Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
0.1 MIA, anery tessera
She is currently unnamed but has gotten the nickname MIA. She has a fun story. My wife wanted a corn of her own and chose this one. She came the same time camo did. She was hatched on 6/19/18 and arrived with me on 7/17. On 7/20 my wife and I left for vacation, but apparently her quarantine tub forgot to get closed. So she had a good 3 day head start on us looking for her. Hatchling corns aren't easy to find. We tried the normal tricks like flour, random warm hides, water bowels but saw no sign of her. we hoped she would eventually turn up in a year like they seem to do a lot. Last night on 8/15 I was reading before bed and heard a noise near one of my bedroom snakes but the sound wasn't coming from the tank. Upon investigation I found our lost little noodle. We had only had her for 3 days before she went M.I.A. for 26 days. She happily took a pinkie after her little adventure.

Great news! Great sign that she ate right away!
Sounds like your beauty will be fine for a long time!

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Why do they call them zombie corns :)? You have some gorgeous critters 67.
-
Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Thanks Ziggy!
Currently it is undetermined if this trait is recessive or polygenetic. This one particular breeder found that this line of corns slowly lost their headstamp (spear shape on top of their head) with each shed cycle. By the time they are adults they are left with a pale grey face which is how she came up with the term zombie.

The adult pic in the previous post isn't showing up for me now so here it is again.

I've been looking for a honey tessera to use for a future breeding project. I happened to find Don Soderberg of South Mountain Reptiles had a 2017 female still in stock. Don was awesome to deal with as recommended by some of his past customers I know. This is my new girl Clover.

Of course on par with my luck of ordering snakes recently, there was some issues. So I now also have this pretty 2018 snow tessera. I'm thinking she might get named Winter.

Love your collection and you have the best names!

I finally turned on the pellet stove in my den where I have my corn collection. They really liked it a few degrees warmer than it has been. At one point everyone that wasn't in blue was out and moving about in their tanks.

Really love Hannibal, 67temp!
Don't get me wrong, they are all beautiful, and I am sure all individuals was well. However, I just love his color and pattern.

Vote #2 for Hannibal. I like them all, but he is particularly striking in color.
-
Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Thanks. Yeah he is one of my favorites too. Not just for his color and pattern but he is also one of the more active and curious ones.

I also recently picked up this 2013 extreme okeetee girl produced by SMR. Her previous owner had named her Luthien.

Nice looking animal.
I bought Solana from SMR. Don is great. Awesome animals and awesome guy.

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
She’s a beauty! I’ve always liked those bright oranges with the black rings. :P
-
Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
BTW - in case you, or anyone else is interested, Don at South Mountain Reptiles, https://www.cornsnake.net, has two Scaleless Okeetee corns for sale. I have no vested interest, but I won't say I didn't look. I imagine they will be incredible as adults.
-
Nice family you've put together there. Thanks for sharing.
-
Love the look of corns, esp. the classic normal types.
I only own one, but there are always two or three on Kingsnake.com that I would purchase if I had the extra funds and space.
-
Thanks!
if anyone wants, feel free to request pics of any particular snake or part of snakes like eyes, belly checkering, head stamp...etc. that I have in my collection.
-
What a great collection! They are all very pretty and look very healthy and curious. I love the photos you have taken in natural environments, too. The tin can ones are my favorite.

What is Hannibal? He is uniquely gorgeous on ANY background... I've never seen one like him either. Wow!
What did he look like as a hatchling? And did he turn out as expected & like his parents? (for anyone who doesn't know, corn snake colors evolve as they grow)

Thanks Bogertophis, this might be a long post.
The genes in this line are as follows:
Amel – is a recessive gene that eliminates black pigment, amels are also called albinos.
Bloodred – is a recessive gene that breaks up the edge of the normal saddle and blends them into the background , eliminates the ventral checkering, and modifies the headstamp.
Caramel – is a recessive gene that gives a yellow brown or straw like color.
Cinder – is a recessive gene that gives the animal an ashy grey look. The morph also breaks up the pattern some and when combined with sunkissed you get shatter corns.
Miami – is a wild type or polygenetic trait that is usually red or orange saddles on a grey background.
Sunkissed – is a recessive gene that modifies the head stamp and shape of the pattern. It also brightens colors such as yellows and reds. When mixed with caramel you get honey. As honey ages it just gets brighter.
Sire (FC) – Miami, caramel het sunkissed, amel, cinder, blood red.

Dame (145) – Honey, Bloodred, het amel
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...078a6770_o.jpg
I’m hannibals second owner. The previous owner only had him for about a month before deciding to go a different route with his breeding plans. Hannibal is a Honey, Bloodred, Miami, PH amel cinder.

First owner pic:

For comparison I also have a female clutch mate named Clarice. She is honey het bloodred PH amel, cinder. She didn’t get the Miami look passed down, is only het for bloodred and has the single head stamp modifier.
Baby pic:

Recentish pic: she is ever more yellow in the background now.
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...055bd793_o.jpg
I also have Beatrix who is a half sister to Hannibal since they share the same sire (FC). She looks a lot like the parents.
Dame (200): Miami caramel het sunkissed, amel, cinder, and bloodred.

She is a caramel Miami ph sunkissed, amel, cinder and bloordred.

brown chicken brown cow
She has been out of brumation for close to a month now and has been in blue for the past 5 days and just went clear. We have a front coming through with the chance of snow so I figured it was worth a shot putting them together. The male has been pacing his tank a lot recently. This is my first attempt at breeding. The male is het charcoal and anery so I'm hoping the female proves to have some hets. I'll know if she has het's if some of the babies show up as blizzards or snows.

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
It's always the ones you look forward to breeding the most that gives you the hardest time. These two just wanted to cuddle.

-
Aww, give 'em time. Maybe they're waiting for Valentine's Day? ;)
-
Well it turns out the extreme okeetee wasn't a female. Since I wasn't getting action from those two I tossed a proven female in with the okeetee and it didn't waste any time trying to court her. :(

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Surprising how many more babies you het with a male and a female. Lol
Good luck with the pairing

Yeah a male and a male doesn't quite work for breeding. I'll attempt a similar pairing next year when one of my females is large enough.
-
-
-
On a whim I tossed these two virgins together and have now had 3 confirmed locks so far. Pairing is a caramel, sunkissed, bloodred, Miami 66% ph amel 50% ph cinder X Caramel Miami 66% ph Sunkissed Amel Cinder Bloodred.

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Beautiful collection, and I LOVE your names!!!
I’m curious about Ruby Rhod. I think she’s listed as an amel, but she looks particularly bright and red. Why is that?
Thanks for sharing photos of those beauties!!

Sorry somehow I missed your question previously. As far as I know he is only an amel. He may be a sunglow amel but the sunglow is just a line bred trait to be bright red. Similar to how a candycane is also an amel, but is bred to have a white background.

Beatrix just had her pre-lay shed last night.
Lydia double clutched on 4/14 without being rebred. Only half of the eggs were fertile. So it appears she is prone to doing that and will need to have her food intake monitored. Her first clutch is on day 59 and just started to dent in so hopefully they will be pipping soon.

On day 67 the piping started.
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...46df2b61_o.jpg
Day 68 morning at least 7 of them have pipped. No hidden hets have appeared yet and all appear to be amels so far.
