A pack a day smoker, but I live (as noted in another thread) where there is no smoking in any public spaces.

So no bars, no restaurants, never smoke in other`s homes, etc., and I am good with that.

I do not even smoke in my own house when there are non-smokers around (OK, may depend on who it is... but mostly), and I would never smoke around kids.

I do not smoke and never have. Of course I have bad asthma and if someone is smoking, even if the smell is just on their cloths I go into a serious asthma attack. I cant hug a smoker.

I know im under age.. I voted no and it bother when other around me do it.. Tons and I mean TOOONNNSSSSS of people at my school smoke.. it's a huge turn off and I make sure anyone I become friends with feels remotely the same way.. It seems the whole smoking vs non smoking has become polarized over the years (and shown to be true by the poll). There only seems to be those against it and those for it and less in the middle..

For about 5 years I smoked 2 packs a day but the last 6 months I've had maybe... 1 a month?

Quitting is hard and I voted it bothers me when other smoke around me because it doesn't take long for me to wanna jump on that person and take their cigarette.

I started smoking at 13 and have not been able to quit yet. Worst thing I ever started! It makes me sick to see teenagers smoking now. I think of how they have no clue what they are doing to themselves. But I know I didn't listen back then and I am sure they won't either :( I am going to try hypnosis- can't hurt at least!
It is something I talk with my 10 yr old daughter about on a regular basis. I pray that in this case she listens to what I say rather than do as I do. I do not expose her to the smoke- no smoking in the house. My vice and I will freeze my butt off outside before I put her through that.

I smoked when Kools were cool. A pack a day for 20 years. Quit 20 years ago. One of the hardest things I ever did. I could never go back to smoking now. I find them very offensive in a dirty smelly kinda way.
A very nasty habit. Kinda weird that its even legal when you think of all the damage they do to your health. I feel no matter how "bad" it may be,
I don't want anyone telling me what I can or cannot put into my body. So to each his own,you want to eat double cheeseburgers and fries, put four sugars in your sixth cup of coffee, smoke two packs a day, then you should be able to.
Better make sure you got good health insurance...you're gonna need it.;)

Those of you that do these things are thinking "This person has never smoked, or doesn't have kids." I've smoked on and off for 11 years. I don't, in fact I'm allergic/asthmatic because of smoke. I have an inhaler and any time I'm around smoke I end up with ear infection and sinus infection. The last time I went to the doc I had ear infection, sinus infection, and bronchitis!!!! Eeeek! That's when I got the inhaler.

I'm allergic to everything. Including roses, so it makes holidays easy for my boyfriend :D

I'm very happy Iowa has laws against smoking in public buildings. I haven't had a sinus infection since!

    Yes Occassionally.

Ham, Sausage, Trout, duck, ribs, Even smoked an eel once.

Smoked a few people in MW2 over the last weekend.

Tried a ciggarette once and didn't see what the big deal was. Still I support smokers rights and I have always loved the smell of ciggarette smoke.

    Re: Do you smoke?
I did smoke, started when I was 18 and quite when I was 26. I had my 5 year old daughter come up to me and say " I wanna smoke like you and mommy when I get older" OMG!!!!!! thats what helped me quite, I'll let that fall on her mom (we are not together)..

As for being around it.. it depends some cigs smell like HELL!!!! the ones my mom smokes are nasty, We dont like goin over there b/c of the smell, plus it gave the misses a blood nose, first one she has EVER had in her life..

to anyone trying to qutie go for it you can do it.. I feel so much better these days, I can smell things better and foods taste better as well, and I have been goin to the gym more often then I had.. Good luck to anyone trying.

    Cheers

I dont smoke in the house or in the cars or around the kids....Their school teaches that cigs are drugs....so they go around saying I do drugs....thats ok with me.....My husband dips and i have been on him about stopping....with the prices of tobacco climbing...It may be time to just say no.

I replied "No, but I don't mind if others smoke around me". However I did smoke for something like 25 years. I now use an electronic cigarette, which isn't smoke at all. I had one real cigarette a week after I started on the electronics and it tasted horrible; haven't wanted one since. Also i can now "smoke" anywhere I want to including my desk at work...Highly recommended.

    never smoked, never will.

I voted the last option, as smoke (of almost any kind) makes me physically ill. I get nauseous or headaches or light headed. More than half of my co-workers smoke so i have to deal with it on an almost daily basis. I don't really appreciate it..

I don't think the government should be regulating what we put in our bodies, ever.

I agree with the sentiment, but not the example.

I disagree with all laws designed to protect people from themselves against their will--for example, seat belts, illegal substances, whatever. If someone wants to go skydiving without a parachute, that's their business.

However, not smoking in a car with a minor present protects the minor--not the smoker. I think children should be protected from others' stupidity. At least up to a point.

No. Humans are fueled by wants, not by needs. Certainly the desire to smoke is a want. It is not a need.
Those who have all of their needs met will still have wants. This is part of the human condition. It is wanting to learn that fuels science, the want of an easier life, technology.

However, not all wants are so productive. Wanting to smoke most certainly is not. Wanting may lead us to some of our greatest achievements, but it can also lead us to the depths of depravity, or to a slow, agonizing death.

I agree with this. Everything you do is the result of what you think is the best for you at any given moment. Usually it takes great effort to do what you need, rather than what you want.

Nope don't smoke, I know so many people who do so I have learned to deal with it though I dont like it at all, on occassion I will have a cigar with a few friends only because I think ti is much different than smoking cigarettes. I feel like it is much more classy and/or sophisticated and is usually done during different outings rather than on a regular basis.

I smoke. I grew up with a family history of Tobacco users, and I did not break the chain. Its not bad, I can easily make a pack last four-five days, and if it doesnt I will not let myself get another until the week is up. This way I feel I am at least controlling my addiction.

I do. My Grandpa died of lung cancer, and never touched a cig his whole life. Another friend of mine quit and two weeks later was killed in a car accident. I believe if it's your time, your going no matter what.

Although, I know a few people with asthma and other breathing problems. So, I don't smoke around people. I would walk miles to make sure my bad habit only effects me. :)

I do want one of the electronic cigarettes. Hopefully I'll have one by christmas time. They are expensive, but cheaper than a load of health bills down the road.

Used to be an avid non-smoker, but other people smoking didnt bother me.

But then I started smoking because... well... smoking and drinking go really well when you're depressed. Now I'm off and on. I just hope this time I can stay off until my next paycheck, by then hopefully I wont run out and buy packs.

    Re: Do you smoke?
I smoked for 18 years, from 16 to 34 years of age, and it took chronic bronchitis and kids with constant ear infections that Dr.s said would only stop when we stopped smoking around them to get me to stop smoking.
We used the patch for 6 weeks and my now ex-wife and I quit together.
18 months later I found I had bladder cancer that had probably been slow growing for numerous years and most probably caused by cigarettes. I went through 9 surgeries and 4 years of continual treatment till It finally went into remission.
Needless to say I enjoy life and all it has to offer more than ever and not another cancer stick will ever touch my lips.

I'm an ex-smoker. I don't mind when people smoke around me if it's somewhere I expect to be smoked around. I don't like it when people stand right next to doors at stores and such- I consider that pretty rude and never did it as a smoker. Mostly because when I'm pregnant the smell of smoke makes me truly ill.

I never have enjoyed the smell of cigarettes, nor will I ever. It's gross, and just one of the worst habits a human being could ever form. But, people start for different reasons, and I respect that. However, I also believe that people should have places to go to smoke in public places, so other non-smokers shouldn't have to come in contact with them or the area they smoke within.

    Re: Do you smoke?
I have been trying to quit for a few years...went as far paying about $300 for one of those electronic cigs, no tar or other chemicals but still a bit of nicotein and a cig to puff on to help with that part of the habit. As of now I am down to about 3 or 4 cigs a day instead a pack and a half. Sometimes I can go a few days without one but it isnt easy.
My wife and I started smoking ONLY out on the patio now and that really helps because you cant smell it when you come into the house, and while trying to quit it makes a big difference when you cant smell it all the time.

The health risks alone should make people want to quit or not start in the first place. Smoking leads to so many problems. It should be illegal but the government makes so much money from it...

My oldest sister started around 15 or 16 and recently quit. She's almost 25 and occasionally has a cigarette, though she definitely wasn't as bad as she was before. When I was little she would smoke outside with a group of friends and I would be out there playing around with the smoke so it really doesn't bother me at all when anyone smokes around me.

My second oldest sister recently start smoking and it's getting worse.

I definitely won't be smoking any cigarettes at all, I don't have the time to become addicted to something other than Ball pythons:D.

    Re: Do you smoke?
I don't smoke and I don't mind if others smoke around me unless we're inside. I have terrible allergies and it agitates it when I'm around smoke in an enclosed area. But in bars and stuff I expect it so I either just walk outside when it really bothers me or go to a non-smoking section if there's one. They banned smoking in restaurants where I live which kind of bothers me. If someone wishes to smoke with their meal, they should be able to. Yes I want a separate section, but they have a right to smoke with their meal if they please.

    Re: Do you smoke?
The problem is, different sections aren't good enough. The harmful chemicals in the smoke will wind up being inhaled by people on the far end of the restaurant, probably unbeknownst to them.

I think if an establishment wants to allow smoking, it should be permitted to do so, but warnings should be posted on the entry doors.

    Re: Do you smoke?
If people want to smoke, they're going to. Most restaurants have filters in their A/C to filter the air. I'd rather have it be inside with filters than walk through a huge cloud of smoke as I walk in the door, or stand outside waiting for a table.

Guys ( and in this case you know who you are )

    I'm starting to get irritated.

If it isn't tobacco you are discussing shut the heck up about it on this thread.

    Zero tolerance means Zero tolerance.

There is a whole danged internet where you can demostrate to people you are an idiot in that particular way. On this site you cannot.

So, if you can't stop posting about that subject, then stop posting altogether.

    Clear enough this time?

This thread will be temporarily closed while I move the relevant posts out.

Thread re-opened - let's try and stay on-topic or at least away from the T.O.S violations ok?. :please:

Honestly would you be relieved if all smoker were using an e-cig instead?

Presuming an e-cig doesn't emit anything nasty, I'd much prefer to be around that than have to breathe somebody's smoke. Basically, as long as someone's habit isn't *inflicted* on me, we're good.

I do not smoke, but both my parents have smoked for over 50 years now, and they're health has definitely been affected by it. My father has had 3 heart attacks and my mom has had 2 anyeurisms, one of which she had taken care of because it was close to rupturing, and another that is being closely monitored. I do not let them smoke in my house, and when my kids are born, they are not even gonna be allowed to bring cigarettes to the house.
