Even though it was based on the graphic novel series, it has more historical merit than most "historical features". My girlfriend is going to be a history professor and is currently a history major specializing in ancient civilizations, and she said it was pretty accurate for a Hollyweird movie, and that a lot of the things that were said in the movie were believed to be said during the time of the real battle. I thought the movie rocked (I mean come on, 300 Spartans fighting off thousands and thousands of warriors, including the immortal samarais on elephants!), and I've heard the argument comparing the movie to the "current situation with those C%$#* F%$!@*# in Iran" j/k, (I quote The Big Lebowsky whenever I have an opportunity), and I agree with the journelist from the Chicago Sun-Times who said it has little resemblance to anything present, as the Spartans were outnumbered and went to battle in Greece to defend themselves against a huge invading enemy army. When I saw it the audience was constantly clapping and shouting thoughout the movie. I'll get the DVD when it comes out.

*sniff* That's beautiful man. *sniff* Another 300 brother *sniff* :D I'm SO getting it on DVD. And yes, even though it was based on a comic book, the story remained pretty accurate. Haha I know 'cause the repairman at my work is Greek so he told me the whole story. :D

Buff white guys is a gross understatement. Spartan males were bred to be the most domineering warriors the world has ever seen. By the time of this battle their bone structure and skulls were almost closer to silver backs than humans. Real Spartans would probably make the actors in 300 look like Keith Richards. :D

according to my english teacher, she told my class yesterday that spartans actually practiced homosexuality. that they were actually "made" to "love each other" like a lover so they would protect themselves and each other better in the battlefield than just be a "normal spartan".

We saw it Sun.!!! I can't remember the last time I heard movie watchers applaud at the end of a show...... This is what I found SO great... The love/respect for his Queen. When he was about to kick the Persian messenger into the pit, he looked at her for approval. Like... "Are we gonna do this"??? And in one nod she said, "We are... and we'll win, and I'll support you no matter what".... *sigh*

THEN! When she took out the traitor in front of the council! YEA!
And of course the amazing story, visual KOOLNESS, and all the hotties .....

    yea, great movie! :D

3 out of the 5 times I saw it people clapped. That says something about a movie. Last time I saw applause was "Schindler's List"

A schizophrenic Vietnam vet once told me Bruce Lee was his teacher, as he practiced "kung-fu" in the middle of a very busy intersection near Chicago, while holding a half pint of cheap whiskey in his left hand. That doesn't make it the truth. I had always thought it was the Greek philosophy types who took on young male apprentices who practiced homosexuality, while Spartans didn't. I wouldn't doubt it, though.

Hmmm . . wonder how that would work?

I saw 300 last weekend - VERRR NIIICE!! Good movie - awesome visuals (anyone see the Zatoichi remake and notice any similarities in cgi-gore and choreography??).

300 SPARTANS was also on cable this weekend (mid 60's version) - it was tres velveeta by comparison.

Scores a close second to Borat on the GO SEE IT NOW DAMMIT! list!

it was under water for sure. she could have cut glass with those nips lol. i just have to say that was one of the most bad A** movies i have ever seen. i loved it! the action was set up perfect with the way they would speed up the fights and then put them in slow motion. :sabduel:

I mean it's gorey but really the story is about a man who knows he will die in this war. He has been told that he can't wage war but instead he listens to his heart. He still fights to show that no matter what, you fight for what you believe in and youre only as good as the woman by your side.

Right? My friend asked how the fight scenes were... I said, " You know that scene in Troy, where BPitt takes out that huge guy in slow motion... it was like that x1000...." :D
