Re: So I'm going to try this....
i saw a t.v. program about how capitalism has influenced the food industry so much that these people with their own meat & poultry processing plants do terrible things to animals without batting an eyelash. i mean, people have to get fed. that's a fact. but don't just turn a blind eye to HOW kill and process these animals.

after i saw about 10 minutes of the program i barfed (ewww, probable TMI)... and then i didn't eat meat for 3/1/2 weeks. i didn't even miss it. looked up veganism and found healthy, yummy, nutritious food that made me forget why i had ever eaten meat in the first place.

but as someone said earlier in this post, sometimes we're all in a hurry and meat products and/or fast food is the easiest way.

i started eating meat again cause its fast and easy, and(since i'm cuban) ALL MY FAMILY EAT MEAT! heck, i LOVE a fat juicy steak. but i would never critizise someone who takes the vow of not partaking of meat products.
They are a better person than I.

Switching back to eating meat for me was mainly due to my family. We are a steak and potatoes family. Country fried steak, pork chops, bbq ribs, etc. When I went vegetarian the first time I had a hard time convincing my grandmother that no, chicken was not vegetarian, and no I can't eat fish. Gotta love her though she tried to understand. She even got me a vegetarian cookbook for christmas in 2008. :D Holidays were hard since I could barely eat anything. Even the veggies she cooked had meat in them. :rage: So I switched back. An omnivorous diet was just easier and I could get food really cheap as opposed to eating clean healthy food that emptied my wallet pretty quick. I'm going to try and eat cheap but still eat healthy this time around. I need to go shopping soon today though. We have no vegan food in the house, much less fruits and veggies. Shopping list for today:

Unsweetened Original Flavor Rice Milk - Love this stuff! (used to hate it)
    Original Soy Milk
    Earth Balance Butter
    Cream of Wheat
    Rolled Oats
    Turbinado Sugar
Soynut Butter - tried this stuff this week. It tastes amazing! I'm in love!
    Bread - vegan of course
A Variety of Fruits and Veggies - enough for 2-3 days.

wow...i think i just drooled a little.:) i'm at work so it's about lunch time right now...and i'm starving...
i try to take a week off every once in a while from the omni diet and do veggie for a week just to try and clean the blood and system out. it works wonders.
omni is just easier though (not to mention cheaper...)getting started is the hardest part. once everyone gets acclimated to the eating habit it becomes as easy as washing your hands before and after you handle your bp ;)

if you keep the rythm and continue with your choice no matter what anyone else tells you, it'll also get easier with time because you'll adjust and tweak your lifestyle in order to accomodate your dietary choice. you'll be happy, your family will be happy and you'll all be healthier. :D

Thanks. I just got done cleaning out my pantry to make room for new foods. I tried to wake hubby up to get him to come shopping with me but he said he set an alarm for 1pm. That man will sleep forever if let him. As soon as he gets up we are going grocery shopping. I haven't eaten anything yet. I had a last farewell meal last night that consisted of almost 3lbs of crab legs, a salad, and some fries.

All those foods you listed sound absolutely gross. I could never be a vegan. I like meat/dairy too much, and I like junk food. That, and too much fruits/veggies are hell on my digestive system. Be vegan if you want. Just don't give me crap about eating meat and raising meat animals.

Not really. It's called personal preference...And the above quote is basically why I said "Just don't give me crap about eating meat and raising meat animals."

Understood, no one is giving you anything about your personal preferences... your attitude is not wanted here.

Do you remember what thumpers mom said.... "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say nothing at all."

May be gross to you but they are oh so yummy to me! Personal preference. And I haven't told you to go vegan or given you crap about your dietary choices. I simply posted about what I feel and what I plan on doing. I was also looking for a few "Good luck" replies. I've gotten a few and it makes me feel good.
