I have an extra bedroom that my snake rack, if I get that far, will go in. I don't really have another place in the house that I can put a rodent rack except the garage and I don't like that. It seems like if the food is constantly present, the snakes will be in feeding mode whenever they are hungry and might cause some issues with handling.

depends on your snake. I used to keep rats and snakes in the same room, I only had 4 snakes back then and none of them were a problem, i figured that would have to get used to it. but I keep them down stairs now. some snakes I can handle right after holding a rat, most realize my hand is not a rat. but 1 ball python I have is a moron when she smells food, striking at me on the other side of the tub....I could only imagine if there was rats in there 24/7

and as for keeping the smell down, febreze has a plug-in freshner and has pet oder replacements for it and they work really well, I just put them in when I have people over. I have 20 mice/ASF cages and 10 rat cages, clean once a week, plug-in for parties, smell is not a problem.
