Re: 1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
I know I just posted him the other day, but had him out for a min while cleaning his tub and was looking on point. Coloring up very very nicely at less than a year and a half old

Soooooo nice!!!! He's looking awesome!!!

Looking great as always.
I see he's putting on some nice size.
I'll have to snap some pictures of my carpets in their new cages (same cages switched who's in what) and post up.

Re: 1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
I swear this animal looks better every time I open his tub. 16 months old, probably 100grams, still living quite comfortably in a VE 11qt tub.

Re: 1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
First critter to eat here this year. Starting things slow with a pink rat to get his metabolism off to a start again. Wasted no time coming out of his cardboard tube. Probably start feeding other critters again soon as well.

Re: 1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
Gave this dude his first small rat pup last night. Suffice to say my brain has probably been in boa feeding mode for too long with my Morelia critters. Looked like a big meal until it was in his stomach. Gotta keep reminding myself to take EL-Ziggy’s advice and push the envelope a little bit! Still not going to slam them with food by any means, but the carpets are going to see some good, healthy growth here this year.

Thank you, bother! Crazy how much variation there is between them being cousins and all. Will be exciting to see what they produce if I get a successful clutch from them in a couple years or more

It's like an in between. Kind of like your Rock and kind of like the other Bris.
Gotta love the carpets!

Looking great JM.
I hear you on the food size for Carpet's vs. Boas :). Yafe is eating small rats now, but at about 800G, he could probably take a medium (about 110G vs. 70G for a small) pretty easily. That's what I am feeding Behira now (female BI at 2,200G). It's not hurting him to eat smalls now though either. He's eating every two weeks and still growing pretty fast, so I might wait a little bit to move him up. He's sturdy and 3 1/2 years old now, so either way, not too worried.
Carpet Pythons can digest what seem like large meals (I've heard 15-18% of body weight) to other snakes with ease, assuming temps are correct.
Again, looking great!

1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
Decided to upgrade this kid to some new digs today now that we’re out of the weeds with the arctic blast that was the southern US for the entire last week. He still fits in a standard TP tube and an RBI mini hide, and honestly was doing just fine in an 11qt tub, but was nearing twice the length of it.
Now in a 23qt with small hides, couple cardboard tubes, and his perch. Once my Rockhampton and/or female Brisbane are in larger enclosures with different arboreal options I’ll give him one of their wider 3D printed perches with the deli cup holder.

Stretched out and looking long!
I'm chomping at the bit to get some nice weather here so I can take some new pictures.
I forget that my Bredli is a 2017 and is older than your newest additions.
He's a 2017 so this September he'll actually be 4 years old.
The boa is still in his fasting phase. I think I'll feed in April.
I can't believe the colors on this Brissy. The variation in the species is crazy.
I'm looking forward to the summer months. I think your crew will take off this year and grow a lot.

Thanks, bother! I’m gonna put the food to them a bit this spring and summer. I’ve been a bit in boa mode with them for a while, but they’re getting slightly larger and more frequent meals.
I could probably get a weaned rat in this boy and the older two could probably take down a small rat. Charlotte could for sure and will start soon.
Excited to see updated pics of Kevin eventually! You nabbed a stellar Bredl’s for sure!

First weaned rat. My initial start with boas during the interim between having retics and getting into carpets radically altered my perception of what an adequate meal could be for a growing Australian python. Time to do some growing, Willard.

Nice work!
Yes, the species can take very large prey without being over fed. As long as ample time to digest and clear is taken, larger prey, within reason, is not anything to worry about.
The true survivors in nature get off to a good start and make their way to larger prey before the slow starters. The males that eat bigger, in theory will have the advantage in combat mating rituals because of their size. There are so many incredible photos of wild carpets stretched to the max because they took a huge meal. But there are no FAT snakes in the wild, at least I have not seen any photo evidence of it.
All that said, I fed Kevin prey that weighs less than his large rats yesterday. I fed him quail, but the gape required to ingest something like a quail is crazy by comparison.
I like variety and that was his first sample of avian prey.
I think you will see nice, steady and impressive growth this summer for your carpet crew!
Nice picture.

Re: 1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
You have a stellar collection Crook. I think this guy might be my favorite in your crew, even though your new JCP is a bona fide jaw dropper.

Thanks, y’all! I can’t really settle on favorites as it changes by the day. Willard is definitely one of my most calm and inquisitive carpets though and a lot of fun to work with. Only been nailed by him once and it was all my doing from trying to coax him off his perch and he was having nothing to do with it haha!

Re: 1.0 2019 Brisbane Coastal Carpet Progression
This dude has been here a year as of last week and is doing wonderfully. Probably moving him into his next grow out enclosure soon 2x2x1’. Not sure on length, but I’d ballpark him around 3.5’ or a tad less. Smashing weaned rats like a beast.

Moved Willard into his next enclosure the other day and took his first meal in it last night. Probably right at 3.5’ based on how he looked along the walls of the cage as he was checking it all out.
May write a thread on how I raise my Morelia critters regarding progression of enclosure sizes as they grow if anyone is interested in that.
