Ok, I've been having some fun reading this thread... but one thing is certain:
I am NOT one of the woman being referred to.

If you wanna see for yourself, I posted some 'timelined' pics of myself in the "Let's get this going again" (or something like that) thread.

I think "good looking" is a bit too society dictated. If a woman is not of a certain weight with a certain percentage of cleavage and just the right amount of make up, then she's not "good looking".
Of course, the same society taught rule goes for men too. If he doesn't have bludging muscles and a 6 (or 8) pack set of abs and would never make the cover of GQ magazine then he's not "good looking". :rolleyes:

Now there are some who know what "true" beauty is and realize that it does *not* reside in make up or curvature stats.

Granted, I am a hetrosexual female, however, I must say that Aleesha and Argentra are two of the most beautiful women I've ever "met". Do they have a 38,28, 38 curve count? Probably not but honestly, is it T&A that really makes a person "beautiful"?

The same for men. I've seen some absolutely drop dead gorgeous men on this site who, if I was not already married to my own drop dead gorgeous man, I'd be dreaming about at night. Are they "GQ" guys, some are, most are not.

I can be the most asthetically appealing female in the world and you can be the most asthetically appealing man in the world, but if our personalities, attitudes and outlooks on life stink, then we both are just a couple ugly ole' muts without a prayer. :)

P.S. That's *not* to say that the men and women on this forum who do happen to fit the society taught curve rule are not beautiful.... Sara, Gin, Fishmommy, Darkangel, Ben, ummmm... and I can't remember the names of the others, are also absolutely, drop dead goregous because their beauty does not just reside at skin level.

As my mother would say, " good looks are only skin deep, Beauty is in the soul and lives forever. Or "Pretty is as pretty does!"

Whenever I was up to no good.
She used to tell me "Pretty is as pretty does and your not looking to pretty at this moment".
I know, that saying is as old as the hills but it still holds a lot of truth.:)

Shadowspider... that was the sweetest thing... thank you. I guess my belief that I am anything but pretty comes from my high school days when people openly taunted me and called me ugly... things like that are kinda hard to let drop.

I WISH my measurements were that small. Although they are that proportional. I have an hourglass figure that measures in decades. :)
But, FYI, when last I measured (which wasn't too long ago since I'm a seamstress) 48, 38, 48.

I know what ridicule and taunting are like. :( Heck, even now I get it. If not because I'm albino, then because I'm a string bean in dier need of gaining at least 20 pounds.
I wish my measurements were as *large* as the ones I put in my other post. :D

People often only think of "too much" as a bad, or ugly thing because I guess it's more vocalized (everyone is "dieting" and that's the "thing" advertised these days). But no one seems to think/talk about those of us who are accused of being annorexic... even when we're not.

Yes, self esteem is a very fragile thing that is not easy to re-aquire once it's been damaged. I still struggle with it. I don't wear make up or plaster my hair anymore like I use to, but that is only because my husband honestly does not like make up and hairspray and has told me so in no uncertain terms on many occasions when I opted to "doll" myself up. :O

I hear ya! I was 6 foot 1, 145lbs goin into college. That's on the optimistic, just eaten and chugged a bunch of water just prior to stepping on the scale 145, and thats on a heavy workout/weight gaining diet and excercise... If I slacked at all, I was afraid the wind was going to blow me away. It didn't help that my best friends that played lacrosse/waterpolo/wrestling with me were jacked. Got passed over by gals on many occasions because I was the skinny guy in the group even though I outscored almost all of them in lacrosse. I am slowly but surely gaining weight now, but still on the skinny side.

Get a desk Job Goose it is starting to kill me now...im being told its that time to hit the gym :(

Heh, yeah... I know the teasing isn't restricted to us big people, but at times it seems we get the more cruel treatment.

As for the really skinny thing...any of you seen the pics I included of me and my BF?? He has that exact problem: 5' 11 1/2" and 148lbs. We sometimes joke that he would take some of my bulk if he could...

I'm 6'1" also. Fresh out of high school, I weighed all of 125 lbs. "String bean" was something I heard quite frequently, also "bird". Many people only knew me as "bird". Now, I have a really nice 6 pack. Unfortunately, I drank 'em, and they just kind of hang there above the beltline. ;) The good thing is, a year or so ago, it was a 12 pack. I weighed about 260, and have lost down to 187 as of yesterday.

I've never been much of a "chick magnet", but recently a young lady I work with has been giving me some attention. Even though I consider her to be very much off limits (she's 2 years younger than my son!!!), its a good feeling to know that someone finds you attractive!

edit - By the way, I agree completely that there are a LOT of absolutely beautiful wemon (I'm an Okie too!) on this site, inside and out!

honestly, i've never personally met anyone... man or woman who didn't feel they were 'flawed'. they either think they are too fat, too thin, too hippy, not hippy enough, their hair was too thin, too thick, too straight, too curly...

i don't know why people don't just love themselves for who they are in this moment and embrace their inner and outer beauty... celebrate themselves a little bit... and pamper the crap outta themselves at least once a month!

Very true. If someone else thinks you're too ____, then they probably arn't worth your time/effort anyways. Easier to say than to live by (darn you lust :sabduel: ) but it's true! Someone probably should have told that to that Bobbitt lady, the one who had all that plastic surgery done to impress her husband but when he still showed her no interest she "surgically" removed his... yea.

You are too sweet, my dear, but that picture is about 10 years old and that was an SCA outfit designed to make me look that way :D I was referring to how I look now... with less good curves and more padding...

And my BF/partner is the same way as far as not liking the 'toothpicks with bumps'. (BTW, he really likes that description).

When people see me, meet me, get to talk to me, they're always so surprised when I say I have seven snakes. And several salamanders and lizards and invertebrates and other unusual pets... What, a pretty girl isn't allowed to like snakes and bugs? When did I miss that memo? Then I mention I'm going to school studying applied zoology, and they ask if I want to be a vet or work at a zoo. No, that would be way too normal, I want a phd in entomology or herpetology. My dream is to go trecking through jungles, finding new insects, and having a national geographic crew tag along and get an article in there, or write one myself :cool:

Luckily my boyfriend is perfectly fine with my creepy crawlie obsession, he's not *quite* as into it, but he watches one of my snakes during the school year and listens to me thoroughly fascinated. Love love love him for not thinking it's boring (can't quite say the same about his computer passion but I try).

I try not to let pics of me around the internet anymore though, because I've had stalkers. It was NOT fun.

Lazy summer indeed! Usualyl I shuffle off to work in minimal makup, yesterday's jeans and dirty sneakers. It is cool once you're in a relationship and don't have to worry about impressing anyone; but at this point, even if I were single, little would change. :)
