He looks amazing! I cant wait for my baby BRB to get bigger.

Re: New Arrival
Thanks everyone!
He's been growing steadily, and I believe is a good size for his age even with my more conservative feeding.

Re: New Arrival
Well as usual he got super enthusiastic about feeding time. He flew through the air, twisting until he just happened to hit the mouse. This was the result. I need to start filming feeding time with him, it's always so hilarious. He misses all the time and acts like a dork until by chance he finds his food.

I think keeping the mouse still throws him off lmao He's easily the snake with the most insane feeding strikes. Even the retic just pulls the rat off the tongs down to the floor, but Sanji just completely flips out. It's relatively normal when he actually hits his target though. Haha He just has really terrible aim.

I read a lot of your posts, and I really enjoy them. Just a really friendly concerned piece of advice. Switch to tweezers, I would hate to see him try to squeeze into one of the openings. Definitely something to think about as he grows. Peace, enjoy.

New Arrival
I would use tweezers but they simply don't have enough reach, and he would just be even more confused during feeding time by the proximity of my warm hand.
If it becomes a problem, when he gets larger I'll just set his mice/rats down in his enclosure until he becomes large enough for that not to be an issue. For now, this will work. If he can fit through it before eating he can fit in it after as generally his meals do not leave a bulge.

Re: New Arrival
I found him in the middle of shed the other day! He weighed in at 93 grams, but I don't think he gained 7 grams in only a week, so he'll be weighed again after he finishes shedding.

He's also become a lot more alert lately, he's been following my finger like the other younger snakes and the garters. He now reacts if I pretend to poke his head....He used to not even flick his tongue, even if I poked his head and wouldn't react to any movement, completely ignoring everything.

New Arrival
While BP.net is working on Tapatalk...Just as short update Sanji weighed 97 grams as of his last weight recording, and is currently digesting a meal. No pics for the moment because of this.
Oh! Also, after this meal he will officially be moved onto a 14 day schedule as he has turned 1 year old.

Re: New Arrival
Yet another snake showing current signs of a shed cycle. The photos don't illustrate this well, but in person his head has that scale separation that occurs when a snake is in shed and his colors are slightly muted and clouded, and he's got that soft, slightly tacky feel to his skin.
Unusually for him, he wasn't huffing when I picked him up, though. Usually the huffing alone tells me he's shedding. Lol

Looking good there!
You have excellent diversity in your collection.
You'll be a great asset when folks have questions about how different species stack up against one another.

Thanks! Sometimes I have whims of what species I get, but I think I'll mostly focus on BRBs and boa constrictors now, unless something else catches my eye. :P Still got a few on my wishlist....

Re: New Arrival
Last I weighed Sanji he was 128 grams. I'd have to check when that was exactly but it was either when he went into shed about 3.5 weeks ago or it was before I fed him 2 days ago. I think it was the former, though. So, I'll be weighing him again once he clears out some poo.
After several weeks of 50-60F weather it was actually 75-77F today, so I tried to take some photos of him outside. Unfortunately, the sun made it absolutely impossible to see the screen so I couldn't tell if the camera was focused or not, and the sun was unbelievably hot so that didn't last long. I basically had to aim the camera at him and hope it focused on its own, and I did get a few good photos.

Sanji is looking great BSG. BRB's have really piqued my interest lately. I love their iridescence, colors and size. Is maintaining their high humidity requirements a bother? The recommended temp ranges seem pretty low which is nice.

Nope the humidity is really easy to achieve because they're currently in tubs, but mold growth in the bedding is a real bother. I've found a good balance in Sanji's tub, which I think is because the tub is big and tall, allowing the bedding to air out faster. Guin is going to be going into River's tub whenever my PVC arrives, so hopefully I'll have to deal with it a little less since River's is even bigger and taller than Sanji's.

So apparently my local pet shop shut down, so the past few feedings I've just been giving him two hoppers, but I may have to break down and buy some mice from Petsmart because I'm just not having a day off where I can go to the pet store 40 mins away.
-
I'd send you some of mine, if I could! I just got four rats to form a breeding colony - but I've got three female mice that gave birth, and between them there are 27 little crawlers and hoppers just getting their eyes open! And just when I get a good batch of mice, my BP's are getting so big they need rats already...

Yeah, I was just going to buy a few adult mice to hold him over and some mouse pinks to hold my eastern garter over, until I buy my next shipment the weekend after next. But then the pet store that's only a few minutes away turned out to be shut down! And the one 40 mins away closes at 7pm or 9pm I don't remember, and I normally work in the evenings so I don't get off on time. See, the good thing about the local pet store is it's close enough I can make a quick trip there before work, but I might be late if I try to go to the one out of town. There are closer pet stores, but they're mostly Petsmart/Petco/Pet Supermarket, so I try not to go there.
I am picking up 3 female mice tomorrow to breed with the male I have, so maybe here in the next couple of months I'll start breeding my own. But I'll still have to buy rats in the mean time, because I don't have room for a rat colony. Gotta find a way to modify the shed outside so that they won't overheat or get too cold, and then I'll get some rats set up out there.
-
Unfortunately, I could only find one place in Reno that sold live rats. I got four, and ended up with three girls and a boy... and all of them thin, clearly unhandled, covered in filth, and they were snuffling and sneezing. I wouldn't feed those to any snake. I've got them isolated now, trying to get them healthy. Now they're clean, fattening up, and I've got the cages covered with heat pads underneath. Got a suggestion from a friend on how to help with the breathing - I took baby food jars, punched holes in the top, put a piece of sponge inside with Vicks on it, and put that in above where the heat pad is. They loved it. They would actually sleep with their heads on top of the jar, and now I've got three that aren't sniffling and sneezing any more. So here's hoping that I can still make a colony out of them. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with your attempt at a colony that I had!

Sanji recently shed and currently weighs 161 grams. The rodent shipment should be arriving this week, so he should be started on adult mice with his next feeding.
Here are some photos of his feeding silliness.

Well, this was Sanji's second meal with an adult mouse, and the first one barely left a bulge, but this last one left a rather large bulge. So, I think I might stagger hopper mice in every other feeding as another keeper advised after all.
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/...pseqzw1jc1.jpg
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/...psujxqhcu8.jpg
And the resulting bulge. It doesn't stand out from his body much, but it resembles the bulges I saw in my BCI when I was feeding him jumbo-sized rats when he should have been eating mediums, and you can kinda see how tall the bulge is where his sides are showing. That whole top coil is the bulge.
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1wywcndm.jpg
I will also be starting up his 14 day schedule again, considering the size of the meals and that he'll be 2 in August.
-
I got outside a bit late in the day, so the lighting was terrible. Sanji's photos turned out much better than Nymeria's, though.http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/...psm7cqjvcp.jpg
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9isemcjr.jpg
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/...psss2anm2c.jpg
He's way overdue for a weighing, but I want to make sure he's empty after that big meal, so I'll probably give him a couple more days unless I find a turd somewhere.
-
Sanji came in at 186 grams yesterday. :) At this rate, maybe he'll get over 200 grams by end of April or May. He put on 25 grams since I weighed him last month, so if he puts on another 25 grams by this time next month, then he'll be doing good.
I'll continue giving him adult mice every other feeding until the bulge becomes smaller. Once he stops getting bulges, or maybe even before then, I'll switch him to rat pups or weaned rats, which ever are closer to the small adult mice from Big Cheese. I'm thinking rat pups, though.

Sanji has grown so much, he's now officially been bumped up to jumbo mice! 2 days later, and the bulge was gone, so I think he can handle it. ;)
I've also switched his and Morzan's tubs around since Morzan doesn't need all that extra space and Sanji definitely does. Another foot and he should be big enough for his own 4'x2', he just looks so tiny and noodly in one right now.
From an hour or two after eating, the bulge was small enough I'm comfortable going ahead and moving him up.

Wow the app is terrible about sending updates, so this is super late. But yeah, a lot of my updated photos are taken together, or at least over a 2 day span, unless I fall behind on uploading them.
Here are photos from January, from either the first or one of the first times he got a weaned rat.

https://68.media.tumblr.com/18d73253...tato2_1280.jpg
And these photos are more recent, the last two are from today, the other one was from a week or so ago.
I also keep forgetting to record weights, so I'll have to re-weigh him when he poops, but Sanji is still clearly growing. He should be ready for his own 4'x2' by end of the year for sure it seems. He's still too small for me to put in there yet, just because he takes up so little space due to his small girth, but he's closing in on 4' now. I think his last length measurement was 3'8" several months ago.
https://68.media.tumblr.com/2437c74a...tato1_1280.jpg
These ones are from today, he also ate yesterday, and he may be ready for smalls by the time he turns 3. My rainbows move up in prey size a lot slower, though, because of their thinner girth. But, as you can see, the weaned rats make only a small bulge (and mostly in height), so once small rats barely leave a bulge I'll move him up.
