I also have all my BPs in tubs in a rack. For adults, I use rubbermaid sweater boxes, ID# 4481. For hatchlings, I use rubbermaid shoe boxes, ID# 2217. Pictures of them are on the rubbermaid website.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tanks are great if you only have one or two snakes. (Not together) If you have a bunch then tubs are the way to go. Easier to keep clean easier to keep temps and humidity right. I keep all mine in tubs. Like most others have said my first ball was in a tank then switched to tubs.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
If you have more then half a dozen balls, tubs are really the only way to go. Cleaning, feeding, heating.... is SO much easier. Yeah, I like the looks of a tank better, but it's harder to keep clean and at the proper temps, humidity, etc...

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
i currently own one snake. But plan to own a few more balls. 4 total probably.. Im hoping to have breeding ssetup out of the four i own..
but once I breed I will be building a rack system for my babys :)

And lots of them!!!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I've got my BP, Kobi, and my Suri RTB, Jezi, both in 40 gallon tanks. When I get a house, custom cages will be built for each. Here's the tank pics.

Thank you! They really enjoy their tanks. They are both little explorers, I cannot imagine putting them in tubs....it just wouldn't work.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I took your guys' advice and I half switched to tubs. I got one of my bps in it and my new baby corn... they like it.
I had to because I'm might be getting a Cal. King and a dumeril's.. so YAY!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have a tank and its the best and tubs are lame!
hehe - just kidding!!!! :P
For me, with just a few snakes it doesn't make much sense to put them in anything non-transparent. I derive alot of enjoyment out of peeking in on them during the day. And I think, if done right, a tank can be a great home.
Now clear plastic enclosures interest me....

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Is there a place where I can check out pictures of your tubs? Where can I find prices for these? I love building things but I must admit they tend to all come out looking like "birdhouses" or "ashtrays" from a high school shop class. I only have one BP right now but they are addictive! My wallet fears there are more on the way, and I'm interested in these tubs...

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
The tub setups I've seen are all fundmentally a set of dresser drawers. I can see the efficiency angle, but for a person that has one or two snakes it just doesn't seem that great.
When you use tubs do you just have to take them out anytime you want to see them? I love peeking in even to just see a part of my BP's body in his hide. That's when I say "I see you Snakey.... I see you hiding in there....".

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
You can see into the tubs just fine... I have clear plastic ones and blue tinted one... both you can see right through and they can see you too... I got pics of my set ups in my gallery... should be a little bit of everything there for you to check out. PM me if you want any more info on tubs vs tanks

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have a rack but also a few plastic cages (a choice not offered here) . I put my glass tanks in storage.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I currently have my ball python in a tank but I plan to build a home made enclosure for him shortly.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I only have one BP and it's living in a 20 gallon tank. I don't have much trouble with keeping proper husbandry, although I do wet the plants every 1-2 days to keep up the humidity. It's located in my bedroom, on my desk behind my laptop, so my BP gets its privacy while seeing me often enough to be totally used to my presence. :)
I really only intend to keep just the one so I feel like a tank serves my purposes pretty well. I am weird and I enjoy cleaning so that's not a problem for me. If/when my BP outgrows the tank, I might switch over to a tub. That won't be for a few years, though.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I will get one soon and I have a tank.
Maybe when it grows I'll get a tub.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I preffer the a natural setting for my animals so I have them in tanks with greens and everything . In addition the tanks add aestheticly to the l decor of my home and are somewhat of an attraction to my guests. I can't imagine having them in plastic totes and on newspaper like a lot of people do, simply for ease of maintenance. If you are a breder then yes racks and totes but if you really want to enjoy your snake you must be able to observe it in it's natural environment . Eventually as the snakes outgrow the tanks I'll built custom cages for each and every snake.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I started out with tanks. By the second snake I switched to tubs. No more husbandry issues. It was great. Had a few escapes until I perfected it though.
All the bps are in tubs, but my colubrids are in tanks/vivs.
Tubs/rack bps in the bedroom. And the colubrids in my office/living room. I find the colubrids to be a bit hardier and are more able to deal with the noise, people, etc. Whereas, I tend to baby my bps. I don`t let alot of people handle them, so having them in the rack is kinda nice. Out of sight out of mind. Most people wouldn`t know they were there unless I told them.

Zeke is in a tank and doing very well!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
My snakes are in tanks but as soon as I build a rack I am putting them in tubs.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tanks are a little more work to set up but if you know what you are doing it's not that hard to make it a perfectly wonderful home and once done they work beautifully - most of the collection are in racks but I do have some in cages and some in tanks. Theres not a choice for all of the above. :rolleye2:

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
i have mine in a tank and let me say, i will be switching to tubs soon. i have gray hairs now thanks to the humidity and temp issues in the tank.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I prefer tanks because I like to watch my BPs while sitting on the sofa in the evening... and a nice tank simply looks better in my living room ;) And fortunately I have no issues with the temperature or humidity.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Hi Markus,
I just wanted to ask how you stop your snake from reaching the light in the top corner and possibly getting burnt?
My male did this before I got him and has some horrible scars all down his body.:(

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
After fighting a tank with my bro-in-law's BP, I decided to try a tub when I got my snake, and I'm SOOOOOOO glad I did. I've only had him a few days, but it's been easier already.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have neither. Mine is in a 36" Neodesha enclosure. Best thing I've kept him in yet.

The bulb is protected, you cannot see it in the picture... so no danger of getting burned.

Hi,
Cool - thanks for answering that for me.:)

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Just bc the bulb is covered doesnt mean he cant get burned... Im sure the metal casing around the bulb is very hot as well... Chances of the snake getting up there are slim but it could happen. Might want to think about putting some wiring around the whole fixture to keep him off everything.

It's not, I can touch it without any problems, and I am pretty sensible to heat! :)

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have tanks all over my house right now, but have plans to build some stackable cages so I can still view and show off my snakes and have the organization of a rack
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
No problems with my tank so to speak but who knows what the future holds!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Both! hahahah :D
I've got eight in tubs in two racks, three in tubs w/heat on shelving, and two in tanks.....when I got the four adoptees, I got the tubs they came in, but no UTHs. I had to get creative on the homing and arranging so they'd all have the right kind of heat and a hotspot.:weirdface

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
BOTH. My Kenyan, 2 balls, one corn and the LTR are in tanks. Petey, the RTB is in an acrylic 65g hexagonal in the study, b/c it wouldn't fit thru the door. He doesn't mind what little traffic there is, it's at 81/94 at all times and he's a gobbling machine. :D
I have a Snake Shack (rack) and bought a homemade rack that has some of the snakes, and the rest are in tubs sitting on a set of plastic shelves. My picky eaters (Freddie, George, Houdini), the male balls are all in tubs with hides, in the temp controlled room, with hot spots, and still haven't eaten. Humidity's still 55% with a boost at shedding, but Freddie was picky that way last winter, too. As for George and Houdini not eating, this is the first winter I've owned them, so I'm tweaking the husbandry to see if that will help.
I'm HOPING to use my tax refund to get some cages and put out in the den, and move all the RTBs out. That will give them all much more room, and will free up the tubs. (Moooore snakes! Yippeeee!!) :D :D :D  :pinkele:

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have only one BP and she lives in a tank. As I posted in a previous thread, I've not had any temp or humidity issues for a variety of reasons.
However, I'm one of those people who loves to build things, and I do see myself getting 1-2 more snakes in the future. So I plan on building a wooden frame that will house 3-4 40 gal tanks in a stack. I have already started working on plans for this, even though I currently live in an ity-bitty apartment and will not have the space for such a project for a long time. I feel that this will be the convenience of a rack system combined with the beauty of a tank, all the while providing security and happiness for the ones that really matter - the animals.
Honestly, I think that as long as the snake is happy and comfortable, the tank/tub issue is a personal one. If you've got bunches of snakes, tubs are easily the winner but if you've just got the one, then I can't really see the "added effort" of a tank being all that big of a deal. Just my two cents!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I started out with tanks and quickly became fed up with the constant maintenance. My house is dry during the winter and it was a nightmare keeping the humidity up. now that I have a tub system, which is much more cost effective and easy, I am much happier. I also think my snakes feel more secure. If you are thinking about switching to tubs, my advice is to shell out the money and get a helix or herstat, some heat tape and you will not regret it.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Those of you with tubs but no racks. How do you keep your snakes from getting out. Do you use straps? I'm sure that my ball could pop the top on those plastic tubs.
If you have more than one tub...do you put the tub right on the heat tape? Then stack another on top, more heat tape, then tub, etc?
I understand the rack system (I'm getting one this summer) with tubs just not tubs without the rack...

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
On my tubs, and they're for corn snakes mind you, I use two mini bungee cords stretched from back to front spaced evenly with the end latches. When the hooks are placed properly (i.e. under the lip of the lid and the edge of the tub), there is NO lifting that lid. :) I'll try to get some pix soon.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I'm a tub man as well. Just works out better having to house multi snakes. Tanks just seem to dry the animals out too bad unless you really stay on them. :)

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Yep. All my corn tubs have a UTH taped under one side with aluminum tape. The larger tubs (@26"x15"x10") have 10-20 gallon sized pads and the smaller tub has a 1-5 gallon size. All are controlled by t-stat of course. :) Glad you like the idea...it was a stroke of brilliance while shopping at Lowes. :D
