Re: Need help asap!
I have a picky male pastel that was bitten on the eye last year. It looked worse than it was. I simply kept his enclosure very clean and applied Bacitracin once a day. Bacitracin does not have added pain killers unless you buy it that way. After his next shed the eye was good as new. The outer cap protects the inner cap in cases like these. If the inner cap is not punctured, the eye will always heal with proper treatment.

Re: Need help asap!
Okay thanks. I'm glad to know. I don't think it's as bad as it could of been, because I haven't seen any thing like puss or something along those lines (yet). But I want to assume something would of shown up with in 24 hours. I'll be treating the eye with neosporin.
@Steve: I've heard that to. So I'm glad she's going into shed if thats the case. But when I noticed the color of the belly, it was via artificial light, not natural light (due to it being night time where I am), and I've noticed that the lights I use to light my room will make something seem a totally different color then what it really is. So I'm going to just double check to belly tomorrow. But like I said, I don't know if it could be possible due to the food in her stomach(because her tummy is still quite full, and I can still kinda make out the shape of the rat). I haven't ever handled her within 24 hours due to the size of the food I offer. But I know when I hold her after 48 hours, I never see any pink. Sorry, my inexperience is showing. But I have full trust in my vet is she does shed. the first time I brought her in, she was in the middle of shedding, he put on some artificial tear stuff, and it make the eye caps almost see through! So he was able to check out her eyes that way. So I'll have to see what happens.

Does anyone have an anatomical diagram of a snake eye? I'd find it very interesting. Like, how deep from the brille is the iris, lens, etc.?

Oh, that's cool.

Re: Need help asap!
Okay. So another little update. The girls been a little more active, and her eyes is looking better everyday.
So I just have a few more questions. I keep a log about everything that's been going on, should I print it off and take it with me to the vet? More so just I can remember what I have done, and can bring up a few other points to him. I don't think it would hurt to bring it, just as a precaution, and he could look it over if he wanted to also.
Now another thing, I've decided to try f/t on her now. What are a few ways to thaw out the rat? I've read the horror stories about some thawing's, and I'm honestly horrified about having the thing explode on me. Would the warm water trick be best, or slow thawing over time? I won't be able to get the food until thursday, which is her feeding day. Any tips on what others do to thaw out the prey for their snake will be taken to mind. Thanks.

Thawing is as easy as leaving it out on the counter for the day. Then warm it well with a hair dryer to give it a heat signature. When switching from live you may need to get the rat wet. This releases more scent and snakes will take it more readily. Use feeding tongs and make it move slightly. We call it the zombie dance. It may take a few tries but if you wait a couple weeks to feed again you will have more luck with her taking it.
As for the vet. Yes let them know what you have been doing but do not let the vet pick at the eye. Many vets will want to start picking. There is no need to mess with it if it is healing. Picking will cause more harm than good. Just continue the antibiotic ointment treatment. Raise the humidity when her other eye goes cloudy and keep it up until she sheds. That damaged cap should come right off. The only reason the vet should really do anything is if he suspects the inner cap is damaged and an infection is present. This is unlikely if it is improving like you say. Even so, nothing more than a round of antibiotics would be needed in that case. I dont think the vet will need to do anything honestly. Keep doing what you are doing and the eye will be good as new in no time.

Re: Need help asap!
Okay thanks for the tip. I'll make sure he doesn't pick at it.
Now I have the appt. at 3:45 on her feeding day. Should I just not bother feeding her that day, or do you think it would be okay to attempt to feed her at like midnight? I'm not going to bother feeding her before due to obvious reason's. lol. If I don't get to feed her this week, I'm not concerned about her losing weight. She's bulked up nice d^-^b Plus I know her missing one feeding isn't a big deal, and I know it'll help her get extra hungry for next feeding, and might be more willing to take the f/t.
Now for the blow dryer thing, I don't have a blow dryer. If I was to dangle the rats head over a hot light would that work? Sorry, I love my snake, but I have no budget to buy a blow dryer right now. I've been planing for a big trip. And I'll get one after I get back from it. So I'm just looking for a short term thing to warm the head up. I would borrow my mom's blow dryer, but I know she wouldn't be to keen on that. I mean heck, she want's nothing to do with a towel I use just to keep the humidity up in my snakes cage. hehe. I don't mean to sound like I'd neglect her(that is the last thing on my mind). I'm just looking for a wicked short term thing, seeing how I'm going to be leaving in just a few weeks (I have my dad to keep up on her humidity, and I'm gonna try to feed her before I leave. I'm only gonna be gone for a weekend).

Re: Need help asap!
I've used a heat lamp to warm up the rodent after i thawed it in hot water. Worked fine for me. Good luck at the vet

Re: Need help asap!
A heat lamp will work. Any hot light bulb will if you hold the rats head close to it and rotate it a couple times until its good and warm. You can also put it in a container of very hot water from the faucet for about 10-15 minutes or until the water is not as hot.
I wouldnt feed her if she has a vet visit to go to. Just wait until the next feeding day. Many of us have snakes that go off feed for months with little to no weight loss. If she is a healthy weight an extra week will not phase her.

Re: Need help asap!
Here is a dumb question --if you are really concerned and want to get the snake to the vet before next Thursday. Does your vet require payment the same day of treatment? Or would he/she be willing to work with you on the payment, or even let you post date a check? Just some thoughts, if you really don't want to wait to get the snake in.
Also, on a side note -- obviously do what you want, but I would ditch the repti-carpet (I have never heard anything positive about it). Just use some newspaper, or you can do what I do (if you want something that is still cheap but looks a bit nicer) and pick up a box of packing paper at Home Depot for about $10 -- I am still on a box that I bought a year ago.
Good luck!!
