Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
more pictures soon, the second one is out!!!!!!
looks fat and sassy,
question? there is a small red ball of tissue that is on the paper towel next to the snake, is this the umbilicus?
-
Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
after looking at the second baby for a while she seems like her skin is dry? anyone heard of this or know what the root cause is?
-
Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Hi,
Are you keeping the babies enclosures humid till they have absorbed all the yolk etc? You dont want it wet but definately humid.
The first skin is very thin and delicate so if the tub is a little to dry that may be what your seeing.

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Ok... I know I'm being a pest... but how are they???
AND WHERE ARE THOSE PIX??? :D

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Put the babies on soppy paper towels until they have their first shed. They need to stay moist until then.

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
MORE PICS!!! PLEASE:) (hows that for being a pest;)) Seriously though, I am itching to see how these wee ones are doing!!

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Hello
I found this forum looking for information on parthenogenesis
because it has just happened to my snake
and what do you know
I found someone who it has just happened to
in the same city as me
My ball has just layed her eggs today (probably last night)
I didn't even know she was a girl
she hasn't had any contact with another snake in about 10 years
I haven't been able to candle the eggs yet
so I don't know if they are fertile or not
I'm going to let her sit on them untill i know for sure

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Imagine that... two in one season... and in the same city nonetheless. I mean what are the odds?
Seriously, what are the odds?

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
I guess God said "Let there be Ball Pythons!" Because of this newfound belief, I am going to edit my wifes bibles. I hope she doesn't mind...

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Yes.. if they had low moisture in the egg, they will look/be dry when they hatched. I have seen pics of hatchlings that looked nearly dehydrated! Like Becky said above; soppy paper towels in a shoebox Rubbermaid tub will help.

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)

I cant get enough of baby snakes. I cant wait to have some little ones slithering around here. <----sounds kinda funny)

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
sorry for the long interval but I have been really busy with work.
update- the babies just had their first shed, and look great, i think the reason the second baby looked dry was because it stayed in the egg for 3 days and some of the egg goop dried on its skin, (both eggs were very plump prior to hatch). Anyway, I will probably post some pics tonight when I get home.
To the other Knoxvillian, if you have any questions on incubation set up, let me know I could walk you through building one.

Thanks for the offer but I'm going to let her sit on them

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Hello...
I'm the one who had the parthenogenesis happen last year...I must say WOW!! This seems to be happening more and more!! I do believe there was also another person last year who had it happen, also. Unfortunatley, I let mom sit on them with a sad outcome...dead babies. So, to Columb1ne, I would highly suggest incubating them, I did everything and spent more money than I would have making an incubator trying to keep everything just right. So, I'm hoping that it happens again!! I am ready this time! Since she had her eggs in June last year, who knows it may happen this year & could be why she is so restless.
And Zombie...congrats!! They are absolutely beautiful miracles!! Exciting huh??
I am so amazed that this is becoming more common! A sign of the end times perhaps? Just a thought.

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
I am really psyched! the babies ate for the first time today and took the pinkies within minutes of them being offered!!!
Now, how often do I offer them the pinkies and when can I move up to some fuzzies?

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
Is it just me or do these hatchlings have a unique pattern?
-
Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
I don't know too much about the different morphs of the balls, but one is yellow color while one is a more brown/green, and i do think the pattern is strange, any ideas?

Re: immaculate birth (Parthenogenesis)
They should be able to handle hoppers right away. A lot of breeders feed small adult mice to hatchling bps. Pinkie mice are really too small for most bps. Do you have weights of the babies? As a general rule, I usually feed prey items that are about 10% of the weight of the snake. Another method to choose prey size is to choose a rodent that is about the same diameter as the snake at its thickest point.

Is it possible she was paired 2 years ago? Rare but not unheard of for that to happen
