I had been going an hour between rechecks.

I figured out: the bottom of an UTH gets hotter than the top. Figure that one out.

I peeled back the UTH and put the probe between it and the glass... now with the t-stat set at 95 I an getting perfect temps at the substrate surface! Go figure, should have done it as suggested all along! :D

After letting the tank settle in all day, the t-stat and the inside thermo read the same... 95 (what I had the t-stat set on). I am bumping it down to 92 now and I bet after a settle-in period it will be right on the money. Now I have a big bag of extra reptibark for when I clean his cage next! :D

Welcome. I'm new as well, but I know enough to recognize a beautiful snake--nice work.

I hope he doesn't continue to eat the mice backwards, he had me worried there for a bit. He got it down ok though.

Zoo med UTH?? Well that would explain the 10 degree difference I've been having between my Johnson stat and the inside of hide temp. Wow. I tried peeling the UTH but it didn't want to budge without bending. Decided that it's better off taped under the mat. I guess the most important readings are the ones inside the tank, so I won't worry about it anymore. :)
    Thanks for finding that out.

    Got my new scale in.

    http://www.wax32.com/python/slides/080907_0000.jpg

After his initial shed while he was still at Tim's place he weighed 75 grams. Now he is 102g 7 weeks later. From what I understand he skipped two weeks eating because Tim was going to initially ship him to a couple of other buyers that backed out of the sale. Two times!

So, after a couple of weeks here is how things stand. Temps: no problems got a nice gradient going. Humidity... lowish. I don't know what else to do to KEEP my humidity up. I have most of the lid sealed (see pic below) and have his water bowl over the UTH.

    http://www.wax32.com/gear/pythonlid.jpg

If I spray his enclosure I can get the humidity up, no problem but a couple of hours later it is back down below 50%. It usually bottoms out at about 35%.

Any tips? I am thinking next step will be to put a small rubbermaid inside stuffed with damp sphagnum moss. Should keeping the humidity up be such a daily chore?

My poison dart frogs don't have this problem, but their tanks aren't heated either.

I've got my lid foiled and taped up. And I've got some terrarium moss in specific locations that I spray when I mist. Holds the humidity great.

Lamp + UTH and 20 glass long and I get stable temps and humidity.

Thanks Gundy. I got some moss I can wet down right now... we'll see how it goes.
