lol he's actually kind of thin in my opinion. Probably just looks chunky here because you can't see his full length. Definitely not skinny but not fat either. Very toned and maybe a little over 3.5'. Can't believe he's going to be one year old on Wednesday.

It's like 50* here. Just got done talking to Chris about shipping my Suri tomorrow and it all looks good on my end and his for tomorrow with a Wednesday arrival. Man, I'm chomping at the bit lol.

Gerald seems pretty mellow. If that was Caesar, he would be going bonkers cruising all over me lol. He's like that quiet kid you meet, then once he gets to know you, he turns into a spazz :P

Gerald is mellow as can be. Provided he's got a good grip on something. I'm guessing once he warms up to me he'll be a curious little spaz just like Phyllis and Caesar haha!
Can't wait to see that suri!!! Pics at once!!!

Lol yeah I'm sure Gerald will become a spazz once he gets used to you and nice and happily full on food an energy lol.

Oh yeah, I'll start a thread when she gets here. Guess Chris might be having another litter this summer if anyone is interested in pure Rio Bravo Pokigron Suris. And the price is pretty decent too.

Thanks dude! Had a pretty nice day of packing up artwork to send to some shows and new collectors, started a new drawing for a new engraving that I'm planning, played with all the snakes, and then ate way too much pizza and beer. All in all, I'd say it was a good day. [emoji482][emoji216][emoji439]

    I'll get there.

I'm waiting for a REAL spring here in Minneapolis.

I will take some "family" photos out in the true sunlight.

Wallace, I presume will go into shed within a week or so. I just fed him two small rats tonight after 12 days of nothing.

I'm hoping he sizes up a bit coming into his first year.

Once he hits the large rat mark, he will be offered 1 large rat every 10-14 days, or the quail/rabbit equivalent. That should be his adult meal size and interval.

I think he's stunning and maintain that the Tiger Retic pattern is my personal favorite color and pattern of any snake. Although rhino vipers are right up there along with the Suriname boas like Sauzo and a very few others have here.

The right Bredli carpet as well, but Wallace just has a certain mojo LOL!

Gerald is getting more and more curious and explorative each time I work with him. Definitely starting to get a bit more comfortable and confident about handling, doesn't just clench to my wrist like he's going to fall to his death quite like he did at first haha. So tiny for being a year old already

Gene was that way when I got him. As soon as he was out of his enclosure, he would just hang on for dear life. Now when I get him out he will literally just chill for like 10 minutes before slowly wondering around.

Wish it was warm and sunny up here lol. Tomorrow the Plant IT stuff should arrive so it will be cage cleaning day for Caesar, Rosey and Vicky.

And on a side note, ordered my last T8 today for Luna. So now just need to focus on 3 T25s for now and then another one later for Gina when she gets big.

Let me know how the Plant !t coco chips compare to reptichip. I need to order a new batch of substrate soon and have my eyes set on Plant !t at the moment.
I need to call AP again tomorrow to get my order confirmed and in the works. Called to place it two weeks ago and Ali said she would call early last week to let me know what better ideas they had to raise the bottom door track then eliminate the gap by the right door. Never called so I called last Thursday and she said she'd get back to me the next day... nothing. Getting kind of annoying, considering I'm trying to give them a hefty chunk of $. I get it, I'm asking to have a non customary modification made to a cage, but it's a real simple fix. Just want to know the dang thing is in the work orders and confirmed.

Meh, I would personally just have it made normal. I mean with Caesar, when he pushes, its not just the bottom. He will push on the sides of the door and the top of the door lol. But he is getting better at not pushing. Seemed mostly when he was a baby and growing. Now he seems to kind of stabilized so he mostly just sits on top of his hides and looks out the front of the cage lol.

AP are probably pretty busy. I talked to Ali awhile today when placing my order and she said they fell way behind because they had an issue with the black door tracks not coming in. I told her no rush on the cage as I didn't pay it off or put anything down. I told her to just put me in line for one and call me when its done and I'll pay her.

And I'll for sure let you know how the Plant It stuff works. Scheduled to be here tomorrow. Also need to let Ali know how the Herpstats work as sunrise/sunset light timers as she hasn't had a customer use them for it yet so she is curious so she can let customers know if others ask. I only set up the sunrise and sunsets to be 1 hour long so we'll see how it works.

Oh and you going for the big enchilada on the T25? Lights, shelf, flexwatt, lock?

Never mind, Ali sent me an email about an hour ago. I'm in line for production with my order. They're just thinking up possibly better ideas for building up the track. With the way Phyllis pushes there's no way I can have that gap. Leave it without the gap filler for a day and she gets a new scrape on her bottom jaw almost every time aside from a day or two after feeding. And yeah, doing all the bells and whistles. Shelf, routed for LEDs (using my own), pro-products RHP shipped to AP to be installed, hole cut for thermostat probe, locks, custom bottom door track... snake chateau for sure hahah

Eww an RHP!!?? Belly heat all the way!!! J/k. I cant use a RHP for my house. I keep it too warm. RHP would offer next to nothing for a hot spot unless I cranked it way up and then it would turn the whole cage into an oven lol.

So Phyllis still pushes bad eh? Like I said, Caesar did for awhile when he really wanted food as I've now learned he was putting it towards growth lol. But now he's pretty laid back. If I go longer than a week though, he does seem to get antsy and will cruise all over and pace the front and push some but nothing like when he was young.

And you definitely need to post picks of it when set up. You going the Gio full on nature boy set up? Or the Sauzo, keep it plain and sterile set up? Lol.

RHP's are a great way to heat the cage and have a hot spot. It may not work for you, but there are plenty of others it does work for.

Not only do they create a hot spot, they create ambient temps within the cage that can't be obtained with belly heat alone. You must have fairly tolerant household members, because my family would be rather pissy if we had our home at temps over 70-71 degrees year round.

This guy uses AP T-25's and RHPs for all his larger retics and burns.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPMlSFjQYZ0&t=926s

His biggest snakes are in the Biggest AP units you can buy.

There are many ways to do things, and many different approaches to caging and setups.

So "Belly heat all the way" isn't for everybody, nor are my naturalistic setups, or another person's tub/rack setups.

People that have been doing this for a while usually have a system they are comfortable with.

I like your setups, actually a lot, but they'd never work here.

Are you sticking with the T-25's for the largest cages Sauzo? I wish they were 24" tall and I'd grab one, but they charge for the $625 T-30 model to do it, and then add delivery. No can do here. I never heard from Matt I was going to visit yesterday, but Ed has me down for a sweet double cage.

I'll probably split the difference between full on display enclosure and minimalist set up. Two hides, loose substrate, big water bowl, I may install a perch or two as well. We'll see though. Either that or build a pvc jungle gym and wrap either in that flexi vine stuff with some fake foliage. Whatever makes for the most enriching environment for Phyllis while still being easy to work with and get her out of the cage without too much trouble.
There's no way I could do flexwatt only. I move somewhat frequently and never know how well insulated my place will be so RHP is the fail safe for me at the moment. I can always add heat tape if needed in the future but the panels are doing great for me for the last year.
I watch that same guys videos Gio. He's located a couple hours from me in Kansas City, MO. Quite the collection.
Personally I think Wallace would do fine in a 6'x2'x2' but what works best for you and your critter is the best solution. ;)
I'll have to get my gf to take some pics next time I have Phyllis out. She's becoming quite the impressive animal. Right about 7' and starting to put on some weight and girth. I still think she's going to hit at least 8'+ before she tops out though

    Yeah,

He's a class act. He really does a nice job with all his animals and is quite conservative as far as safety goes.

I was kidding about belly heat all the way. There is no 'best' way and anyone who says there is is an idiot. Every situation requires a different set up. But really there are 3 setups....RHP alone, flexwatt alone, and RHP with flexwatt.

And yeah, I'm sticking to the T25s for end game caging. I personally think 18" will work fine for me. It's high enough to let me easily clean a 30" deep cage with a shelf. Honestly, none of my snakes really care to climb a lot. I mean they will sit up on the shelf here and there and hang their heads down but really for the most part, they seem to love to sit on top of their hides lol.

Caesar turns 1 year old May 18th. I kind of think he might be a little bigger than Kris said. But he might be right. Kris said, he should top out at 7' or a little under. He is thickening up. Here's a pic I just took of him being lazy like the boas haha. I swear, all my snakes love to just stretch out and lounge.https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...1f979774_h.jpg

That guy in the video is even more minimalist that me lol. I personally am not a fan of using paper for substrate. Nice looking AP cages though. Not sure I would go white after having a white Pro-Line.

And a 6x2 would be fine for Wallace. I was reading some stuff from Bob Clark in Reptiles Magazine and he was talking about how a lot of people tend to try and give retics huge cages and in actuality, they like smaller caging.

And it looks like the AP LEDs don't dim so using the Herpstat to try and simulate sunset didn't work. It does ramp the power down but even at 1%, the LED is as bright as at 100%. Oh well, back to just using the normal lamp timers lol.

Gerald got bumped up to medium rats tonight. Slammed it no problem, but then Geoffrey refused his small rat... Gerald ate that too! He is going to be in quite the coma lol. Thought about giving it to Phyllis but I'm working on the 10-12 day feeding schedule with her and she's at day five so I'm not going to cave in haha! Gerald could use the meal anyway. He's kinda tiny but I don't think he'll break 6' if I keep him at 7-10 days on mediums for the rest of the year. He's only about 4' as it is. Maybe 600+ grams? Tiny little thing for being almost 14 months old https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7c91f6b00f.jpg

Look at that face. I love their faces. BPs look like puppies. Retics remind me of teenagers for some reason...

They act like it too. Caesar had a massive tantrum last night either because he was hungry or because i closed his cage door as he learned how to hold onto the litter dam with his tail and slide down the cage stack to the floor and go wandering. He spent the night shoving his hides around, shoving the water bowl all over and pushing aspen into piles. I could hear the hides scraping across the cage floor as he was shoving them around lol......pretty much all night long :taz:

Gerald might be the filthiest snake ever. Any time he drops a deuce if I don't notice and clean it within a couple minutes he manages to crawl all through it, mash it into his hides, smear it on the door and cage walls and all over himself. Gross. I've had to clean poop off of this animal probably 5 times since I got him. Good thing he's well mannered otherwise. A little flighty but otherwise calm when being handled. I think he's going to go into shed in the next week or so again. Getting a little pink on his belly. Obligatory picture of my little poo painter haha https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dfdad7de2a.jpg
He and Phyllis are definitely going to have more minimal and easily cleaned/disinfected cages once Gerald gets moved to the T8 and Phyllis is in her T25. Should be done in a couple weeks! Love retics but man... so much more high maintenance in terms of cleaning. Good thing they're full of awesome personality lol

Hahaha welcome to my world. Rosey did that a long time ago. She took a poop while i was sleeping i guess and i woke up to all the walls, the plexi door and even the celing painted in poo. She also had a white urate stripe going down her head which i have no idea how she did lol. It took hours to clean even in my minimal setups. For a while after that, i was calling her Ms. Poocasso :D

I'm lucky in that no one else including Caesar does that. He did get a smudge of poop on his face so i had to wipe it off which he wasnt happy with. So i had to hold him firm and wipe his face. He must have thought he did something wrong because the minute i left him go, he just laid down on the cage floor like he was scolded or something like a puppy who pee'd the floor. After i pet him, he went back to normal.

So you got the T25? Why the heck no pics man!!!??? Holding out on us? ;)

Lol T25 isn't done yet. Definitely will post pics once it's assembled and inhabited. Probably won't be done until late June-early July which presents a slight dilemma... I'm moving at the end of July and not sure if I want to hold off a bit and build it once I'm moved or go ahead and set it up and have Phyllis in it for a couple weeks before packing the truck. Just want to minimize stress on the critters during the move and kinda concerned that putting two snakes in new cages for a couple weeks and then moving them as soon as they're settled would be a bit much all at once. Everyone will probably be in temporary plastic tubs for a couple days while packing the moving truck and getting into a new apartment too. If you were in my shoes would you just switch everyone to their new cages for a bit before moving or hold it off until relocated?

If you are moving in 2 weeks, i personally would just hold off. Not like 14 days in the old cages is going to change anything anyways as far as the snakes. But for your moving, much easier to move an already packed cage than to try and move a fully assembled cage especially a 6 foot one lol.

Those are pretty much the same thoughts I was having. I'm not moving until the end of July but didn't want to put animals in new cages for long enough to settle in and then immediately move them to tubs and back to cages within a few days.
Moving a packed, flat T25 would be easier than when it's assembled for sure. But that presents my next dilemma... I could build it now and let the sealant cure and then it's ready to go when I'm done moving, or I could move it flat and then have to assemble it and have to let it cure for 3-5 days before I can put Phyllis in it. Hmmmmm.... haha! I may just build it up and then get snakes in their new cages as soon as I'm relocated. As much as that would be harder to move it would be less hassle and wait time getting the stack of cages back in order in a new apartment. I tend to over analyze logistical things like this when moving

Lol, i would leave it packed up. Just make sure the glass isnt broken and no damage and then just assemble and cure at the new place if it was me.

I would keep it packed until the move. It's safer that way. Unless... an you get into the apartment a little early? You could get it over there, built and curing before the big move.
