Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
Wow Pat, when I saw the video you sent me, I told you she looked like she was stretched out due to something painful in her intestines. I wonder if she had a blockage or something? Any luck with the vet coming back yet?
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
not til after the new year.......i have no idea what to do. and her prolapse isnt getting smaller

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
Pat I'm so sorry to read this. You and your girlfriend must be a mess worrying about your snake. I don't know where you live to even try and search out a vet for you. If I was you, I'd be try contacting a few major boa breeders to see if they've any advise to offer, other than what's been offered here or if they've seen this type of thing before. Also if you have a major zoo near you, phone them. They will have an exotics vet on call and a back up for that vet. Explain the situation and your need to have this snake seen ASAP and hopefully they will cough up a phone number for you.

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
My only suggestion is for after she comes out of the sugar soak. Run out and grab a roll of Viva brand papertowels...the plain white ones. They are cloth soft, do not shred up easily when wet and I'd be putting her on layers of them wetted down to keep that area moist.
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
Man; I am sorry that it is coming to this. I agree with Jo, regarding the moist PTowels. I did this when one of my hatchlings came out with some yolk unabsorbed, and it helped until it was absorbed.
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
Man I'm sorry this is so bad for you. Is there any way she could have swallowed some bedding or something? A blockage is another possibility. I hope and pray it works out for you and her.

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
Pat , have you tried contacting your local MSPCA hospital ?
I'm not sure if you have one but here in boston they have a 24 hour emergency room and they treat all kinds of animals .It sure worth a try contacting them at least you can talk to a vet there, also contact your local zoo, and ask their vet , he may be willing to help when you explain the situation and offer a donation.

Was it just for the prolapse? Did they find out what's been wrong with her?
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
he seems to think thats what was causing the shaking, becuase he said that it was twisted so it was causing discomfort. hopefully, she will pull through.

My girlfriend works for a vet in Camarillo. He does not see exotics, but has some experience, he knew exactly what to do, and did it perfectly, so I dont know if he would see anymore, but he might ;)

She made it through the night, with shining eyes! My girlfriend ( a vet tech for five years) said that she still shakes a little bit when the vent area is touched, but getting better. So, that has to be what was wrong with her right?

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
She is recovering very well, acts like nothing is wrong with her at all. She is totally active too. What an amazing little girl she is........
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
I am so glad she is doing better. How long before she eats again?
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
At the moment, we are seeing how everything heals up a little before we jump into feeding her again. She just ate last week before this happened, so it hasn't been a scary amount of time. We are just crossing our fingers that she doesn't pass stool within the next few days. The main suture that goes across the vent opening will come out within the next week. The other 4 are just making a box around the vent, so those will stay in longer to help the vent from stretching to the point of doing this again. So, everyone just cross their fingers for us that this will go as planned and heal up so we can get this poor girl back to her normal life!! Thank you to all of you for all your help and concern.

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
I am so glad she is doing better. Sending positive thoughts that everything goes the way it should and she recovers fully.
Good Luck...
BTW those stitches look huge in that first pic... lol. Made me cringe.

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
Hmm i think i missed it, did you figure out the cause of the shaking?
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
we are thinking that she had twisted bowels or something like that
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
Oh ok which caused the shaking which then caused the prolapse. I see.
-
Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
I know its been mentioned a million time in this post, but I have a friend whos snake did that exact behavior and within a week I belive or maybe two the poor little guy was dead. I pray thats not the case with your snake maybe she was just dancing lol. But thats always a possibility. Only difference was that his did it almost constantly if yours has only done it once or twice then hopefully shes just a weird one. best of luck to you and you little one. I lost my red tail a few months back but that was from bad husbandry on the part of lllreptile.

Wow, that's awful! I missed the mention of that before. Did your friend know what the cause was? Doesn't sound like the same thing now - if it was just seizures. No need to freak poor Pat out. And throwing out an accusation like that, about LLL, can you substantiate/bolster in a new thread? Or did you already do that on Fauna?
Hang in there, Pat and thatkindofgirl! Our thoughts are with you and your RTB!

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
Pat and Thatkindofgirl,
I have been following this thread for a while I have just never posted.
Those stitches are very intense but I am glad that she is doing great and I hope for a swift recovery.
Awesome job getting the little gal to the vet ! :gj:
NOW just remember you better keep up updated for a while ! :8:

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring (new update included)
Yeah, the sutures definitely look intimidating on her little body, but we decided to go with a larger size to ensure they would hold up while she heals since they will be in for awhile. They seem to be working out perfectly and since they are a disolvable suture material they aren't irritating her like stainless steel would. She seems to be just getting better, we haven't had any set backs. All we can do is wait it out and keep her comfortable as she heals.

We were feeding her live fuzzys (stunned of course), but I think once we decide to get her back to normal feedings we will be starting with pinkies to make sure everything passes normally without any strain. The last thing I want is for her to go through this again.

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
I am glad that your snake is doing better :) I lost an American toad to a prolapse years ago. I am glad that your snake can overcome this.

Re: Red Tail almost Seizuring
