Re: Possible loss of colony
RESULTS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is COMPLETELY clear. BOTH tests came back today. The complex test also came back, completely CLEAR!!!!
NO IBD!!!! No trace was found!!! I... I cried. I bawled! I get to bring my beloved Hepburn to the shop to stay up there as the ambassidor for snakes. With the fact that she is a spinner, people always love her.
I'm so happy right now I can't see straight! I ran up and down my house, while my dogs all took naps and ignored me.
Now I think I shall faint!
All the well wishes and good thoughts and prayers worked great! THANK YOU ALL!

The time frame alone would have been convincing enough that it wasn't IBD, but that's just my own worthless opinion......
Wolfy I live in keystone and have also had UF vets do test that are not necessay, I would find another vet. I think the students mean well but some of them know nothing about ball pythons. But that's just my two cents.

Whew! What a huge relief! :D

That's great to hear. I hope Hepburn responds well to the treatments!

Re: Possible loss of colony

That is great news!!!! I got tears in my eyes when I read it, so I can only imagine how you feel!!!
Congratulations to you and Hepburn!
Curious--- Where did the name Hepburn come from?

Re: Possible loss of colony
Very happy for you but not suprised in the least. IBD moves very fast in balls, I tend to agree with other posters who have suggested finding a new vet.
In any case though it's still great news. :)

Re: Possible loss of colony
I'll bet it's in reference to the great actress Kate Hepburn who developed a palsy like head wobbling in her aged years (I actually named my first daughter Kate after her as she's a lady I always respected highly for her strength and convictions).
Congrats on Hepburn's diagnosis, Theresa! You must be thrilled beyond belief!

Re: Possible loss of colony
Whether or not others believed your snake had IBD or whether or not the tests were "necessary" I KNOW how worried you have been and I'm thrilled for you that you now know she's going to be ok!

Re: Possible loss of colony
You are correct. I named her after the late great Kate Hepburn. I am also quite aware that I am going to hell for it. LOL. She is elegant and dignified, despite the head wobbleing, which is identical to Katherine Hepburn.
For those that say get a new vet, I am satified with the vets at the university. Especially compared to the other choices, which include a vet that said "A snake? Well.. sure. Bring it in, I'll look at it." When asked if he knew about snakes and reptiles, he actually said "Well, no, I haven't ever treated a snake. But I am sure if there is anything obviously wrong I can help." I think I'll stick with the expects at UF who are the ones that identified and studied IBD first.
I know some of the tests are deemed unnecesary, but in this case, I feel better safe than sorry. AND they did see inclusions in the blood. There is a new study going on, that some inclusions have been seen in ball python blood samples that do NOT indicate IBD. Ongoing studies should tell us more one day.
The vets are not charging me for the liver biopsy surgery, NOR the IBD testing of the liver tissue samples. Apparently the students hardly ever get to diagnose on a live speciman, and they wanted the opportunity to demonstrate. And everyone fell hopelessly in love with her. She is such a star now, people across the web, and all over the university have been checking in on her.
I'll post some pictures as soon as I get her settled in at the shop all comfy.
Wolfy(who is still grinning!)

Re: Possible loss of colony
Theresa,
Congrats, on the good news. I'm glad all of the prayers helped. Let us know how the stomatits goes. I think Hepburn will pull through just fine. Keep us updated on her progress, and good luck bringing her back to full speed.

Re: Possible loss of colony
I suspected she was named for one of my favorite actresses! In my opinion Katherine Hepburn was one of the MOST sexy women around, even in her old age! Beautiful, dignified, total babe! As I am sure her namesake is too!

Re: Possible loss of colony
I brought Hepburn back today, the bill was significantly higher than the original estimate.
She is doing wonderful, and is installed at the shop to be oohed and ahhhed over. She does have stitches. I'll post some pictures soon.
