Wayne's garter snakes

Beautiful snakes.

People who have never kept a garter have no idea what they're missing out on.............ton of personality in those little snakes.

1. Sky is just his name. Puget sound garter snakes are usually blue like that, the "mutation" is the ones with red stripes.

I have a Thamnophis Radix (Midwestern garter) that is Axanthic, the green is missing yellow pigment, so it results in a blue snake.

2. Yes the baby garter was eating a fish. They all eat chopped up pinkies now.

3. common garters like Melanistic and Puget Sound snakes are around $100 each.

I really find this post fascinating. I live on the Sound and have only seen a couple wild guys. They were a dark black (fresh shed) with the yellow lines down the side. Can the blue and the red mutation be found in the wild?

Yes, I bought Sky from a guy who caught him in his yard.

They are best as display animals anyways, most of them are intolerant to handling.

A few are mellow, mostly females. Males tend to be really flighty when picked up.

No I have not been to white plains in many years...

Very cool I don't think I ever realized how many different garters there are. I have always loved PS garters yours are gorgeous!
