This stuff is great!!! Day 6 with my mouse colony. I have about 2 inches of Woody Pellets. I have been spot cleaning where they go the most. You can tell because the pellets turn to dust. I have no smell whatsover!!!! I am so happy!!! I have 5 bags now, should last me a while.

How long do the 50 lb bags last compared to an 8^ft bag of expanded aspen? I am paying $15 per bag for 4^ft compresses (8^ft expanded) and would like to give this stuff a try.

Hi there, sorry can't help you with how much it makes question, but here is my experience. Mind you, I have a very small mice colony. Mom, dad and 19 babies now and more to come anytime soon. I have 3 tanks. I bought 5 bags (30 pounds each) of Woody Pellets. used about 1/3 of a bag to cover about 1 and 1/2 inch of all 3 10 gallon aquariums. It is now day 7 and absolutely no smell. I do spot clean every day. You can tell where they because the woody pellets turn to dust!!!!

All in all, great product!!! I wish it was easier to buy and more places carried it.

Just changed bedding last night, so 15 days since the last change (had to postpone it one day, normally change on Mondays). There was still little to no ammonia smell, but the smell of feces was getting pretty bad (though still not as offensive as a normal 1 week change before). The pellets had all broken down in the tubs that had a fair amount of 2-4 week olds in them, but the bedding was still very dry. I even had a leaky valve that probably dripped about a gallon of water into one tub, and the pellets soaked it up and kept in under the top layer of loose bedding. Many of the tubs still had intact pellets as well. I'm looking forward to another week off next Monday :carrot:.

    Evan,

How thin of a layer of the Woody Pet did you use?

Just enough to cover the bottom of the tubs, then added about 1.5-2" of loose shredded paper bedding on top.

After reading this thread I have a quick question. I have'nt breed mice or rats since 1994. The rodents seem to use the front corners of there tubs in a rack system. I use to buy dust free kitty litter and place this in the front corner and they would urinate there and this would take away the ammonia smell has anyone else tired this?

Here is a another product from woody that might help. It is used for Mice and Rats.

Woody Pet Horse Stall Deodorizer consists of 100% Natural Volcanic Zeolite which is a mineral consisting of silica and alumina. Natural Zeolite has a unique interconnecting lattice structure. This lattice structure is arranged to form a honeycomb framework of consistent diameter interconnecting channels and pores. Negatively charged alumina and neutrally charged silica tetrahedra building blocks are stacked to produce the open three dimensional honeycomb framework. Zeolite actually attracts odors & gases and trap them in its crystalline structure. Natural Zeolite is formed from the altered volcanic ash. Zeolite has the ability to absorb and release water, and gas molecules (odors) without any chemical or physical change in the Zeolite itself. The material can encompass and control many times its weight in odors and moisture. Mildew is an organism that thrives in areas of excess moisture, and leaves a stale undesirable odor. Woody Pet Horse Stall Deodorizer removes the moisture, and the odor!

The pelleted aspen product I have been using actually does have zeolite in it. I can't say that it controls odor better than non-zeolite pellets, as this is all I have used, but I could smell little to no ammonia at the last change.
