Wow.. these Asfs have NO smell! I have them on pine pellets and since last friday (not yesterday) they've been in there with some wheat straw for nesting. NO smell other than a faint wood-pellet odor if you really sniff. Wow. If I could get enough of these bred, I would gladly switch to them from "normal" rats.

ASF are great! They have almost no smell at all! Anyway i recently picked up a trio loved them so much....that i picked up a group of 3.8

I've noticed that they love these tunnels called Grassy Tunnels

    Pictured here http://www.bunnybasics.net/images/files_200px_61236.jpg

I put the tunnel in the tank.....and also the box........they love both of them......I'll have to get a picture of it one day!

P.s the tunnel also comes with some sort of bedding or string inside of it.....they love tearing it apart and making a nest out of it

    Try'em out!

Ok I can now report on this topic. I have had my 2.3 of ASF's for a few days now. 4 to be exact. I offered mine a box to hide and chex and to help them feel secure. I see them out in the mornings and at night. I haven't noticed any smell or chewing. I have been able to move slow and gentle and pick them up by the tail with no problems what so ever.

Awesome pics! I am glad that these little buggers are becomeing more popular. I am just plain flabbergasted at how little odor they have. And they are so clean. Kinda like taking the non-stinky-urine aspect of rats, and the small-poop aspect of mice, and combining them into a critter that's the perfect size for BPs to eat.
I still have.. 3 girls. No males! I am going to go get a male tomorrow from a different store, and see how it goes either working him into the females' tank, or maybe isolating him with one female at a time to impregnate them.

Be careful when introducing the male....they might be aggressive...and when separated, might not let the female back into the group.

(on a side note, once they get goin' you'll be overrrun, mine are producing more than I can feed..I have like 50 babies and 5 more preggos now...)

I am debating on a few ways to go about this. I would love to keep the four together, but I am afraid of aggression. I was thinking of houseing the females seperately (but argh; I need to get some more housing!) and rotating the male. Another thought was to get 2 more males, house them 1.1 and 1.1 and either feed-off the remaining one or use it in trade for a male at the shop..
I am hoping to get to my friend's shop today if she is open, and see what's there. if it is all females.. argh!
Edit: yay! Called the shop and she's there.. I am off.

Good Job Tyree! Watch those fingers when your playin with the babies...Momma no like!

Jen- I would see if you can get 2 males and 3 more females and set up 2 tanks 1.3....separate the girls (move 2 and a strange female into the 1.3)

When i lifted the box her nest was under today, i thought i saw the devil! Don't worry she can have her space! lol

I'll try and get some pics up later....i just don't want her to eat them or something....so i didn't really bother her!

Poop.. she was out of ASFs. No males or females. I know of a store that I can probably get to tmrw, that sells them.. cross your fingers :)
I will take your advice, Charlie. Sounds like a plan! For now I guess I just have 3 females getting fat "off of the system" and not producing :)

I harem breed in 20 gallon tanks for the most part. Adult males will attack each other if the tank gets overpopulated, but I've never had a problem otherwise. You should easily be able to breed four females and one male in a 20 gallon tank. Remove and feed off the males as the mature, breed the females, and soon you'll be completely overrun with ASFRs.
