that, she just uses the extended part of her body to constrict while the rest of her is still hugging the eggs. I certainly admire her multitasking skills. lol

As for current updates. There really isn't much to say. She's still very much not on board with allowing me to get new candling pics or video and I don't want to stress her out by taking her off the clutch. I don't know what the deal is with her this year. I'll be giving her next season off so she doesn't have to concern herself with this all over again. Maybe she'll go back to being a laid back mom after a vacation. ;)

We're up to day 58 now and the eggs have been sweating a bit. Hoping to see what's in there in the near future. :)

She just won't let me candle her eggs, even after offering her a rat. lol So, in lieu of candling pics, here are more feeding pics. And a "Try it, I dare ya." pic.

One of the uppermost eggs has discolored a bit in the places that were already wrinkled. I think it's a result of getting dripped on and the water just lingered in the crevice. Other than that, it still looks fine and the last time I was able to candle it, I could see the baby moving in there. Just have to wait now to see what sort of baby will come out of there. :)

When I had my normal girls, I used maternal incubation all except for one time. I didn't keep snakes for many years and until recently I figured that maternal incubation had gone the way of the 45 RPM records, and I'm glad to see that it's still done.

I thought that my one snake was weird for eating while she was on her clutch. (giving me the stink eye everytime I picked up the lid on her cage)

I'm thinking about letting my het pied try in a couple of years. She's 9 months old and a little under two pounds, so I figure that she'll be a good size by then. And then I won't have to pull the eggs out from under a snake that is unpleasant on a good day...a very good day. :)

I had a corn clutch that just started pipping earlier today so I thought maybe the ball clutch would be, too (since they were due around the same time). When I opened her tub, I saw a tiny head peeking out but as soon as I slid her out the head disappeared back into its egg. I'll check back in with her later to see if there are any better photo ops. ;)

Just got back home for the night and checked in on her. Still just one pipped egg so far but at least I could see it's head this time. :) The rest of the clutch look like squished marshmallows. lol Wish they'd hurry up and join their sibling.
