Re: The plot thickens...
Nope, I can't remember the strippers name either. All I do recall is that Eric said it was Deja Vu's showgirl of the year that borrowed him - for a photoshoot I think... the name isn't really important as showgirls will change thier name as often as snakes change out their skin.
He is a big boy though.... for us at least. Much-o snake.
He's a pretty friendly and curious beastie. Doesn't like being pulled out of his enclosure though... simple solution - don't do that. When you open the glass he slithers right out to you. Even better, to put him back in, you just put his head in and he slithers right back in. So nice compared to Carmen and Cleo who are reluctant to go home, like small children at bedtime...
When he's out he's a big softy.
Coming-soon... cage ugrades... he's going to get the same faux-rock backdrop that you can see in Cleo's and Carmen's enclosure, and a few big logs.

He was on a "maintenance" diet so he'd remain small enough for Alice to use on stage...1 jumbo a month...which is just not enough food anymore. He had gotten too big anyway to use for that sort of thing, so time to find a permanent home for him where he can just be an adored snakey. =)
Since we bought him a month ago (yes, I've been keeping this hush for THAT LONG), he was moved up to a 1 jumbo rat per week. Yesterday, we fed him 2 jumbo rats and you can hardly tell he ate at all.
The reptile shop warned us that he is cage aggressive - well yeah, I would be too if I was that hungry all the time! Anywho, we're going to investigate rabbit options in the local area and move him to small rabbits.
Neither of us have any desire to "grow the biggest burm we can!", but rather give him the proper amount of food so he's happy, healthy and hopefully, more relaxed. =)
Oh and he is a proven breeder as it turns out...not that we have any desire to breed burms, but I think that's kinda cool. :)

Re: The plot thickens...
beautiful pickup! That cage makes the snake look tiny. he sure will be happy now!

Re: The plot thickens...
Cool! I would keep a record of how much he weighs now, and then see what he gains as you increase his feedings.

Re: The plot thickens...
*apology up front to the folks that have pet bunnies....what I'm about to post about bunnies as snake food may offend but please remember these rabbits I'm mentioning are exclusively raised as food and never as pets...but I do hope it's not upsetting to some of you*
Here's a link Cass to some California meat rabbit breeders. I had a better one (where I ended up finding the rabbit supplier we used to feed the big boa we fostered) but I lost it unfortunately.

You can also generally find info on local meat rabbit breeders from most feed/tack/farm supply stores. Do stay away from Flemish Giants and that sort of oversized, really long bodied rabbit. They tend to have a really low meat to bone ratio so don't make great feeders.
We were lucky to find a rabbit breeder only 5 miles from us back in northern Michigan that was supplying for restaurants so had a very good, very high quality and very consistent supply of the exact size bunny that was appropriate for the snake. He was a bit more pricey than a backyard breeder but the quality of the meat rabbits (plus the convenience of having him almost in our backyard) made it well worth the extra couple of bucks.
Remember when you are judging a rabbit for size that you need to really check out the skull size. Unlike rodents who are rather wedge shaped (from the nose back to the wider hips) bunnies can have quite large skulls compared to the rest of their bodies so that skull can be bit deceptive. Also hold the bunny stretched out somewhat. They can appear a lot chunkier when sitting but may be not as well fleshed when you check them extended.

Re: The plot thickens...
The burm at school that I work with (9 foot 7, 31 pounds) was also a little cranky when first comming out of the cage (to the point of striking out about 3 feet the instant it realized the door was open), but was a LOT better once out. After a few handling sessions it calmed right down, and now it's calm as a kitten most the time. Hopefully yours will settle down as good for you. Amazing burm you've got.

Re: The plot thickens...
Sorry for the delayed reaction to recent posts, but thanks and big thanks to Jo for the rabbit-as-feeders tips...I just have not had time yet to investigate for and in local feed stores, other than one pretty far from here. I know the reptile shop in town carries frozen rabbits, but I'd rather buy live and PK myself so I can see how healthy the animal is (and how freaking long it would take defrost a rabbit - ugh).
Anyway, Lourdes came out last night so mommy could spot clean out some pee (and I use the word "some" lightly)...he's great. Just silthers on out and starts investigating. He is a wonderful snake. =)
And yes, we intend on keeping good records on him.

Re: The plot thickens...
Hopefully you'll find a good meat rabbit breeder in your state that's not too far away. When I was doing some research for you on this it seems that at one time California was like the mecca for big meat breeders as it was (and may still be) quite a favorite restaurant meat there. I loved that the big boa got rabbits from a breeder that was supplying for restaurants as his operation was top notch, the rabbits themselves were extremely well cared for and in good condition and his supply was consistent. We fed a combination of big rats and very small bunnies to the boa as she grew up eating both and seemed to do well on the variety (usually we did 2 feedings rats to 1 feeding rabbit and the boa ate every 10-14 days usually). I don't know however if burms are very prey specific that way...boa's certainly don't seem to be LOL.
