As hard as it might be, I think Adam is right. Your ability to effect positive change by sharing your experience and knowledge may not be appreciated and will most likely cause you frustration.

Thinking about it tho, maybe suggesting a good monitor website or messageboard (which *has* the information you wish to share) would work. And maybe just extending the offer of that information, if postively received, would invite the other person to ask you more questions ("are you an ackie owner yourself?", yadda yadda)...

I'm probaby the wrong person to ask about proper and polite way to approach strangers. I have no fear and put off a lot of people because of it. =)

Anyway, wow Marshall, you're only 13?! You are quite mature for your age, sir, which is very awesome. =) *high-five!*

Re: what do you do in a situation like this?
yesterday i was delivering silkworms to one of the petstores i frequent and someone was carrying his RTB and asking a question about his burmese. he said water was coming out of his burmese's mouth and he wondered what it would be.

they called me over to get my opinion... i asked him a few questions (how does her breathing sound... any raspiness - when she ate last etc) and i told him i had no idea but that i would call a vet and see if they thought a visit was necc. and while i was talking to him i asked him when the last time she ate was (as i was attempting to get this info into the conversation) - he said the day before and i said, "it's very unwise to hold your snake within 48 hours of it being fed. it's not good for the snake... "

the reason i asked about feeding was because he was holding his rtb who was stretched soooooo far in her belly from eating a hamster. waaaaay too big of a prey item for this little rtb and he kept stroking her belly and showing it off to anyone who would look. i wanted him to know, without me getting all in his face about it, that holding her and carrying her around to places wasn't in her best interest.

so i was able to share a little info while not being overbearing.

i immediately excused myself and walked away as i really wanted to slap the guy but in all honesty... it's not my snake and not my decision to make. i was able to give a little info which hopefully, if nothing else, he'll investigate and see if i was giving him correct info when he visits his vet this week.

    hope that helps marshall.

Ya know, in my professional career (the one outside of snakes) I've been to a ton of seminars and lectures over the years ... sales seminars, marketing seminars, investment seminars, computer seminars, etc ... and the ones that I learned the most from, the ones that I consider "the best" use of my money and time were always the ones that had a great MC that would soften up the crowd by cracking jokes and having fun in between each lecture. To me, it always seemed easier to absorb the information if I had a smile on my face, and to this day I can still vividly recall information from presenters that followed an especially funny or wierd MC.

Why do I bring this up you ask? .... Exactly. :partyon:
