Ohhh I see she has you trained already LOL. If you and your daughter want a fun way to spoil her with homemade treats here's a great website with some recipes....even some frozen doggie treats!

Re: we got a new pet!
she is doing GREAT. she sleeps in my bed at night and goes all night long without going out to pee. so i am getting heaps of sleep.

she's potty training (if that's the correct term) really well too. she has some accidents in the house, but all in all, she's doing so well taking herself out when she has to go!

we aren't using the crate unless we have to go out - without her. she doesn't get upset when we put her in... we toss in a treat(s) and a few toys and i think she's fine. LOL i'm not there so it's hard to know.

when we get home... she's whining, but more excited to see us i think.

she had a bad reaction to her first shots... so the vet is using something different next time. her next vet appt is on the 11th of july.

she's learned to sit, come (most of the time), go pee on command, no biting... she's doing way better on our walks. at first we had to pretty much drag her the entire walk as she didn't want to go. now she's hard to get going (she wants to stay at home) but once you get her going she's great.

she's doing great meeting and greeting new dogs. i'm careful who she gets to say hi to. i ask the owner if they have all their shots first and keep her away from any feces... so we can't go to the dog field with her yet.

all in all... she's an absolute dream of a pup. she truly is. i've never had such a wonderful friend in critter form. i'm totally in love!

That's great.. I'm glad she's doing well for you.

On the subject of vaccines.. you may want to google 'vaccinosis'. Lots of pets react badly to vaccines.. and many vets are starting to believe we may vaccinate too much/too often. It's something to consider anyway.

    another quick update:

annabella is doing amazing. she's loving her walks everyday and finding her favourite places to poo which by the way is NEVER near a garbage can so i have to carry her little 'gift' all the way home. *yuck*

she's discovered treats from a doggie bakery and has decided she's in heaven.

she is loving her crate... and isn't even whining when i return home anymore. i'm so pleased.

    can't believe i have a dog!!!

I have no idea how I missed this thread back in the beginning! Congrats on your new addition, Aleesha!! She is quite possibly the CUTEST puppy I've seen. I'm all in favor of big dogs, too--so I'm glad you didn't get a teacup poodle ;)

I'm so glad she's settling into family life nicely!! We'll need more pictures soon, of course!

    thanks kim

i started her back on steroids today... which i didn't want to do but her itching has gotten so much worse. she had her second shot on monday and as the week progressed (in hindsight) i can see how she began scratching more and more :(

oh well, she should be itch free by tomorrow. (((poor itchy puppy)))

What does she have?? Allergies? If so, Benadryl works great and you can use it everyday. I wouldn't be putting a puppy on steroids, I would be finding the cause of the itching.

What kind of food is she on? Food allergies are very common.

she's allergic to her vaccine. the vet gave her a different type of vaccine this time around to try and stop the reaction but unfortunately she had the reaction again.

i'm not sure what he'll do since she has one more vaccine time left. ???

Re: we got a new pet!
Give her Benadryl 30 minutes ahead of time, 1mg/lb(so if she's 25lbs she gets 25mg, etc etc), and then she can get her vaccines. The Benadryl is a much safer option than the steroids. She's much too young and those could possibly mess up her growth.

Re: we got a new pet!
and her ears... they are freakin' huge LOL she's soooo adorable. what a lovey girl she is. we should hear this week if she's getting a sister.

did i share this with you all? i was at the vet's office getting her last vaccination and he told me that he had another dog in the back as sweet as annabella. same size... with some australian shepard in her. so she looks exactly like my annabella only white and grey with the bluest eyes i've ever seen.

anyway, the owner brought her in with a shattered elbow. she was kicked by someone and he said he had too many legal fees and wanted her put down. poor baby...

well my vet told him to forget it, he'd fix her up and find her a home... at this point in the story i said, "i'll take her" as i wiped the tears from my eyes.

he said that he's thinking of keeping her himself but if he decides not to, i can have her. she needed her leg amputated as the corrective surgery didn't work... so her leg (front left) was taken off on thursday. we should hear this week if she's coming to live here or staying with him. either way she'll have a great home.

when we saw her (my daughter and i) we knew instantly her name is jasmine (i guess the name the guy had for her was inappropriate and the vet wouldn't tell me what it was with my daughter in the room)...

so we may be adding another little angel to our hear. ;)

That is horrible, that someone could do that to a poor puppy and affect its life forever. I am glad that you can take in the poor thing.
I have seen several three-legged dogs before, and all of them were rambunctious and acted as if they never knew something was missing. :)

Aleesha you shouldn't let that poor puppy exhaust herself playing Xbox! LOL She's really growing! So sorry to read about that other pup, some humans are just the worst things in the world.

My brother raised a three legged pup and he lived 15 wonderful, very active, very productive years. Casey (nicknamed Tri-pod) lost one of his front legs to radial nerve damage after being struck by a car as a pup. One of the kids opened the door and the pup escaped and was hit by a passing vehicle (rotten person didn't even stop!) Anyways, Casey not only lived a lovely pet life but was a top hunting hound in his day so apparently three legs was no problem for him. Heck that hound could keep up with my labrador out in the fields any day of the life!

Re: we got a new pet!
we had a three legged dalmation we rescued once... and he had no problems at all. so i'm not worried for her... i just want her to have a good life and know she will with my vet... so even if i don't get to bring her home... i'm glad she's stepped up big time in this life and gets to be around wonderful humans!!!
