Beginner Snake

I lost track of how many people in this thread are looking for a first snake, but I got my first 6 months ago (well, first one since I was a kid) and after much reading and you- tubing (handling vids are an invaluable resource for getting an idea of size and temperament of various species) I went with a Central American boa. While he does not have a true dwarf pedigree, the breeder chose his parents for their diminutive size, and CA's trend to the smaller side in general, he is also a male. Anyway, I couldn't be happier, now contemplating another snake and really can't think of anything i'd like more than another boa (but bigger!). When handling he's friendly, inquisitive and active, but not at all squirmy. I have several "parking spots" in my house where I know he'll happily perch while i Get a drink or make a sandwich or whatever (I do make sure he is always in my line is f sight) and I have logged many hours of work with him wrapped around my shoulders.
So, sorry to ramble, but little boas are awesome. Husbandry is basically the same as BP but they always ALWAYS eat and happen to require very little food, a rat every few weeks at most. For really little ones look for documented island locales like cauker cay or pearl island, hog island are popular and beautiful but get a bit bigger than other dwarfs.

Myself , I use the free APP called TapaTalk which is great if you use loads of different forums as their all in one place using the same format ... more importantly the app has a built in PHOTO UPLOAD option where you just click one button and it appears in the thread of hour choice !!!

This is him as a youngster. Not bitey, not musk prone at all. A very rare morph of garter snake. The only reason this guy is a tad flighty is bc he is a breeder and doesn't get handled much at all.

Beautiful! My son and i found a den of garter snakes in our neighborhood so he is now very interested in them - I may have to give them some serious consideration.
