Emily I am sorry to hear the news, but also glad its something that is treatable. I wish the snake a speedy recovery. I am also curious to see how fast she gains weight after she is all through with her treatment.

As far as contacting Ed goes or posting on the BOI I think you are very correct about what he will do. I have seen some of the things he has said and done recently. Although I don't know him personally, his actions have spoken very loud. I just hope no one else has to go through this too.

Keep us updated on her progress.

I'm now real curious to know if my snakes are the right sexes... Ive seen examples of how to pop(step by step picture instructions on the web) but have never seen it done. My vet will not probe small snakes bc he has gotten complaints before in the past that he "hurt someones snake"... Theres a thread going under "general BP's" on popping... I dont want to Hijack this thread so can anyone post some insight over there? Thanks all

Josh, I would definitely take fecal samples from these two to be tested. This is not the first time Ed has had issues with sending out snakes infested with parasites (the last one discussed here was with mites where he admitted he didn't quarantine - but claimed it was the only time he didn't quarantine). Thankfully, I've never purchased from Ed and don't ever plan to, but if I did, I'd be getting my animals tested just to ease my mind.

I'm sorry to hear that Emily. I wish you the best as you get her healthy again, and I hope the rest of your animals remain parasite free. *fingers crossed*

Bwahahahahaha!!! Brilliant thoughts, Jeff and Robin!!

Emily....this just sucks so badly! I'm saddened and dismayed about all of this. No one deserves to make that sort of discovery, but you least of all!

I really do think you should make a post on the BOI. If for no other reason than to warn his other customers because only a fraction of them frequent this site and may read this thread. But, I entirely understand your reluctance to do so, because he will almost certainly try to twist it around into some sort of BP.net vendetta against him. That being said...there are some serious "big guns" over there who will not let him get very far with those sorts of games at all.

It's entirely up to you though, hon. I've only ever posted one good-guy report over on BOI, even though I follow it fairly closely to keep up with who is doing what. But if I need to, I'll go to bat for you over there.

Emily I am so sorry for having to go through this. I purchased one animal from Ed and although she has grown great and seems fine I will be definately doing a fecal next time she has one.

I never said anything before but the pastel looked WAY brighter on the photos he showed then the pastel looked when she arrived. I thought maybe he just showed me a REALLY good pic but after all of the fallout, mite thing and now this, I question his integrity.

Thank you for sharing so anyone else (and I know there are several) of his past customers can check their animals. Thankfully for me it was not an expensive purchase and so far everything seems OK.

With that in mind a BOI post may help others who may have a potential problem.

Best of luck, may it pass quickly :)

That is nasty. I have one that I got from Ed awhile back and I always got fecels done on new snakes; he was clean.. but I do not plan on purchasing from Ed if this is the case.. I consider myself lucky..
I would let him know, though. If for no other reason than, not letting him know, and talking about it to others, just would seem kind of odd to me.. I guess I am just paranoid about covering my own butt in situations where someone did something wrong to me.. later on he could go back and say "oh, you never told me about it when it happened.." Ya know? I feel bad for you and your snake definately.. I would have a conniption if I saw that!!

i would definitely send him an email but don't expect him to respond... after all that IS classic ed... lacking a response to a post/email/confrontation. he's the master of making up a claim (where he is the victim) and then crawling on his belly into a dark corner and watching the fall out.

i do believe the term to describe him is "slug" http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...ddess/slug.jpg

i'm so sorry to hear about this em, but i would definitely at least give a heads up to all those other customers who may have infected snakes! think of the snakes... not ed :please:

i have contacted ed letting him know about the situation. if he does not address the problem i will make a post on the boi so that any others with snakes from him will be aware and can get fecals done.

Emily, I'm really sorry to hear about the results of the vet exam. How frequently must you treat your little girl and what is the prognosis? I'm sending lots of healthy vibes your way.

she was prescribed 1ml per kg of panacur, once yesterday and once more in one week. she also gets 1ml per kg of albon every day for 7 days. prognosis is good, but once treatment is complete we will have another fecal done to make sure the parasites have been eliminated.

the panacur went down fairly easily but the albon is sticky stuff and since it was second of the meds she knew what i was doing and was not pleased! poor girl kept yawning and smacking her lips afterward--i'm sure her mouth felt sticky and probably didn't taste too good either.

i will be getting fecals from the other 2 females that came with her on sunday and taking them for testing on monday. i was going to treat all 3 right away, but i decided to get fecals done for all first. i will also be getting fecals for the rest of the collection as i can get them (which shouldn't take too long as i can usually get a sample by popping or massaging it out of them).

thanks to all for the good wishes! :)

he said that he doesn't remember whether those girls were ch or cb but that he is looking into it.

he told me when i got them that they were cbb, produced by him the previous year so i responded letting him know that.

ha, i don't really mind. i've been practicing popping snakes of all ages recently so i've gotten a lot of mess on me. :P besides, i can handle getting pooped and peed on for the assurance that the rest of the collection is clean. :)

Emily, sorry to hear that you had to bring this into your collection. I guess the good thing about having the tapeworm was that you may not have known that your snake had coccidia without the worm expelling itself because of it. I guess this is why one of my vets recommends as long as one year of quarantine on new animals... crazy stuff. Anyway hoping for a speedy recovery for your baby, and hoping no one else runs into this problem with their animals that they aquired from the same source.

Sorry to hear about your collection, I hope all of the others are fine.

I was still on the fence about Ed after the whole mite thing. I didn't agree with decisions he had made but although he wasn't my first choice to buy from I didn't have him on my 100% keep away list.....then I hear something like this...**shakes head and looks for a pen and his list**

Yes they are two different parasites. :D

Re: WHAT is this horrid mess?!?
the tapeworm is the parasite that was expelled. the coccidia is a completely different parasite and it not visible in the feces although it is contained in an infected reptiles waste. it is spread through contact with the feces of an animal that is harboring it.

Because Ed is banned from this site (for things that happened some time ago and have absolutely nothing to do with the events in this thread)...he can not respond to any accusations or inquiries made in this thread. Now that Emily has had a chance to post up the issue on BOI, anyone wishing to discuss the matter can do so there...so that Ed may respond as he sees fit.
