I have no problems with sheds at all. They come off in one piece including eye caps.
I guess I don't understand why you posted about rubbermaids then. If you are not having problems with your current setup and want to watch your snake at night in a display cage, why ask questions about tubs? After comments like this:

It seems you don't think they should be kept in tubs, if that is you opinion then just say it. I think my snakes have a very good quality of life. I have never treated a living object as a "toy". As Fez on That 70's Show would say "Good Day!!"

Re: rubbermaid enclosures?
Krazybob...I think that so long as you can provide the right temps and humidity, then however you choose to house your snake is fine. It's all just a matter of how much work YOU want to do to maintain it. Many...especially those with multiple snakes...find simple plastic containers to work best for them because of the ease of maintenance on their end. But there isn't a "right" way.
If your snake is eating well, has great sheds, and doesn't act particularly stressed, then you're doing everything just fine. :) I would love to see pics of the enclosure sometime!

Re: rubbermaid enclosures?
I don't believe there is a right way either. I have my cages that suit me best. I guess if I had a large amount of snakes I might consider plastic. But since I only have 2 and don't plan on getting any more the glass is my preferred cage medium. I have the 2 cages set up so they are pretty much self sustaining, I just like checking in on them a few times a day. Most of the time they require no tweaking.
I went by target yesterday to look at the cages they have and can see how they would be easy to choose. But they would take away my viewing abilities and that is my favorite part about owning snakes.
I initially chimed in on the thread while considering switching over. So I am open minded about it, it just doesn't seem to be right for me at this time.

Re: rubbermaid enclosures?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're more interested in your happiness and not your snakes. That's the vibe, anyway. -Shrugs.-
Do what you like. I'm definitely upgrading to a rack system.

I didn't get that impression at all, and I'm not sure why you did. Why the hostility?

Some biologists believe that the natural territory for a ball python could be as large as 150 square miles ... that's gonna be an awfully big glass tank. ;)
But ROCK ON with the anthromorphizing, it's always fun to read! ;)
The cool thing about ball pythons is that there are so many ways to keep them and they allow them to thrive at the same time! :D

I use a glass tank but I only have one snake. If I was going to get more, I'd definitely go with tubs :D

Re: rubbermaid enclosures?
Judy, I wasn't trying to be hostile. That's just the "vibe" or tone I got from his text. Like I said, correct me if I'm wrong. Just how I saw it.

Pardon me if I correct you for being wrong. If you've read what I have written before you can see that I have done all that I can for the well being of my snakes. Just because I like to watch them during the periods when they are active doesn't mean that I am more interested in my own happiness. If I were more interested in my own happiness I wouldn't spend so much money and time making sure the snakes are well taken care of.
Sorry you got the wrong vibe.

Isn't it funny how we all tend to anthropomorphize with our pets, no matter what they may be?

Just this morning, my husband was peeking at Kisasa and I said, "She's such a sweet snake, isn't she?" And of course, he looks at me like I'm nuts. And then he gets "that look" in his eyes and he says, "I thought you didn't believe in anthropomophizing snakes?" Men!! :P

The questions were just that, questions to see if I was doing something wrong. If my snakes would be THAT much better is a tub then I would be the first one to move them over. They seem content where they are and since I haven't received any definitive arguments to sway me I will stay where I am for now. Should I get another snake I will have to seriously consider the sterlite solution.

I have kept an open mind about this as you can see if you read all my questions. They were meant as just that, questions.

From reading your writings and your enthusiasm I can tell that you would give your snakes a good quality of life too. I am sure you don't treat them at toys, but tell me you don't know of someone who has gotten a snake then saw the owner treat it as a toy.

I apologize if I came off as accusing and I also apologize for the tone I brought. My assumption was incorrect.

Thank you.
I guess I read some things wrong. I'm glad you're shopping around. That's the best way to do it. (Exams and essays due are coming up. I'm on the fritz!)
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

That to me says you don't think tubs satisfy their "quality of life". You don't have to convince me you take good care of your snakes. If your setup works for you thats fine with me, but don't tell me that they need cages like that to have "the best life I can give them". It is not our job to convince you of anything, we are here to help if you have questions. But please don't insinuate that tubs are less appropriate. "Good Day"

How exactly do you plan on using a sling psychrometer inside a cage?

Is that anything like a Flux Capacitor? Can it provide 1.21 Gigawatts of electricity?

Sort of.
The reason I asked is that the sling psychrometer uses a wet bulb to measure relative humidity and requires that it be spun around in the air to do so.
See this link: http://www.usatoday.com/weather/wsling.htm
I have to say I believe this would certainly jeopardize the health and well being of anything residing in the cage. Unless of course the cage is walk-in sized.

Re: rubbermaid enclosures?
ahh, someone else knows how to work a sling. we don't even use those anymore in hvac. now we have digital ones that measure wet/dry bulb, around 80-100 bucks. way to over kill for me, i use the 15.00 ones from wally world. the humidity doesn't have to be that precise, imo. hey if your a techy kind of person, go for it. some nice thermometers are fluke 51-II and cooper sh66a!

Only when hooked to a DeLorean.

Yeah - its been years for me too.
We used to take humidity readings during summer practices to determine uniform levels and exposure time.
