Re: How do you choose names for your Ball pythons?
I always think I'm gonna do some cool theme with the names of animals in my collections, but somehow that never works out. My chinchillas, for example, were originally all named after terms from astrophysics -- so, I had Muon, Quark, Quasar, etc.. Then it expanded to astrophysics or mythology (Orion, Titan, etc.) -- now it's just whatever name I can think of ...

I don't really have a theme anymore for naming things. At this point, it's pretty much whatever comes to me. There was one kid on a forum awhile back who had named all his bloods after emotions, so I named two of mine like that -- Thao (calm) and Rage (nasty one), but then I've also got Bowie, Sister Mercy and Sister Charity, (all VPI stripes); for BPs I've got Roswell (mojave), Junko (pinstripe), Juno (spider), Macchiato (butter) ... Norma the normal ... Maybe the "dinker" ...

My fiancee ended up naming my bumblebee -- I told him it was the most expensive snake I'd ever bought, and asked him what to name it -- he said, "Money." So, my bee's name is Zed Money, after a weird kid we knew in high school.

I've got a pretty sizable collection, but I still like to try to name everything if I can ... It actually helps me keep track of them to have names and not just ID numbers (especially for species that I've got a lot of, like bloods and BPs). I always told myself that if I ever got to a point where I couldn't name everything, that was too many snakes ...

A lady was just awarded an Ignobel Prize for her study in which she did a survey and found that cows with names produced more milk than cows with ID numbers. :P

Seriously?! Awesome. My mom was telling me that my smallest normal girl was so much darker than any of my others that I should find a name to fit that in another language. I didn't look very hard, and didn't find anything, and one day I just started calling her Delilah. How cool is that!

I take forever to name my animals. Both my males are named for their patterns, my first snake, Lilly, her name came from a long conversation with a friend, but other than that I usually wait until something pops into my head that fits (like Delilah) My cats were both named by waiting until I found one that "fits"

I take forever to name my pets, too LOL. I like naming my snakes, even though I take forever. I just find it, as stated before, easy to idenify them. I think I want to try to name my snakes after German words, such as naming a female Ball python after the German word for 'beauty', or 'beautiful'. I'm trying to learn German, and I am half German, so I think it would be pretty cool to name them after certain German words with a meaning to them.

My first ball was named Irulan because I like Dune and because I really love that name. The rest are all named after elements. I already had some good elemental names picked out (Iridium, Tungsten), and I figured I'd make that my theme. I can match the snakes' colors and patterns to elements, and I don't have to worry about running out of names until I get over 118 snakes...and that's gonna be a while!!

All of my reptiles are my kids, so I don't feel comfortable giving them numbers. It feels way too impersonal for me. So they'll all get names, even if they're kinda dumb. ;)

My lone BP is named "Booth" after the FBI agent on the Bones TV Series. My son wants to get a female Het Albino and name it "Bones". We figure if the TV writers don't put that couple together then we will!

I like to name them after something that relates to how I got them. One is named after the street where I got her from, another has the same name as the courier service she got delivered by. It usually works out pretty good, and helps me remember when we first met :P
