I was talking to a guy about my little hobby last night and he asked me if all pythons really will strangle people. I told him it would probably be a better world if they did. But no even large ones have no intrest in people or even attempting to eat a person. Especially a ball python. He then responded oh those are the ones that get 20 feet long right? I just scratched my head and tried to reeducate him without dying of laughter.

If I was talking to the same guy I don't think I could hold back all the facepalming I would be doing with the occasional "Are....are you serious?" thrown in there for good measure. :weirdface

You can see this conversation on the snakebytes tv fan page on facebook. It is between me and some kid.

Kid: Im thinking of getting a venomous snake and i have two questions one what should i feed it and were do i get it. two what should i do first if i get nit

Me: If you have to ask, you are not ready for any snake, let alone a hot snake.

Kid: HAHA BUT I DO HAVE A BALL PYTHON ITS JUST IVE NEVER OWNED A V SNAKE AND I WAS NERVEOUS

Me: There is a BIG difference between a ball python and a venomous snake. Hot snakes require a level of responsibility and care far beyond what the average person will provide. If you are under 18 forget it. If not, it is a really really bad idea.

I hope to god he never stumbles on kingsnake.com
I've had enough retardation for one day.
My brain can't take it. I'm not answering ANY more yahoo questions either! Don't even get me started on that! end of rant.

Well, they did not call a ball python specifically venomous on that show, but they did claim they were dangerous twice.

In one seen a snake appears out of nowhere, climbs rapidly up the pants leg of one one the stars. He gets an odd expression, then he jumps and says, " Something definitely just bit me" then he passes out.

In the second scene, one of the adults on the ship confronts a few of the kids and claims a snake bit someone on board and he had to suck out the poison, the very next scene shows a room full of balls and cornsnakes and the supposed poison remover panics.

They also showed numerous people with ball pythons and cornsnakes near or on them who were obviously panicked about the killer snakes.

Perhaps it's not as bad as some, but for a kid's show the point was pretty clear, snakes of any kind, even rubber, are dangerous.

In another "fatal Attractions" the subject had the following animals:
The baboon, 2 african lions, 2 tigers, wolves, and the FEARSOME deadly ball python

They seriously listed a ball python with all those big cats and wolves....

    *facepalm*

I don't think children look into those shows as much as we do. I have a 6 y/o sister and a 4 y/o son who watches those same shows, and they ran up to a 10 foot bermese python at a pet expo with excitement. Their brains are physically not as matured as ours, and they see it as entertainment. Maybe my sister and son are an exception, but I really don't think they see it like we do...

And is it just me....or was this :hijackd: lol.

Oh and to get a little bit back on topic, people's stupidity never ceases to amaze me. I work for a police dept, and I can't tell you how many calls I get in the summer for a garter snake in someones yard. As if it's a deadly venomous snake that's going to eat their kids. I get so angry when people buy snakes and know NOTHING about what they just bought. I was just telling my co worker, on another forum this guy asked why his BP's belly was all red and bloody and "suddenly acting aggresive" HELLO! His heat pad wasn't being monitored and he got severely burned! I just don't understand how people can just get a pet of any kind, and not know before hand how to take care of it. It boggles my mind, but I try not to dwell. Luckily, stupidity isn't contageous ;)
