So guess i missed it but what cage and size did you end up going with? Also did you decide to keep Gerald or is he still for sale?
I know when i was debating on selling Caesar due to me being stupid about issues, I kept backing out when people were offering to buy him. I just couldnt get rid of him as he is such a nice boy, made it too hard when he would sit at the front of the cage and just stare at me until i opened a door and started petting him lol.

Cage is two halves 48x32x42 each that will connect for an 8’ long cage.
Gerald is still for sale but no interest is being shown. I bought a pair of full arm length leather animal handling gloves for when I need to deal with him because he is definitely not the nice boy that Caesar is. At least not at the moment. He refused food the other night too, definitely in full breed mode

Wow thats a huge cage. look forward to seeing it set up.
I bet Gerald will mellow out once his testosterone driven rage subsides lol. And yeah he must be in full on mode. Even when Caesar wanted a girlfriend, he didnt pass up a free meal haha. Also could be the smell of Phyllis is pushing him over the top. I dont have a female retic so that might have helped. Good luck with him and hopefully he calms down soon so you keep him. Like i said, i like Gerald. After seeing him as a baby, it made me want one lol.
Caesar shed this morning and was out front to greet me lol. I opened his door and he literally laid on my arm with his head while i petted him for about 10 mins. Then i guess that was enough of a greeting as he climbed on the freezer to check it out and then decided he wanted to come out and play. He is pretty darn big and heavy now lol. Super dwarf my butt haha. He's gotta be about 8 feet now.

I miss typed, it’s 2x (48x32x*24) not 42” tall lol.
I sure hope Gerry either calms down or takes food soon because now in addition to slashing himself twice he’s smashing the hell out of his face and it’s all swollen.
I. Can’t. Ever. Win.
And yeah, super dwarf my ass... Phyllis is now almost as big around as my calf and at least 10’. I’ll get a better idea of her length once she’s stretched out in her new cage soon

10' is super small for a retic, I wish breeders wouldn't tell people SDs are in the 5-7' range because while that can happen it's not the norm.
looking forward to seeing this mansion, I mean cage, when you get it all together! it's going to be lovely

Couldn’t agree more. Absolutely 10’ is a tiny retic compared to a mainland. From what I can gather through obsessive researching of all things SD is that 6-10’ is more the average size of a pure SD. People who claim the 5’- 7’ average are either not feeding their animals or wildly underestimate their measurements/can’t measure their snakes. I’m sure some bloodlines do indeed stay much smaller but even Phyllis’s parents were said to be 6-7’. Id be curious to see what they actually look like stretched out against a tape measure.
Also wouldn’t be surprised if through years of captive propagation of these island locales that due to more steady food supply, and more nutrient rich feeders, that their potential for larger growth is more easily achieved. Just a theory though.
I’ll be sure to flood this thread with pics once I get the new snake chateau up and running! Got lights and RHP, just need to make a cart for it so i can roll it around to get behind it when needed. Think I’m gonna connect three furniture dollys with 8’x1”x3” boards and call it good.

Caesar did the same thing when he wanted a girl. He would push like crazy and leave slime trails all over the corner of the glass where it met the center brace.

Dude it’s not even limited to the corners here. Literally the entirety of the glass and every square inch of surface area in the enclosure.

Yeah, Gerald is going over the top especially if he refused food. Caesar wanted to breed but he still had food as his main priority lol. I picture him saying 'go make me a sammich!' after some hanky panky lol.
Plus he never took a shot at me. I would probably freak out if he did as he's pretty big and has a pretty big head too.

What snake are you selling? and How much? And what's the conclusion on the 8 foot cage ordeal, Was boamaster the best option?

Gerald is being rehomed. Not discussing prices in this thread because it’s against the TOS.
Hard pass on boamaster. He tried real hard to push the 15” tall cage on me that I wasn’t interested in and every time I asked about the custom 24” tall cage the price went up with every conversation I had. Jon’s Custom Creations and Reptiles is shipping my cage, with basking shelf and locking glass doors, for about $200 less than boamaster quoted for the same size cage with no shelf and acrylic doors that don’t lock with a big laser etched logo on them.

What is Gerald..? Maybe message me ? I am always looking for new pets. I talked to Jon. i'm not real sure about ordering online from someone I know nothing about. But I might try it. Idk. looking to buy around the 20th. Mind sending me an update when cage comes in? I'm also not too keen on the $40 thermostats he uses

Gerald just went to his new home. He’s a retic and wiley one at that.
I was unsure about buying from Jon too but he’s got plenty of reviews, all 5 star, and seems to be a one man operation. I’ll be updating this thread and maybe make another once I get the cage set up. You can always use your own thermostat instead of his. I bought my own LED lights, RHP, and have herpstats that will be used on this cage. His prices are more than fair imo as well. I would have done AP but they wouldn’t build the design I needed and I also didn’t want to wait 3-4+ months. Next week is 5 weeks from the time of my order and it should be shipping

Re: Retic cage thoughts
So far every single enclosure I have ordered in the last two years has taken at least twice the lead time I was quoted. First two T8s were supposed to have shipped in ~3weeks and took 7-8weeks. T25 was supposed to be 10-12weeks and took a whopping 25weeks.
Apparently the behemoth cage won't ship until maybe next monday now. Was supposed to have shipped mid to late last week but I guess the company Jon orders the glass doors from horribly messed up the order...
I originally ordered the cage on Aug 6th and was told 3, maybe 4 weeks. Seems it will now ship at 7 weeks. Good thing Phyllis isn't in dire need of an upgrade... Still a tad annoying though.

Always is a PITA. I just tell myself its worth it. I found a Used enclosure 2 hours from me and grabbed it last week and figured it will do for 6 months until I can get the T60. But I share your aggravation [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Here it is on my MacGuyver style furniture dolly cart. Waiting to finish lids until the shelf braces get here. Need to find a good pole/pipe/something for an 8’ perch. Might just do pvc pipe and paint it because I can’t find 8’ black pvc pipe locally or for a reasonable price.

I love it. Is that 24Hx32D or Vice Versa?
As far as PVC. Remember I did mine with a Support in the middle so it helps them not to sag with the anakea weight. I ran it at 12” high on my 24”H enclosures from Side to side and dead center used a PVC “T” and ran a Pipe to the Floor with a end cap. I bought Shower Curtain Rod Holders at LOWES for each end. One is the shape of a Horse Shoe. I then bought the Caps for the ends of the PVC pipes and for double strength put Bolts through each side of the enclosure into the caps that are at each end of the PVC pipes that are also resting on the shower curtain rod holders. (Hope that makes sense hahahaha). As you know my Girls climb constantly and it works great. Im thinking of making one for the 8’ AP enclosure when I order that after Giacomo is at least a year or so.. ohhh and I used Textured Spray paint (Brown) on the PVC then I clear coated it good with a brush so i can wipe it down.
Thanks for posting the pics. It gives me a good idea of the size I’m interested in. [emoji1360][emoji1362] Cant wait for pics when she gets to see it [emoji216]

It’s 32”deep and 24”tall.
I’ve got some really nice 3D printed perch holders with a notch to keep the pipe from spinning. Not a bad idea with the center support. Only concern with that is that Phyllis could very well knock the support sideways and subsequently sag the pipe. We’ll see though. A 2” diameter schedule 40 pvc pipe at 8’ should easily hold 30lbs but I’ll do some “stress tests” at Lowe’s before committing to it hah!
Can’t wait for Phyllis’s vet vacation to get her fixed up and then surprise her with this freakin condo once she’s home in a few weeks

Re: Retic cage thoughts
Yup that why I have a Bolt threw the enclosure into each end cap with a Nut on the inside of the cap. Ofcourse the caps are glued onto the PVC pipe so nothing can spin after all that hahaha. Im sure you will think of something. I’ll be watching [emoji102][emoji23]

I’m trying to keep things removable wherever possible so I’m not planning to anchor the perch permanently. Specialty Enclosure Designs makes the perch holders I’m going to use. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d3185c15c7.jpg
They’re tough as nails. Just cut a notch in one end of the pipe and it keeps it from spinning. If the perch gets consistently knocked out of the holders I’ll consider using a set screw of sorts through the side of the cages.
Slightly different topic... once the build is finished would folks here like to see all the specs listed in this thread or make a new thread dedicated to the build and its details so as not hunt through a hundred posts to find everything? Let me know whatchyall think!

If you go PVC, you can wrap it in twine to give it some texture, you may want to check Home Depot if you have one and see if they have stair railing. I was temped to buy that over the fence posts as I could get nice long sections.
Fake vines and twine can dress up about any perch, and if you end up with something wooden, you can staple fake foliage onto it.
You can see the front perch here is a closet dowel that I had to dress up. It was really boring, and too smooth for Wallace to grip. Fake vines and fake plastic plan leaves made it look the part.
The second perch is actually a real tree trunk from and oak tree that was damage in a storm.
Last perch in the rear has the twine. Twine is very inexpensive and you can buy long sections of it and wrap it as heavily as you want. Some folks with cat jungle gyms have the stuff.

Your cage looks sensational in it's early assembly stage.

Dude! Stair handrail, of course! The most obvious solutions are always the last that I’d consider and you in true Gio fashion come through once again. Thanks brother! Would certainly look nicer than a pvc pipe.

I've been toying with the idea of doing the whole connecting two 4' cages together to make an 8ft cage, but this looks awesome!
