Wow! That snake is a BADASS! And his name is very fitting! I’m in love with him! Super cool video of him feeding, too. Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to see more of him [emoji16]

I adore that video. So much sass in such a tiny package! It would be cool if you could make the same kind of video every 6 months or yearly and eventually combine them once he's full grown into a progression video of sorts (although I imagine you'd need a 2nd person for filming once he gets larger).

That's a great idea! I'll continue to record feeding videos every few months anyway, so I'll have to compile them eventually haha

Wooooow! That is one fierce feeding video. My god!! Haha

looks like I have a wimp on my hands. Goldar is a dainty little eater compared to that beast you got there haha

he snatches hard but just gobbles and will eat from my hand.

He also was slow to start earing and has been hand fed pretty much his entire life

really cool stuff !! Thanks for sharing

    Another feeding video... https://www.instagram.com/p/BrOX7BCANoO/

He can already take small hoppers! But I still have fuzzies left, so I feed him 3 fuzzies per meal, or 1 fuzzy and 1 hopper (he already took a fuzzy before this hopper in the video). He is eating every 3 days.
A couple times, I fed him two fuzzies every two days. I noticed that if I feed him every 3 days, he literally is already skinny looking and amped to eat more food by the third day. Also pretty fast growth, I think!

Well, at least compared to what we know he’s capable of.

Sorry for the frequent updates, but I swear he's bigger every week! LOL he's a big guy and on hoppers now!
And just barely starting to go into shed again, so you can see the slight blue tint on his eyes.

    No SO, no rules!

My dumerils boa and green tree python are both 6 feet anyway. My northern pine will be around 7 feet as well. A 7-8 foot colubrid isn't all that big.

Have you seen the feeding videos? Cute? His idea of "killing" prey is bludgeoning it to death (I see redshepherd feeds f/t though - thank you!)!

Okay, even if he does crush and slam his prey to death, and violently strike it first, I have to admit, he is kind of cute :).

However, I am still a fan of constriction, for the record (no offense Drogon; whatever works for you buddy).

I love watching the different methods snakes have for getting a meal- whether it's grab & slam, constriction or even venom, they're ALL amazing adaptations
when you consider these creatures have no hands or anything. Venom is actually a more modern way- strike fast & stay out of the way until the prey dies, then
collect your prize. The snakes that constrict have a much higher chance of injury by prey that fights back during the battle. "Grab & slam" is cave-man style...:D

HAHAHAHAHAHA but it’s the most precious bludgeoning EVER!! I do love watching indigos feed...that kind of savagery even trumps my scrub! Beasts, I say. But precious beasts [emoji4]

These pics below are from a few weeks earlier! The little indents on some of his scales is apparently from being curled up for long periods of time inside his hide... by his own choice of course. He is a shy boy. Lol

Thank you! He unfortunately stopped with the bludgeoning recently. I suspect he was either very hungry when I first got him, or he now learned that his meals are already dead... LOL less entertaining, but he just kind of grabs and swallows the mouse now like any other lazy snake.

Just popping in to let anyone who is interested know that I regularly update my instagram about my snakes! So if you'd like to see Drogon's pictures or anyone else's, they are all there. =) Thanks for looking.

I really started this instagram for my snakes last August (so about 8-9 months ago... it was kind of just a random instagram for a couple months before that) and it really blew up, so it's very motivating for me to keep updating there haha

Thanks jellybeans! The current captive bred population is legal to breed and keep in every state without permit I believe, except for a couple where they are native that would require a permit. The only permit required other than that is if you want to purchase from a breeder out of your own state, then you would need an interstate commerce permit (for transferring across state lines), but there's no permit needed for ownership. It's just illegal to catch wild individuals.

I was informed that this thread is apparently still showing up in searches for eastern indigos, so I thought I would update this almost a year later lol! So you guys and anyone who happens to look can see his progress.

Here he is at about exactly 1.5 year old. He is approximately 4 feet long and I have not weighed him. He's very docile, particularly when in shed for some reason. The opposite of most snakes LOL.

I also have a 5 year old unicolor/blacktail cribo named Aslan now, and another 9 year old eastern indigo male named Masamune (posted below the pics of Drogon)... I swore to myself that I will never get any species of snakes again except for drymarchon, ever since I got Drogon, and that has not changed!!

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ERfS96aU...pg&name=medium

Masamune: I didn't actually anticipate or expect owning him, it was a very sudden decision from a mutual snake keeper literally 20 minutes away from my house LOL. He's 9 years old and has a history of SEVERE nose rub from a previous owner (not the girl who owned him before me) possibly from a too-small enclosure, that left the entire front of his face almost transparent where you can see his tongue flicking in and out from through the top of his nose!

It's since healed very well, but left him with a bit of a wonky looking snout and of course some scarring even around his nostrils. It looks like he probably always has a hard time shedding smoothly around that area too, due to the misshapen scales.

I fairly regularly got random people (usually non-snake people) asking me if he is either 1. venomous or 2. a king cobra LOL
