You really really really need to do something about that humidity... 23% is asking for an RI... if your tight on cash... 10$ for a 66qt tub thats pretty much the same dimensions as that 20 gallon... You can either cough up 10$ for a tub... and your humidity will be MUCH better... or you can wait till your snake gets an RI then needs to go to the vet which can cost up to 100$ easily pending the vet... Save the time and the money... pick up a tub... Also Im curious as to how you got 83 ambient temps... 90 on the hot side... but you got a cold spot of 73?

You heat the tub with a heat pad... same way as a tank.

the half log hides are 'ok'

a better option, if you're strapped for cash would be to go to a .99 cent store and buy a cheap plastic bowl, cut a small hole in it (either the top or the side) and voila....

bps like small tight spaces - here are two types that I currently use

a thermostat is a must have when using a mat as heat mats get very hut and could burn snake or as ya sayin if outside melt the plastic

    [QUOTE=Jonny2184;673471]Hot Side - 87F-93F and Cool Side - 75F-80F
Humidity should be - 30% when not in shed and 60% during shed.
You dont want it too wet inside or he will get scale rot and too dry and you will have a horrible shed. QUOTE]

Should the temps and humidity really be like that? Becase the caresheet says something completely different.

Temps should def be no lower than 76-83 cool side... no higher than 88-95ish on the hot side... Humidity should always be above 50%... I keep mine at 60-70 all the time doesnt seem to bother them at all... I do know when you get down too low they get an RI. The cheapest way to get the humidity above 50% is get a tub... If you REALLY want I can tell you how to HELP get it up but its gonna cost you atleast 14$... 4$ more than a tub.

you should aahhhh... take care of the humidty... get a proper set up... feeding right now is the least of your worries... Until you got 78-83 cool 88-95 warm humidity above 50% humidity and most importantly for digestion... belly heat(UTH) hooked up to a thermostat you definetly dont need to be thinking about feeding... If your really tight for money I got a thermostat and CHE... you find the lowest price on the internet for both of em... take off 5$ each price pay for shipping and ill send you what you need.

Ceramic Heat Emitter(I paid 40$ but you can prolly find it cheaper)... its 150W and a repti500 or whatever thermostat. I think your still missing the point... All you need is a tub(10$), 2 hides(.99), UTH hooked up to a thermostat and you should be good... All of that would be cheaper than buyin my stuff.

Honestly, if you go to the main forums page and instead of choosing General BP's, look in BP Husbandry - there is a sticky entitled "glass tank setup". Take like 15 minutes to read what it says in there. Read it twice if you have to. All of your questions will be answered in that post, and the answers will come faster.

Looks like you are a few 'tweaks' from having a working setup, I just think you need to take the time to research some of this on your own.

[QUOTE=JoshJP7;674962]You really really really need to do something about that humidity... 23% is asking for an RI... QUOTE]

I had no idea low huimidity was the cause of Respitory Infection. SHOOT! My BP is hanging out in about 25% himidity right now.
I just moved houses and in my new place humidity is a strong 0%.

I even have an automatic mister hooked up and it sprays once every hour for 15second. and I still only get 25%. At least it's not zero but it's defenetly not at a safe percentage.
I use a glass tank right now...
Any suggestions other then changing to a rubbermaid tub...
I could cover the top of the enclosure but then I couldn't sit my heats lamps on it and then I would have temp problems...
    any suggestions would be good?
I can actually set my mister so it will mist for more then 15seconds per hours. I think I can set it up to one minute or even more. Perhaps I can try that! :weirdface

    Re: Im newb with BP's
Why arnt either of you willing to go to a tub? Im not joking... its like INSTANT humidity fixer. You dont have to fanagle with any BS... Like I said its gonna cost you more money to mess with it to MAYBE get it above 50%...

1.) cover the whole top with plexi glass... If you need to use a heat lamp cut out a circle for the hood... Make it as tight and as close to perfect... The more space the more heat/humidty escapes.

2.) Now you need to get fresh O2 into the tank... Buy a retptile humidifier from petco for 20$... but an air pump... 15$.. follow the directions and your golden.

3.) Can the heat lamps... if you need to use em get a CHE... they dont provide any light and dont eat up the humidity as much. Note if you do need the heat lamp you need to separate thermostats... cant have a light and heat pad hooked up to the same thing....

If your not switchin to tubs bc "tanks look better"... you can see right through a tub and see everything just as good... If you care that much about looks use a tub for a couple yrs and when its full grown build it an enclosure... 2 yrs in a tub.. 18 yrs in a nice enclosure... Your snakes health is #1... not your viewing pleasure... If you can make it work in glass then sweet rock on... I still use a 40gal for my RTB... but if you cant... switch to a tub.
