Re: Best Display Herp?
I voted for GTP and Chameleon, since they always make me go "oooooohhhhh" when I see them. :) As much as I love my BPs, they just don't come out enough to be a good display animal... and even high-end morphs don't often have the WOW factor of a beautiful Chameleon or GTP. I'd love to get one of these animals, once I have more experience with keeping reptiles - since I've heard both are "intermediate-advanced" herps.

Really? I've found emeralds a lot easier to handle...

Re: Best Display Herp?
Great idea for a poll!
I am in indecision... All in all, I say BRBs and BPs are prettiest, but they make terrible displays because they don't stop hiding. I adore arboreal boids, but their needs don't always accommodate a great display cage like a glass, although AP cages have good visibility. Chams make awesome displays, as do geckos. Nothing better than a wrinkly, 16" leachie for a display. :gj: :P Dart frogs, milk frogs, and dumpy TFs are also awesome.
How about tarantulas and scorps? I'd love to get myself a couple of inverts for display sometime. :D

Re: Best Display Herp?
Okay, the question is best display animal. While I certainly agree that GTP are gorgeous animals, watching one is entertaining for about a minute.
When I think of great display animals, a large part of the consideration has to be the environment it is in. Chameleons look great in well planted little rainforest type of setups. A good choice, but they are slow...
Picture this: an enclosure with trees, a beach area, a waterfall and a pond (size of enclosure is 24x16x8 feet). Stretching out over one section of the pond is a large rock, setup as one of a few basking spots. Basking on this rock is a 7 or 8 foot water monitor. Monitors are always active, very intelligent, and curious beyond belief. They are also diurnal.
Monitors are the best display animals. Period.

Re: Best Display Herp?
My vote goes for a frilled dragon. You don't see them much so in my opinion a not so common animal would be best to spark other peoples interests. A Monkey Tailed Skink would be good too.
If you don't have a frill, GTP.

Re: Best Display Herp?
I voted other colubrid, just because they are more active during the day, so with a nice cage and full spectrum lighting, they would make great display animals. Otherwise, my favorite species of all... Chondros!!!

Re: Best Display Herp?
I couldn't vote.
Any aquatic Turtles for "water feature" type displays. Aquatic turtles are active, beautiful and fun to watch.
Rough Greens for "naturalistic" type displays. Of course mixed with other things too. Very active snake that won't eat up cagemates. Great for a combo enclosure with frogs.
Chondros for "industrial/modern" type displays. I saw a bright green chondro in an entirely white enclosure the enclosure was sort of concave so it looked like it had no corners.
......I could go on and on. I think the best animal for displaying depends on the type of display you like.
Depending on the type of display....some commonly labeled 'display' animals may not meet up to their hype.
I like too many to name....because given the proper environment, I think any reptile can be 'best' on display :)
