My picks for UFC 104 are:
Shogun (Yes I may be the only one :P but I stick with my favs)
Velasquez
Neer
Stevenson
Rumble
Right now I'm just picking for the main card.
Yea.... I was really on the fence with the Dragon/Shogun fight. But in the end I have to go with the DRAGON. Should be a great fight either way.

I'm looking to watch some matches with my karate buddies. We are all world class fighters, so it'd be quite funny to see us watching the matches, lol. I tend not to watch ufc that much, mainly because it frustrates me. Machida is deff a favorite of mine, I love watching him fight because of his shotokan background, which is what we are all trained in :D It's always funny listening to the announcers talking about his "odd and unorthodox grandmaster karate style" lmao

Well it's odd in the MMA world because basically no one used it since back in the old days of UFC, where no one really used it effectively. Then here comes Machida who was able to use it for MMA and be very successful at it. But that's the only thing everyone looks at in Machida, no one looks at the fact he has Muay Thai, a BJJ blackbelt, and wrestling skills as well.
I used to take Kempo karate, I wish I took Shotokan, IMO it's one of the better Karate styles.
As far as not watching much UFC, do you mean you don't watch MMA in general or just the UFC?

I mean..if it's on, I'll watch it 80% of the time. When they start this "ground and pound" junk and never move back away from that, I get bored and flip the channel. Ground fighting kind of annoys me. I was brought up getting one hit after they touch the ground, or 3seconds, whichever is first. We were taught that it was disrespectful; not part of "the code". While I know that it's HIGHLY EFFECTIVE! (the bjj and all)and a great fighting tool/style, I really don't see how it's a good thing to draw that out quite as long as they are allowed to, at least from a career standpoint.
You make some great points about his fighting style. Very true. He's one of the few that actually have a solid background in multiple martial arts. He doesn't drastically overextend, doesn't signal exactly where he's going to attack, knows that you can actually MOVE SIDEWAYS, ect.
I just remember how my friends and I watched Machida and that one guy fight earlier this year, and after Joe Roagen (or however you spell his name) was talking about him...we all busted out laughing simultaneously about the kungfu karate master blackbelt style that he was attributing to him, and it remains a running joke with us lol.
He definitely has very good technical skills, and yea no one really gives him any cred for the muay tai or bjj. Those of us trained in some form of martial art can kind of differentiate between the styles when we see them, but I don't think very many "Average joes" really can. And you know how "karate" is kind of used as a blanket term. ::cringe::
More to the point of me not watching it as of late though, is that I don't have CABLE!!!:rofl: :tears:

He already announced his intention to stop fighting, he wanted to stop at the end of this year, but has contractual obligations through 2010.

I don't enjoy MMA anymore. It quickly turned from awesomeness to lameness. In the beginning the competition was exciting and as close to real fighting as you can get. Now it's overly regulated and boring. It's like boxing now.
I still remember to first few UFC's fondly though.

So I just got done watching the fight soo...
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst judging ever.. That's all I have to say.
Shogun won that IMO but judges gave the nod to Machida. Shogun was robbed IMO.

I agree, Rothwell wasn't winning, but he sure as hell wasn't out.
Shogun is the true LHW champ.
