I stand behind selective breeding and producing animals that are quality instead of just producing animals. My first clutch on the ground right now is a mojo x normal, but I wouldnt have ever bred him if he didnt look like what he does.

I am hoping to carry over that brown and grey faded look. If you look at his neck and white lips, he is very faded and his coloring is on the opposite end of the spectrum of what a normal mojave is thought to be. He has bred one female, she layed eggs so that is it for him until there is another project that I want to include him in sometime in the future. Also the last time he will breed a normal. I dont want to put him with multiple females and overproduce mojaves, my goal is limited production of higher quality animals.

Now on the other end, I have a lesser that I picked up for value pricing, and I got what I paid for.

With him, the color is darker than what I NOW consider a high quality lesser. He was picked up when I thought buying a couple co doms and putting them with a bunch of normals was they way to go in the hobby. I have since sold off most of my normals, and his mate is a reduced pattern female to hopefully clear out the pattern and lighten him up. Robin's lesser is an example of what I want a lesser to look like. [edit- cant seem to find a link to your pic, I was sure it was yours though, am I wrong?]
Here is the female that he will be bred with this year.

She looks dark but the picture is taken in the dark with flash, she is in my avatar in a better shot.

Selective breeding in my opinion is the only way to go for the hobbyist. Unless your goal is mass production, every animal in your collection should be hand picked carefully with future goals in mind. Color, pattern, if youre very picky ; temperment.

I started buying up everything, and then spent a couple months selling off what I didnt feel upheld the quality that I wanted to produce. Lesson learned the hard way but early.

Your pastel is SMOKING hot!!!!! I love seeing really hot pastels!

Thanks, that's how I feel about Bustos as well. Not only because he's my first snake, but he's my best snake.

I agree one hundred percent with the idea of selective breeding. When I first started acquiring ball pythons I shopped around and paid special attention to getting animals that I thought were excellent examples of their morph. I love my cinnamons as dark as they come, and so settled on this girl (in shed and an adult in picture):

Last year she was crossed to my male pastel, who is not the nicest pastel on the planet but has some nice blushing and good color:

The two together crossed pretty well, and made what I think are some stunning Pewters and Cinnies:

The pair I am crossing this year is an even better example of what I consider to be selective breeding. The female pastel het for hypo I am breeding is one of the nicest pastels I have seen. She has a great 'blonde' sort of color and fantastic blushing:

She is being bred to a mojo het for hypo who is a dark mojo (I like them that way) with lots of blushing in between his pattern. Together I think they will make some killer babies, and momma just started glowing a few days ago!
