    Jo...

Top notch good job! I think your layout and how you used different snakes to illustrate different aspects of different species was well thought out. Your a top rated Herp educator in my book A+

Thanks everyone! I think Mike and I worked well together on this presentation and tried to use the snakes to go beyond just "here's a cool snake". We wanted the kids to get a bit more than that from it and we hope they did get some messages about tolerance, respect, color being only skin deep, something "different" doesn't mean scary and how helping someone (or something) different than yourself is a good thing to do. I've watched the snakes teaching our own children many life lessons so it was really just an extension of our home experience to share it with them in this small way. :)

Oh and I forgot to mention, our 6 year old got many "cool points" or whatever the current wording for that is for living with snakes, having his own snake and handling the snakes so easily in front of his class. You could just see him beaming with pride (but trying to act very laid back about the whole deal of course LOL). When we walked in he immediately jumped up and blocked the rush of kids, hollering "don't run at the snakes, back off, sit down!". It was hilarious!

Have to share the funniest moment of the first presentation to kindergarten/grade 1. One little girl asks how are baby snakes born so I'm about to launch into the egg versus live birth thing when a little grade 1 boy pipes up...and says....

"first the woman snake meets the man snake and then...."

I interrupted, thanked him profusely and said my bit about eggs and live births. No way was I getting into sexual reproduction facts with a bunch of kids that may or may not have had a "talk" about the birds and bees with mommy and daddy yet. LOL I can just see little person coming home and asking dad where in heck his hemipenes are!!! :O

That's awesome Jo. I wish we could have done one this year as well. We will next year for sure. I am always amazed at well behaved snakes are when they go do a presentation. It's almost like they know they have to be good. Sounds like you had a good time, and a lot of people got a good lesson on snakes in the home and the wild.

I know Christie LOL. I really hushed that cute kid up fast before the talk went wayyyyyyyy out of hand about how baby snakes come into this world! Thanks Tim, we really enjoyed it. I checked with the Principal today and she said the feedback was great and we'll be invited back after the summer break. :)

today, we took ours to get probed by a guy who happened to be a high school science teacher with a room full of animals. there were a few students in the room. they're all used to handling his animals so it was no biggie that there were different snakes in the room today. but when mike (teacher) was probing, and the kids started asking questions... freshmen.... i expected a lot of snickering, etc. but mike explained about how "they have two penises, and when they become erect.... etc" the kids were very interested and not disrespectful at all. i was very impressed.
