Re: Employeer wants to take our cell phones away
I did not read the entire 5 pages, because I know from years of experience that 5 pages means lots of asides. :)

But in all honesty... I hate cell phones.

Not a little, but A LOT. I am looking into getting a signal blocker for my house, and yes, I make my guests surrender their phones. If you cannot turn your phone off for two hours, then you really need to go... somewhere else.

If I am out with someone and they answer their phone, I leave. Same if I go to someone's house and they start watching TV. I leave. Part of the tapestry that is me.

My coworker is on his phone constanty and it drives me nuts. I understand that family emergencies happen, but his daughter phoning because she does not know where mom left her newly clean and folded panties... sorry, just does not justify a work call.

I think they break down boundaries that are there for a reason, and if I had a business, I would can anyone that was talking on their phone during work time.

But I may be the last holdout. I do not have a cell phone. Never will. Nor do I EVER run for a ringing phone. If I have a guest over and the landline rings I do not answer it.

    It is rude.

    Addendum:

One of my part time jobs is in retail.

If a person answers their phone while I am waiting on them I walk away and they move to back of the line.

and finally that pep talk? Ever heard of morale? Constantly threatening employees makes them steal, work slower, badmouth the company, call in more, etc etc etc.

Not saying that you can't tell an employee that he can't have his cell phone, but disagreeing with some of your other points.

Worst manager ever? Worst of the worst, a manager at a well known greeting card company that guilted a guy into coming into work the day his wife and kids died in a fire.

A high school kid and an adult have different mind sets. A kid who just graduated high school is still a kid.

You know what an employee who is scared and wants to keep his job does his job my way. If that is harsh or acting like a spoiled child then go work for some one who cares. It got the work done and I only have done that to those that didn't perform.

moral doesn't matter when your running a factory. The ones like me that had to have the job and had work ethic stayed and we were a tight group we never had fights and crap at work because we helped each other and rallied around each other. The peasants unite when there is a cruel dictator.

That is a pretty bad manager...

We had less theft, less call ins, less problems and higher customer satisfaction ratings, a much lower turn over rate......

In my business they have no contact with the customer, I treated my employees well until they screwed up. I have little problems out of my employees. We have very little theft. It does not cost be but about $80 to run some one off.
