Lol yeah I just almost got tagged by both Rango and Gina. It's the little boas that are dangerous lol. I was hanging Gina's little hopper mouse and she came flying out mouth open and just swinging all over haha. Then she closed the mouth and looked at me so I moved the hopper to her mouth and she grabbed it. Now she is sitting in her cool hide with just her head at the door.
Rango was buried in the front of his cage with just his head sitting on the litter dam. So I hung his mouse above his head and he shot up like a rocket and sprayed aspen all over and grabbed his mouse. It was like a great white shark jumping out of the water grabbing a seal but the snake version haha. These little snakes act like they are starving to death. They get a meal every week although I do feed on the smaller side. Now Rango is sitting with his head back on the litter dam covered in aspen again haha.

My little Gimel is still pretty shy about food - she eats just fine, but she approaches very cautiously. Irwin, on the other hand, he literally threw himself halfway out of his enclosure last week, i had to catch him and put him back as he was constricting the rat. He's learned my habits too. i always video feedings and record how long it takes them to eat and any other pertinent info (although i must admit i also made a cool feeding video last year) so i suction-cup mount a camera inside the tub before i even have the rat in the room, but the last few times he's totally relaxed as usual until he sees the camera, then he starts getting "the look", after that i dont get my hands anywhere near him without a pair of tongs between us.
-
Haha yeah Gina was like that tonight. She flew out of her house with mouth open and swinging all over lol. Even Chris the breeder told me, once she gets settled in, watch out cause you will be surprised how much she likes to eat. Rango is even worse. That little snake doesn't care about anything except food when he smells it. Vicky is the same way but you can tell with her as he pupils get really huge which means she is going into food mode haha. Rosey used to slam stuff like a freight train but I think she is getting used to food being dead so she just hits it quick but doesn't try and punch a hole in the food lol.
Kind of funny tonight. It was feeding night for all the little ones and Caesar. Luna went bananas and slammed her mouse so hard she flipped her hide over and started hissing lol. Never seen her so gung ho for food before.
-
-
Nice!
I think she may end up on the larger side. She's got a beautiful, good sized head already.
-
Thanks. I personally do hope she gets on the bigger side lol. I like my snakes big :D As long as they aren't aggressive. Rosey is between 6.5-7' and i just reach in, drag her out and sling on my shoulder and she's fine with it lol. Caesar, i just drag his butt out too and try and throw him over a shoulder and that usually ends with him climbing down my leg or stretching out trying to grab something or the ceiling. Really laid for temperament but just a spazz for cruising around. And Vicky at 5' or so is laid back too but not so much into hanging out on me as Rosey is. Vicky is more find her own stuff to do lol. Gina though like i said is like Rosey. She seems to like to sit on me and then stretch out and check stuff out but not actually climb onto it haha.

I hear ya there!
A big, beautiful Poki, Suri is probably the ultimate snake IMO. I think you and I are pretty on par with why we like boas. I could be completely content with a collection of boas and boas only. I could probably be the same with carpets. I think my coasty is the most entertaining of all the snakes here so far. However if Wallace falls into the gap I want him to fall into, he will really be special.
But back to Gina, which is a beautiful Italian name IMO. She really is a special animal and I hope she hits the 7-8 foot mark for you.
I'll see what my friend's Poki female is at and let you know.
Here is some interesting info about the Pokigron Suris.
http://www.boa-constrictors.com/en/b...rinam_pokigron
Bottom line,,,,, I'm a Gina fan!
-
Thanks and yeah I hope Gina hits the 7-8' mark. I think it might be time to up her food size. The breeder was feeding her medium mice but told me to start out smaller for a few feedings which i was going to do anyways. She's had 3 feedings of hopper mice and this last one, she folded it in half and ate it like a sandwich lol. So this next feeding I'm going to look at a small adult and compare it to a hopper. She LOVES to eat lol. This last round, she shot out like a bullet with mouth open and swinging wildly haha. Good thing i was using tongs. She isn't shy about going for food.

Awesome,
I told you my friend who used to chat somewhat regularly with Gus, said to keep them on mice for their first year didn't I?
Sounds like you are anyhow, just wanted to make sure. She will grow slower than your BCI boas, but I think when she hits the 6 foot mark will be remarkably beautiful. She isn't even colored up yet age wise and she's still smoking hot to look at.
-
Thanks and yeah Gina is going to be on mice until she is large enough for weaned or small rats. I do that with all my boas as switch a boa to different food involves just hanging the new food in front of their face lol. Caught Gina prepared for dinner tomorrow. She has already assumed the position at the door lol.

Haven't posted anything recent with Gina as I'm waiting for her to shed but i did catch her out and about tonight when lights went out. She worse than Caesar with the cage gap. Here she is using the whole gap to climb around in lol. Crazy little snake.

Nice looking boa Sauzo. That tail is fire. :)
-
She sure is one great looking snake. Perfect jigsaw running down her body into that badass tail. Really nice!!
-
Thanks. She is starting to get a nice buckskin brown color on the top of her back. Can't wait until she gets older and gets her adult colors.

LMAO - I was just about to post a thread and ask if anyone else with an AP enclosure notice their snakes use that gap. All 3 of mine do that at night and I was concerned they were too hot and needed the cool glass to regulate. WHEEEW
She looks great by the way!

Lol yeah, both the little boas love to play around the gap in their AP cages at night. I dont know about your cages being too hot though. I keep my ambient in my cages around 79-82F depending on the room temp and humidity. Then they all got their 92F flexwatt to sit on.

Thanks. She is definitely one of my jewels in the collection. Now when the 3 T25s get here mid July and i get everything set up, I'm not sure i am going to be able to resist a Peruvian BCC and/or maybe a pure Pokigron male since I'll have 2 empty cages begging to be filled......not sure what's worse, being a crackhead or being a boa junkie hahaha :P

Was told by a guy on another site that i should be proud to own her as she is an awesome looking Atjoni Pokigron by Christopher Wolf who is an awesome pure Pokigron breeder carrying on Gus Rentro's work. And i am. She is definitely one of my jewels in the collection. Might pick up a male from Chris or maybe an Iquitos or Pucallpa Peruvian as he breeds pure bloods of them too as well some boas I have never even heard of. He told me not many people breed them and i left it at that as i know the price is going to probably knock me out of my chair haha.

Looking good.
The lateral compression of the body is one of my favorite boa traits. On the Suri boas it is even more pronounced!

Yeah, she is definitely tall and thin like a ribbon. Kind of funny though because she also will flatten herself and get flat and wide sometimes as well. I can totally see with her how Gus Rentfro said using belly heat over RHPs was better for boas. Sometimes when she sits on me while i lay in bed and watch tv, she will flatten out and look like a pancake on my chest and other times she looks like a little ribbon. Much more pronounced with her as a BCC than it was on my BCIs.
She is definitely a character and I'll never get rid of her poop picture lol. Still can't believe the first night here and she drops a deuce in the track while i have the camera ready to take her pic.
-
So i was talking to Chris Wolf tonight. The breeder i got Gina from. Looks like i missed out on his BCL litter as those dropped last year and so he didnt pair them up this year but will next year. And he breeds Pucallpa Peruvians too but those won't be ready for another couple years. Good news though is one of his Rio Bravo Poki girls who is unrelated more or less to my girl is ovulating so if all goes well, i might be picking up a male pure Rio Bravo Poki as a 'pet' in Sept and later down the line, if i do decide to breed, i will have pure blood Rentfro Pokis.

I LOVE how her head spear is connected to the first saddle.

That is a very special boa.
Gus Rentfro, IMO was a purist when it came to locality animals.
While he did selectively breed, he ALWAYS respected and cherished the "wild type" animals. If I recall correctly one of the boas he felt was one of the most beautiful boas he'd seen was a dark and speckled, wild, Peruvian BCC.
Sauzo, and I have beautiful animals created by Gus.
Gus is the boa God, and his knowledge and passion for ALL locality boas is admirable!

If you think about getting a pure locality boa, check out Chris Wolf. I really didnt know too much about him but i listened to him and Vin Russo talk on Herp radio episode 9. I guess Chris and Vin are friends and Chris also believes in the purist way for boas and never crosses anything. All his breeder stuff is from Vin or Gus. He has the same mindset as Gus and Vin. All his stuff is paper work tracked and/or CITES backed as he doesnt want 'mutts'. He breeds a lot of pure local stuff, not just Surinames. He breeds BCLs, BCOs, BCC and all 'purist' boas. He doesnt do morphs though. Like i said, i wanted a really dark almost black BCL aka Peruvian Longtail but he wont have another litter until next year. So I'll probably pick up another Gus Rentfro Pokigron male from him :) These locality boas are kind of addicting haha.

Think I need a Gina update with a few pictures bud.
I get really snakey in the summer time.
Sniper is in shed and turns 5 June 28th. He's a big fella now approaching 7 feet. He's going to be fed well this summer after a winter off.
I still have Suri syndrome and would really like to own one some day.
Until then gimme some G!

Haha, i was playing with Gina last night in bed while watching TV. She was having a blast crawling around my head. Then after about an hour of her exploring, she got tired or bored and just plopped her butt on my hand and laid her head down on the blanket. She sat like that for about 30 mins before i decided it was bed time and tried to put her back. She wasnt too keen on the idea and tried to double back and stretch out to reach my neck to sit out more lol. I directed her head to her hide and she went in but immediately doubled back and sat there looking at me. She was not amused with being put back haha.
Here's a few indoor pics of her. She wasnt too thrilled as today is dinner day so was expecting that and not picture day lol. She's starting to get some pinks on her sides.
And Sniper is probably bigger than Rosey. Rosey is around 6.5' and about the same age.

She is getting big. Enormous head on her. So pretty!
-
Thanks. She is filling out a little and her sides are starting to get some pink in them. Her top is getting that golden brown too.
And she LOVES to eat her little hopper mice.
-
Looking good! Just what I needed!
-
She looks good Sauzo!
I agree with Cletus, that head looks big, I bet it will get Much bigger. :)
-
Haha she does have a pretty big head but the rest of her is starting to fill out now and like i said, she is starting to get some pinks on her side and her top is getting that golden brown. Also she is such a lounger. Was laying on the bed watching tv last night and she decided to wrap her tail on my hand and lay down as well lol. Was funny, i tried to give her smaller hides incase she didnt like the bigger ones and she actually didnt like the smaller hides. She poked her head inside and doubled back and looked at me. Then she went and curled up under her shelf behind her water bowl. When i gave her the large RB hides back, she immediately went into the warm one and did her normal pose in the pic. Guess she likes her hides big lol. Here she is waiting for dinner haha.

So i decided to go back to the PlantIt ReptiChips stuff today as i was cleaning Dottie, Rango and Gina. I checked and it seems its no longer sold in the big 2.5cu ft blocks anymore. Only in the smaller blocks. Luckily i still have 2 blocks left but if Gina likes it, i might have to go back to paying the hefty price for ReptiChips lol.
And yes i know, i was just using aspen. I like to switch up their substrates here and there. Everyone seems to enjoy the change and seems to make them want to explore more. Gina has never been on it so she was kind of hesitant to get on it. She sat in my hand and sniffed it awhile and then slowly explored her hide while holding onto my fingers with her tail lol. Rangos been on it for awhile before so he took to it like duck on water.
Still havent tried cypress mulch and was thinking of ordering a few bags to try but I've also read it is pretty sharp as its not shredded but kind of like splintered? Anyone that has used the Zoo Med stuff got any input on it?

I used the zoo med forest floor stuff for years and liked it pretty well. Doesn't hold humidity for quite as long or absorb odors as reptichip/coco husk but does fairly well. For the cost I'd go for reptichip over forest floor though. Unless you've got a good deal on it somewhere.
Also, not having the 2.5cu ft blocks anymore explains why they haven't shipped the other half of my order since it was placed two months ago. Not giving anymore business to greenhouse megastore. They didn't even know that the they had shipped the 2 of 4 blocks I ordered, and then said around the beginning of May that I'd get the second two blocks in a week or two. Never happened.

Lol I got another one to add. Decided to let Gina hang out on me while I watched TV after being outside. Then I go to put her back in her cage and I think she learned from Vicky, Rosey and Caesar as now she seems to want to do this with the doors open. Either that or she's seeing what Rango is up to :P

She's so beautiful! I just love her clear colors.
SIGH I still want a Suriname red tail, but I literally have zero room left.. especially after I get a russian rat snake.

Haha i hear ya. After my 3 T25s get here, I'll have 2 extra cages. Cant decide between a Peruvian BCC, a BCO, a male version of Gina from Chris Wolf, or a another SD retic like an ultra ivory or something. I've always been a boa guy so I'm leaning towards probably a Peruvian BCC and a nice almost black BCO.
-
Well, i think Gina is getting ready to shed. She has become antisocial and dark in color. Pretty much exactly what Rosey does when she is getting ready to shed. So soon, we'll see some nice fresh vivid Gina :)
