Re: Indiana Man Killed By 14ft Python
Am I wrong for thinking this may have been brought back up so that certain "people" would be able to see it and have just one more thing to show as "proof" of how dangerous these wonderful animals are?
I too think its a little fishy. Especially since it inspired an argument. At this time? When we are fighting for the right to be able to keep these animals as our pets? Come on...
It was a terrible thing to happen. I feel bad for his famliy. But it is never the animals fault. Never... Think about Steve Irwin. How Terrie told the world it was a terrible accident but Steve loved the animals he was working with and would never want anyone to think bad of the stingray that merely acted in defense. The guy that lived with bears for years and vidoetaped every moment. He was eaten by one of his bears. Everyone who knew him agreed that he went the way the he would have wanted if given a choice.
As for the retic.. 11ft huh. That doesnt really matter. My super dwarf is only a bit over 5 ft and she is stronger and hangs on more tightly than any ball python I have ever handled.
A responsible keeper would have had 2 people there or at the very least, some other easy to reach tool for getting the snake off. Pepper spray on his belt, spray bottle of alcohol, hot water.. Heck, even the simplest trick of bending the snakes tail backwards hard at the vent area. People just get too comfortable in their own knowledge and experience. Then over time they become more careless. The only name I would ever call that man is careless.
This was a completely freak accident which could have been prevented. It happened. Ok what is that? A total of 4 or 5 people killed by a constrictor somewhere in the USA in the last 10 years?? It has been said on here before. Thousands die each year from car crashes, household accidents, dog attacks, suicide, drug over dose, medical malpractice, food poisoning, common viruses, shark attacks, etc..
Big snakes should not even be taken into account with these figures. Bottom line is, more education is needed. If channels like animal planet and organizations like HSUS & PETA focused more on education than scare tactics, we would not be in the situation we are in. Freedom of choice & free speech have not been free for many years...:grabbed:

Its differant than th girl in florida, she was young and it was her parents fault cause she didn't know the danger but the sub-adult kid KNEW IT, sorry if i tick'd some people off and I apologize for letting my feeling be known and as stated in prevous post want to know why this so-how go to the top
It has nothing to do with not having kids...its has to do with being young. You are young enough to still think you know everything and also young enough to think its ok to be callous like this and have no remorse for your statements. Don't remind me that you apologized, I saw what you wrote thats not an apology. Not when in the same paragraph you say "oh poor kids..." about someone crashing because of poor judgement and txt'ing. It would be like saying the FL couple deserved losing their kid because they were irresponsible, its immensely callous and I hope you look at your statements a little more.
I understand what the threat of losing your animals is like. I'm here on this site because I am a boa breeder and I am thinking about getting into Balls because I stand to lose my collection that I love and a serious amount of money in the process. This snake ban thing is real...I am dealing with it just like you, but its not right to take that anger out on someone else. It is extreme as you say.

Re: Indiana Man Killed By 14ft Python
id like to say something on this post... some people arnt goinig to like it.. but it goes along with people saying there should not be laws saying we can't own large snakes due to a few people die when far more people die from guns and cars and so many other things.. i agree with this...
but one thing that would make me mad is if they band big snakes or any snake or pet for that is smoking... the #1 killer in the US! is smoking!!!!.. and that just does not kill the person smoking but anybody around that person due to 2nd hand smoke... and everybody knows this about smoking.. and yet its still legal to smoke... but not to own snakes due to deaths when the # of people who die from smoking is far greater. that is one of the most dumb things i could ever hear...

That's because these people have thier hand in the money from that industry. As sad as it is.....The tobacco companies have enough money to pay the world off if they have to.

No matter how young you are, you should know what a spell checker is.
You are presenting yourself well at all.
Spelling is not your only shortcoming.

Indeed.
At least you won't feel bad when I don't feel bad because you insist on being stupid.

Please take it down a notch.

Re: Indiana Man Killed By 14ft Python
I can see it now.. If the HSUS paparazzi finds this thread....
~When an old thread describing the unfortunate death of a man by his own pet python resurfaced on a popular reptile forum, members showed their true colors..
It became clear during the ensuing conversation that even the reptile community was unable to remain civil to their own. Members were also requesting that the thread be removed completely. Now I ask you this. Why would a people so determined to prevent these bills from becoming a reality attempt to hide these facts? ~
......Connect the dots.......
Get it together people! :colbert:

No, I meant just what I said.
The way he presents himself is poor. He is not good at conveying his thoughts, not capable of formulating them, apparently, and not really able to understand why that is his lack and not that of anyone else.
The fact that he seems to have a rudimentary understanding of this lack, but the inability or simple lack of desire to present his position, his stance, his point of view, to represent that position in a more favorable and easily understood manner, simply gives credence to the theory that stupidity, though voluntary, is his constant companion.
As he has said, the choice was his.

Ok, when I saw your second line, I thought you meant to say that he 'was not' presenting himself well.
My apologies, I misunderstood that line. I understand now.

Actually, now that I've re-read it, I see that an entire and very important word is missing.
It should have read, "You are NOT ..."
But I'm glad you got it.
Sorry about that.

Maybe.
Odds right now are looooong.
Now, back to the subject at hand.
It's good that hope springs eternal though.

That's the best you've done yet.
Look, kid, it's not about right and wrong. If you read the whole thread you know I agree with you.
But when you present yourself as an ignorant lout, why should you expect to be treated as anything but an ignorant lout?
How is one to know that you are just too busy to use proper English? How is one to know that you are not some troll come here to stir up a mess when you post just like one? Why should you get the benefit of the doubt if you can't bother to take the time to frame your opinion in an understandable manner?
Why is it my fault you can't communicate your thoughts?
Do better.
Or not.
But don't whine about it.

How does my # of posts have anything to do with it. Did I not get my secret decoder ring to join this club. My # of posts have nothing to do with my level of experience in this hobby or for that matter life in general.

Again...I have no idea what me breeding boas, but joining a Ball-python forum has to do with anything. Are you implying that I was confused and lost and accidentally found my way into the "10 foot and over club" again I forgot my decoder ring I guess. I got it by the title of the thread that we were talking big snakes, and that it was a tragedy. I also was aware it was an old thread. I just read your comments and felt compelled to say something.

I don't understand this either...the spelling doesn't help, but its more the fact that it seems incoherent. I think you were trying to say you should have just not written those comments and kept your keyboard quiet and your opinion to yourself. If that was the case than I owe you an apology and I should have kept mine quiet as well.

I did not resurrect this thread. I was trying to help. I was trying to help you realize that its probably best to keep those "evil" feelings to yourself next time.

The guy was very special to the people in his life. I am sure you have someone you care about very deeply, think about if you lost them to some tragedy. Lets say it was something simple: Not wearing a seat belt, speeding, answering the cell while driving...any number of things. Its conceivable someone you know in your life who you care about very much and would miss very much does not wear a seatbelt all the time. Or maybe just this once they didn't because they were rushing to get home after holiday shopping...whatever the case. They get in a horrible crash and they die on impact. I show up at the scene as a paramedic and me and the new guy on shift walk over to an embankment where the crashed car sits at rest. I check the victim and pronounce them dead on the scene. Now my young callous partner who is just fresh on the job turns to me and says, "well they should have wore their seatbelt!" This person would be callous. Imagine now for a second that you were also in the car and you were standing on the side of the road mourning your loss, and you over heard this comment. Would you be angry? Would you hope one day that person realizes that people make mistakes, we all do its part of being human. Sometimes the smartest people make mistakes, even in the most obvious situations. Its why there called mistakes and accidents. They happen to everyone and sometimes they are fatal ones. I hope that one day if people in your life make a mistake you are more understanding and less judgmental.

Here is a good start towards that venture. Cut and pasted directly from Dictionary.com
cal⋅lous [kal-uhs]
Use callous in a Sentence
–adjective
1. made hard; hardened.
2. insensitive; indifferent; unsympathetic: "They have a callous attitude toward the sufferings of others."

Re: Indiana Man Killed By 14ft Python
Ugh....one person shows up here out of the blue and resurrects an old and controversial thread. THAT person wanders off, never to be heard from again....all the while snickering behind his hand at the mess he leaves in his wake.
This ridiculous argument is over. If y'all want to keep sniping at each other, go do it in QT.
