P.s. I used a soldering iron for the holes
Oh, I have an idea. If you make the hole in the Ziploc containers but it's a bit sharp, cover the edges with duct tape. If you're going to the pet store, any of the cave type hides in the reptile section work.

Don't EVER put any kind of tape in your snakes enclosure. :colbert::colbert:

All right, didn't know that.

Any tape inside an enclosure becomes tape stuck to a python's head. They're talented that way.
If the edges seem sharp, I just heat it with a grill lighter to sort of melt the edge smoother. Don't breathe the fumes from that burning and wash it well after it's cool. I usually just use plastic cereal bowls or white plastic mixing bowls. Just cut or burn a half circle door and put it in upside down. My current set is all purple Halloween bowls.

Enough holes??
Placed Loki in his 41 qt tub and he's non stop moving around looking like he wants out. There 2 rows of holes along each long side...and eight on top of lid.. can he breathe?
-
He can breath just fine, I'm sure. Be careful with how many holes you put in the top though, it'll affect your humidity. More holes- less humidity, less holes-more humidity.

I didn't put as many holes in the top lid as I did alon the sides... I put 4 on each short side of the lid.. IF I did put too many...will I have to get a whole new lid??

No, providing the right amount of holes isn't an exact science, it's all based on your outside/inside temp and humidity. If you put too many, and the humidity is decreasing, you can always cover a few holes with some sort of tape, like electrical. Then, if the humidity increases too much, you can remove some tape and expose the holes until you find the perfect amount that sustains the level of humidity you seek.

Ahhhhh... got it! Thnxx much 😊
Question, I put paper towel but he keeps moving it all around and now it's like over him and messy lol. . Any suggestions? ?

Re: Just want him better!
Well I think he is just a little stressed with being in a whole new environment. Give him some time to settle down again and offer him more hides to hide in if needed. Clutter up his space.
I find paper towels to be flimsy underneath that muscle. Alduin is 357g and even crumples up a bit of his newspaper when I freshly lay some down. If you are concerned about him crumpling and messing up the paper towels, maybe try something sturdier? Like newspaper. I've seen videos where a breeder will put down some newspaper just to find it crumpled in a corner and their bp just laying directly on the tub floor. Pretty sure it doesn't harm the snake so long as your temps are dialed in correctly.
Don't worry. You seem to be doing fine. I hope this helps!

Re: Just want him better!
The activity level is because he's in the new tub and thoroughly exploring it. As for the paper towel, they like to burrow. If "messy" means that he's rearranged it and it isn't neat and tidy any more, don't worry about it. Let him burrow and rearrange, it'll probably taper off as he settles into the new quarters. And it'll it doesn't, you get the amusement of seeing what the latest changes are. [emoji6]

If you cover any of the holes with tape, make sure you put the tape on the outside and not the inside.
You can use newspapers instead of paper towel, and you can also put wadded newspaper in the tank for him to push around and hide under if he likes.

I finally have the temps where they need to be and my humidity is at a steady 56... he seems calm, and happier then 2 weeks ago. Thankful for this site and everyone here!
As soon as I figure out how to post a pic.... I'll drop one 😊

So I thought. . Smh... humidity is fine. Between 50-60 always. .when it drops I spray the moss and it rises back up to where it should be. My thing is my thermostat isn't here yet and my baby don't have any belly heat. He's in my room with me. . And my room is always at 82-85°. But, is there anything I can do to be sure he's fine until it comes. Also if I have the short, long 41qt. Sterilite what size heating pad should I have? ? Mine says Flukers 6x11, 7 watts, 110 volts. .????

If your room is always going to be 85F you don't need any additional heat for him.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
I just wanted to let you know of my experiences with paper towels. I think they're awesome and I don't use anything else! My two ball pythons love them as substrate. They rearrange it as they please and they love to sneak beneath and use the paper as an extra hide. They very rarely use their hides and I'm considering taking them out because every time I go in there, they've knocked their hide over and they're under the paper, lol.
Now, I also have a brazilian rainbow boa and they require high humidity. I can still accomplish this using paper towels. I have a large water dish and I leave it over the heat mat. The heat spreads the humidity around perfectly, and I don't need any other source of humidity in there. She does have a humid hide and she uses it sometimes if she needs an extra boost.
I read through the entire thread and I think you're on the right track! Don't be afraid if things get 'messy'. Snakes tend to rearrange their cage how they want them. I don't even bother trying to 'fix' their tubs anymore. I figure they know how to make things comfortable for them lol.

Also, since things have changed so much for him, I would give him time to settle in. I'd treat it exactly as I would when getting a new snake. Get things settled and leave him alone for a good week without any handling. He needs to get used to his new surroundings.

Taking this all in and going to let him chill for a bit.....he's set up pretty nice and I think he'll grow to like it.
Any tips on feeding him...he eats live and I feed him ecru other week. But is it best to take him out? And where??

You can feed him in the cage, but I don't know if the prey would try to hide in his hides. You could just remove the hides and then feed him in his cage. And I'd feed him every 7 days as he's still a bit young, as I recalled. When he's 2-3 years old/4-5 feet every 2 weeks is okay.

I don't feed live so I can't give any tips there. I firmly believe in feeding inside the enclosure, though. For f/t I just dangle the rat in there and they snatch it up. If I WAS feeding live, I'd probably remove everything and replace it after to avoid injury/prey hiding.
