Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
The new Herpstat 2 arrived last week and I finally have enough time to start messing around with probe placement to dial-in the RHP. Depending on how things go, I should be able to move Adelita into her new digs by the end of next week. She was looking good in dark phase today:

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...17d6af2030.jpg
I noticed her vent looks a wee bit pink. Her whole belly seems to be on the pink-ish side, too, though it's always kinda been like that. It seems to be a non-issue, but I figured I'd post a pic in case. For the record, it's been four meals since her last "bit of business" and a little over two months since her last shed:

Pink belly usually means a shed is coming.
She looks awesome.

She's so precious <3 I love her

if she's not shed for two months then I don't think it will be long

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
Finally started the process of dialing in the RHP today. It'll probably take me a few days to do so, so I've decided to hold off moving Adelita to her new digs until the holidays are over. We had a nice little photoshoot in the interim. Finally getting good at catching her tongue flicks:

It dawned on me today that Adelita has officially been home for over three months and has effectively made it through a standard quarentine period with flying colors. I feel like I've grown quite a bit alongside her these past three months. The process of learning proper, nuanced snake husbandry and kitting out an enclosure of size has been an enlightening experience. It all puts how much space and resources I'd require for a second boa and larger enclosures into perspective. Part of me is seriously debating bringing home a second (and likely final) boa in the new year, and I've narrowed down the candidates to either a male Sonoran leopard or a male longicauda. We'll see what happens.

Adelita's been a pretty mopey since she came out of blue. Took her out to let her sit in her new enclosure for a bit on the cork log under the RHP and UV-B. She perked up quite a bit and seemed to really enjoy it! I'll be moving her in to her new digs as soon as she finishes shedding. Looks like that won't be far off:

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
Well, would you look at that. Somebody had a perfect shed last night.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8273a5315b.jpg
It looks like her colors washed out a little bit since her last shed. Her tail in particular seems to be lightening up between the red patches. I'm interested in seeing how the hypo gene manifests in her as she gets older -- it seems to be pretty variable in Sonorans. I'm hoping she'll keep some good contrast between her saddles and base tone, but she'll be a gorgeous boa either way.

Adelita is absolutely beautiful. I am pining for a red tail but simply do not have the space or experience right now. Just got my first snake a few months ago but a redtail is goals.

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
This little lady weighs in at 110g with one meal in her now, up from 100g in mid-November. She's a smidge shy of two feet according to the "measure my snake" widget. It definitely seems as though she's put on a little more muscle and bulk since I brought her home. The hoppers she gets aren't really leaving a bulge anymore, so I'll probably bump her up to the next-sized mouse when I make my expo food run in February.
She's still in her 20L while I troubleshoot a ventilation issue in her new enclosure. I do give her the run of it during handling time, though:

Things were finally looking good with the new enclosure, so Adelita moved in today! I'll be giving her a few days to herself while she settles in. She was in pretty in dark phase prior to her move. It's fascinating to see how dramatically her face changes between the two phases.

Thanks! The photoshoot background and the new enclosure happen to be one in the same. :) It's a Universal Rocks "Rocky" background with some of their DIY ledges.

Adelita is sooo cute! :D She looks so sweet and docile. You really struck gold finding a Sonoran boa with such a wonderful temperament! Also, her new enclosure looks amazing, great work!

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
Adelita took her first meal in her new digs with gusto last night and has spent most of today partially basking in her favorite log. She definitely seems to be settling in quickly. Did a quick photo study in angles when I peeked in to check on her. She's got so much opalescent fire for a young hypo!

With her looking this good under the lights, I can't imagine how awesome a BIL or a Sonoran leopard might look. A second snake is almost definitely going to happen at this point. Those two are at the top of the list of "most likely" candidates, with small carpets and then pure SD retics behind. The decision will ultimately come down to how much snake I feel comfortable handling on my own.

Adelita continues to grow well here and has comfortably settled in to her "big girl" quarters. She won't be an only boa for much longer -- I've officially made a decision on "second boa," as I like to call them. I'll leave the rest as a surprise, but hopefully you'll be meeting them soon!

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
Spring has arrived disturbingly early, and Adelita seems to be perking up for the season. It was nice spending a bit of quality time with her today after not having a lot of time to do so the past few weeks. She's around 26 inches nowadays and 134g with a few meals in her. After seeing how small Kuzco -- a male of a nominally larger subspecies that's about a month older than her -- is compared to her, part of me is wondering if the "conservative" 10-12 day feeding schedule I put her on back in December was conservative enough. Either way, she's on small mice now, so she's on a ~14 day feeding schedule from here on out.

Adelita has been openly basking quite frequently as off late. Her behavior has definitely changed as spring has arrived -- she pretty much stuck to her cool hides during the winter, but now she's seeking out the heat and basking more frequently. She's currently in dark phase and basking off last night's mouse. It's been quite fun to watch her behavior change with the seasons.

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
Another perfect shed in the bag for this girl! She's developing some nice contrast -- all her darks have gotten darker, while her lighter patches and base tone have gotten lighter. She's also perked up quite a bit now that's she out of shed.

Re: Adelita - 2019 Hypo Sonoran
Detected the start of a nose rub on Adelita's snout last night, so she got a diluted Betadine swab and a dab of snake-friendly (original formula) neosporin today. I would have preferred to use silver sulfadiazine, but alas, it is prescription only. She was a good girl for the whole first-aid session, and there weren't any hard feelings after.
Hopefully I caught things early enough for home first-aid to address it. The rub is only two scales wide at the moment, so I'm pretty optimistic. The real question is when and what she's rubbing herself on -- I haven't seen any pushy behavior outside of some hunting a few weeks ago.

Her nose is healing up quite nicely and a bit faster than I expected, which is a nice surprise. I'm keeping an eye on her, though. I've noticed that there's a slight pale ring around her right eye, though she's never had any trouble with it (ie. retained eye caps) and her humidity is good. It's probably normal and I'm overreacting, but better safe than sorry!

Adelita's still growing well. Having Kuzco around has made me realize how much she's grown -- she's a little over 27 inches and 130-140g now, compared to around 20 inches and 90g or so when I got her. She's had quite a bit of pink blushing develop in the past few months, though I haven't been able to pick it up on camera. Her nose run seems to have healed up as well, but the spot's stayed dark, and some days I'm not so sure. It almost seems as though she's developed some leopard "whiskers," though, so part of me thinks this might be a pigment change. Anyone with more experience should feel free to chime in.
