I know that since snakes are our pets, it's easy to feel this way.

I personally am ecstatic. They don't belong there, and I have no issue with them dying, and am especially glad that it wasn't anything more than nature taking course. They don't belong there.

I can only imagine how many more pythons are going to die from infections caught from weakened immune systems due to the cold.. Hopefully ALL of them!

Re: We've been saying it all along...
I am encouraged as well, but note how they were careful to point out that this is only temporary, and that just a few normal warm winter's will have the remaining snakes population explosion and we'll be right back where we started.

Why can't they just admit they were wrong, instead of saying we got lucky it got cold, but this is still a major issue.

haha I was just going to mention the same thing Gale ..

So this is probably a silly question, but why/how will they be back after a few warm winters? I know they don't mean the dead ones  , but where will these new ones come from to get us back to the beginning of this situation, especially in only a few years? Has it only taken a few years to get to this point?

Sorry for the dumb questions  , just trying to get a better understanding.

That's the only reason why I'm sad is the thought of them getting RI's from the cold. That's such a horrible way to die. Think of how frantic we get when we can't breathe. I'm assuming it would be like us dying from a horrible pnemonia. :( I've had pnemonia and it sucks.

But yes, it is good for our case and better for the eco system.

as much as i love snakes they dont belong there and if it wasnt for stupid owners letting them go down there as well as the hurricane that caused damage and as a result of it the snakes got loose and escaped we wouldnt be fighting for our right to keep the snakes. So with them dead and gone its far better than them alive. Still sucks but its better for us that the cold weather whiped them out.

I still wonder how many snake owners just let a burm or afrock out in the everglades. I mean, that sounds like more work than I'd expect a negligent owner to do for their animal.

I have heard that a lot of baby burms, rocks, retics, ect get thrown off the boat when being imported. If they are not attractive enough or look less healthy than others they are tossed. Was told that an estimated 1000's of babies are tossed every year. If 10% of those babies manage to survive there's a problem. If this rumor is true.
