That's good, but cold snakes tend to be more... sleepy I guess you could say, if he's cold he'll be way less active
It's not a bad thing per say, but you will want to raise his temp, and maybe do it gradually if he's cold. If it rises really fast and he's really cold, it could stress him out more. Again no worries though, you're getting it corrected

And snakemom85 is right, if you have a mesh top or "open" top, it loses humidity quicker. In the winter I cover up the top of my snakes enclosure with a wood board, tin foil also works great. If you find too much humidity is staying in, try a cloth (so it can "breathe")

update: i got the heat mat thermostat, and its great! his temp was WAY too high but it’s fixed now! i have also ordered a second one for the heat lamp

Awesome! the goofy behavior may have been the snake being too hot. I'm very glad you got that heat mat regulated :) He is a good looking snake and lucky to have an owner who wants to give him the best. Regarding humidity, you can also get plexiglass cut to fit almost the whole top of the cage. When the humidity is a little higher, the shedding will be all in one piece and shouldn't catch on anything :)

I promise you it all gets easier once husbandry and temps are dialed in. High temps can definitely lead to erratic behavior, so that should improve now.

I commend you for being open minded and putting in the time and effort to improve your snakes set up. Your new pet appreciates it and the experience will be better for both you and your snake. Good job!

I believe thermostats are the most crucial piece of equipment for keeping snakes. Once your temps are dialed in the rest is pretty easy. I hope your BP chills out, most snakes eventually do.

I feel you don't have one yet order a infra red temp gun from Amazon. You can get one for about 15 dollars. I move substrate and check the temp on the floor of the enclosure, my hot side thermostat sits at like 94 to keep the floor at 88. My cool side is pretty much dead on, point is don't trust the thermostat reading to set your heat.
Also I might have missed it, I think you said the snake was 2 years old, have you had it that long or is it new to you?
