Something That I see right off that you can do to help out is to cover most of the screen with aluminum foil or aluminum tape. Just leave about a 5"-6" opening where the lamp is. This will help keep your humidity it and will still allow for ventilation.
The next thing I would suggest is to get a digital thermometer and hygrometer to measure temps and humidity. Acu-Rite makes a good one. It is actually an indoor/outdoor thermometer/hygrometer, but it is perfect for reptile enclosures. You set the unit on the cool side and run the probe to the warm side. You can get them at Lowes and Home Depot in the outdoor/ lawn & garden section, or Wal-Mart in the hardware section. They will cost you about $12. The dial or analog gages are notoriously inaccurate. The measuring equipment should be placed low in the tank, that way you can monitor conditions where the snake spends most of it's time.
Also, when using a UTH, you should get a thermostat to control it. You can get them from about $30 on up, depending on how much you have or want to spend. An unregulated UTH can get hot enough to burn your snake. Some Pet stores do carry thermostats but you can order them online and save about 25%-30%.
Something that will help your snake settle in and feel more secure will be to cover 3 sides of the tank. It will make the tank feel smaller and not so open and spacious. You can use anything like construction paper, poster board, foam board or, as alot of people use, aquarium backing. When I was using glass tanks, I took the foam board, available in the school supplies section of Wal-Mart and Target, cut it into 3 panels to fit the ends and back of the tank. Then I put the aquarium scenery on that and them applied it to the tank. The foam board will also help insulate the tank in the winter...

You should go to Wally World and get teh Accurite indoor/outdoor termometer. I got one yesterday and put it in, and my temps were way different from what teh crappy dial types were telling me
