great pics xxcyxx, you and your snakes are very beutiful. i just read this thread and am unsure as to why lisa77 got so angry, it was a clear case of jelousy but wow it was strong.

Re: New Shots
i doubt lisa was jealous, but rather was concerned over husbandry issues... unfortunately she got angry and didn't articulate herself very well. ;)

Haha. Sure. Yeah. Anger over husbandry issues is why she'd post back to back comments when other people had yet to agree. Anger over husbandry issues is why she's only attempted to rip me a new hole and not other people. Anger over husbandry issues is why she randomly decided to start calling out all the "Yanks" and her hatred for them and the US when people failed to agree with her. Anger over husbandry issues is why she said some completely pointless things and egged people to agree with her.
Yes. It simply anger over husbandry issues.

Thanks for all of your compliments, on me and the snakes :blowkiss:
Your avatar you look like Natalie Portman. How much beautiful can one be when you look like that?

Just cuz shes beautiful doesnt mean she dosent know about snakes, or even more important, her knowledge about her snakes that she has had for a while. I have no objections, and i think the snakes are beautiful, and i guess shes kinda cute too lol :)
Come ON.. Lisa is absolutely correct here. I would never Dream of letting my BPs come in contact with my BCI; heck, I handle him last, and completely wash my hands afterward.. you never know with IBD. I personally have met a man whose ENTIRE collection was wiped out from this, when he merely brought a new boa into it.. he had pythons and boas. So, please think before you type.. it is the epitome of immaturity to call Lisa jealous when she is giving out TRUE information.
::hunkers down, waiting for a negative rep point:: I don't care, that was just uncalled for.

She definetly didn't articulate herself well... But to be honost with you...I've seen a few people reply to picture threads assuming and jumping the gun on how a person is caring for their animal(s) just by a picture that they see...
-
Re: New Shots
I understand that their are things that a ball could contract from interaction with a BCI but geez... If you are concerned...and you are really only trying to help and voice your concern...do so in a mature manner and be careful as to how you type your post because the person you maybe voicing concern to isn't always going to know what kind of attitude or tone that is being expressed..
-
Re: New Shots
And to further prevent your post on THEIR thread from turning into an unnecessary war try PM'ing them and tell them your concern there and ask them your questions. That red flag that caused the concern might just end up as a dud saving both parties the tension, (-) rep and ect...
Just my opinion...:)
I want ball-pythons.net to be a hostile free enviorment...no more sourness...

I know.. but people's emotions often run high when they see a photo that concerns and inflames them. I just personally think that it's a risk to put them near each other, knowing the obvious risk that could potentially be there.. and after having spent years of caring for both my BPs and BCI, and having it drilled into my head so many times that it is never even a good idea to handle a BP after handling a boa without washing, this would be my reaction too.
How about, a new, inexperienced keeper coasts in.. sees the pic of a boa and BP together.. and decides to go out and buy one of both, housing them together because they saw a pic of it.. but to each their own husbandry methods.. I do it my way and that's all I care about.

But they weren't housed together in the pic...simply put together for the pic...
which she also stated later on that they were housed seperately...that newcomer would have read that as well...
But your right...everybody takes care of their animals their own way. As long as they are taken care of and are kept healthy that's all that matters in my book.

Re: New Shots
I wasn't going to get involved besides my previous mention of disease...
But this is crazy!!
The people posting on this thread have been blinded, forgetting everything they have ever learned about snake care!
There are people on this forum who keep there boas and pythons as far as possible in their homes, at all times.. why? Disease that can kill off their entire collection!
It was stated that they aren't housed together - great. But Ginevive makes a good point. Even if it is stated that they aren't living together, there are still numbnuts out there who would think its okay to throw different species of snakes together in the same tank.
Now, im not saying yell and scream at her about it. But normally, with a picture like that, the people on this thread would pass on this above information in an informative, mature manner and hope she takes the advice in the future. It just seems that the men are acting like deer caught in headlights.
So now, I'm going to do it -
xxCyxx -
thats pretty cool that your boa and your python like eachother! It sounds like you have a pair of very personable snakes, and you understand them well. Just be aware that there are a few diseases out there that boas can carry, and you wouldn't even know that they have it, that are absolutly deadly to your python. One that's been mentioned is IBD - i think it would be wise to at least do a yahoo search for it, just so you can be aware of what it is, and what kind of symptoms to look for in your python.
Good luck with your pair - they are beautiful!

Re: New Shots
Oh shoot- it took me so long to type that in between baking my cookies, I kinda stirred things up again when everyone was happy. My bad.
-
Re: New Shots
Even if Lisa's only concern was for the well-being of the two snakes, she could have asked the owner if they knew about the dangers of IBD. The Boa could have been tested for all she knows, or the snakes could have had a history of consistant contact with no ill affects, but I think it is obvious that in addition to the photos of the two snakes together, the photos of a potentially attractive female owner threw her off the edge and made her assume that the girl must be an idiot if she is comfortable sharing photos of herself and herself wearing her pet as a "trophy."

Re: New Shots
I think things did get too abrasive.. that is not how our forum should be. :( At the same time, though, I am sure that no one means to come off as sassy or disrespectful in the beginning; it is tough sometimes to kep your composure when you have a point to get across that is important (I definately understand that!) But where name calling and accusations begin, that is when it just gets immature on every side of any topic.
Cy, you're a cute chick, and you definately belong here in the rankings of BP.Net hotties. :) Your snakes are gorgeous, and look healthy. But knowing what I have learned about IBD (inclusion body disease), It just makes me nervous to see boas alongside pythons.. here is the best article I could find on IBD (inclusion body disease).. http://www.anapsid.org/ibd.html

Re: New Shots
Beautiful girl, beautiful snakes. Especially love the head on the bracelets. :) I'm still learning here, so I can't really say much in the department of putting the two together, but they look neat and are very stunning. Great photo's too.

Someone's panties are in a wad! :colbert:
Anyway, nice pictures! Nice boa and Ball!

Re: New Shots
Obviously everyone is not aware of IBD and thats why we have these forums. I'm sure we have all been to reptile shows and lets face lots of species all next to each other. What kind of signal does that send to the beginner? Correcting some one and giving helpful advice is one thing but attacking the "Yanks" statement was pure comedy!

Re: New Shots
Ok I have read everyones responses & I have now calmed down.
Firstly, please let me apoligise.I will addmitt I can lose my rag & go way over the top & I have been totally out of order with the things I have said.. The jealousy bit made me mad..but thats no excuse...
My one & only concern here was with the snakes. I know someone who's retile collection was wiped out by IBD. This is just one of the dangers. I was simply showing concern & it defo come out the wrong way & im very very sorry.
For those of you that cant forgive then I can understand. For those of you that will I thank you & hope we can wipe the slate clean.
I appoligise endlessly to the young lady who started this thread.

Re: New Shots
I accept your apology. I am, and have been, aware of the concerns. But I've been assured over and over of Absinthe's health. Puppy's too. If I felt like either of them was in danger, I wouldn't even consider doing the things I do. I just want to make that clear, since most people here keep assuming I'm not aware of the dangers.
I would hope, that working in a pet store and being manager of the reptile section of the store, that I would know that much about snakes. Just because I'm pretty, I'm not stupid. I'm pretty used to those kinds of assumptions though. Young, pretty girls aren't exactly people's first assumption as the manager. They'll ask me, when I offer help, if they can talk "To one of the boys who knows about snakes."
So. Can we now stop assuming that I'm an idiot? That's directed to everyone, not just one person in particular. I happen to strongly agree with everyone who has made the suggestion to PM the owner of a thread when you have a problem, instead of publicly jumping down their throat. It's a good way to avoid a fight.
Back to the photos now. Thank you to everyone who has left compliments on either the snakes or myself.
The camera I use is an old Canon Powershot camera. I'm hoping to get a much better camera soon, because pretty much the only way the Canon gets good shots is if it has natural lighting.

Re: New Shots
actually i have to disagree with you on the "pm the owner of the a thread" part.
how will the rest of us learn? i didn't realize - until this thread - that IBD was passed from boas to balls. had no idea... so if she hadn't posted this... i would have been left in the dark regarding this information.
the point of a forum is to learn... to share information... to question people and to learn the answers. of course, when it's done in friendly, non-combative manner it's much more appreciated and people are more receptive to hearing what is being said.
but... it still needs to shared publicly!

Re: New Shots
I still disagree. There are plenty of other ways to learn than to watch someone attempt to tear someone else down. With all the reading I've done, and talking with vets and others who are big into snakes, I knew. Just because you didn't, and found out when I was being lectured, doesn't mean it was a good way to happen.
Read. People don't understand that. It's so underrated these days.

So I would just like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas & A Fab New Year.
