Slitting eggs is not a bad thing.. you just have to be extremely careful not to hit the baby inside. I slit mine b/c I have horrible visions of a snake not being able to get out..

Also, I've heard about the het pied marker...but I don't know what it is. Can you see it in the pic of momma? I know it doesn't always mean that it's a het pied, but I'm curious as to what the maker is.

There's quite a bit of controversy over how reliable the het pied marker is. Even those who swear by it will agree that it is not a 100% indicator because some true hets don't have it and there are definately normals who have the marker as well... --- Essentially it is striping along both sides of the belly, particularly toward the tail. Both of my hets in the pics above have them, but it is harder to identify in pastels because the pastel turns most of the belly white...


The normal pied is out of the egg as of this morning. the pastel pied is still thinking about it... I hate to do this, but I'll probably wait till they shed to post pics...
