This is really cool. So she is a hermaphrodite? You should take her to a doctors office or something see what's going on with her. Keep us updated!!

Not a hermaphrodite. Female reptiles are capable of asexual production.

guys and girls, i dont see how they are different from the mother, other than that they may have a higher inbreeding coefficient = homozygoity.

but of course we have to wait it out.

Sadly no, but if you learn to ship we could work something out! We will just have to see if the eggs hatch first :)

Very cool - you'll want to do some research on setting up an incubator or how to prepare for maternal incubation or they will not hatch, though.

I'll do some research on shipping BP's. Good suggestion.

Please remember we do not allow sales discussions outside of the PM system or the proper "for sale/ wanted" forum people.

I'm sorry to disappoint everybody, but I don't think the eggs will hatch. One has collapsed, and the other three have been dimpled for several weeks. They still have plenty of veins (whatever that means). I'll try to get some moisture in there over the next week or two. I'll keep everyone updated more often as well.

I did remove the two non fertile eggs, as they were getting kind of gross.

Remember when eggs are close to hatching they will actually dimple this is normal as far as the collapsed egg could you post a picture? This could help us Ib knowing whether or not the egg will make it

I'll try to get some photos posted. The mother does leave the eggs sometimes, especially to feed.

I'm pretty sure those are dead, but don't take my word for it. How many days old are they?

i hope it's just a pre-hatch thing, but it looks like eggs suffered from low humidity:confusd:

Re: Virgin BP laid 6 eggs!
At this point I would cut the eggs and move them to an incubator if they're good, seeing as they don't look to good. If they're alive they're likely developed enough that it wont hurt them and if they're not alive, we'll know. But since you don't have an incubator I'm not sure what to do. You don't necessarily want to remove them becAuse they could be alive but if they're dead you don't want to leave them. And you can't cut them because mama might squish out the baby juices. If the eggs are pretty soft you could try poking gently at the sides and look for movement and feel for a shape.

I threw the eggs out today. They were all very dry and firm. I cut one of them open to find a deceased BP (so I was right about them being fertile).

If she lays again, I will do it right. My research for next year's potential clutch is now beginning. Sorry everyone.

Awwww :( sorry about your eggs. Try not to beat yourself up, totally not your fault. It's amazing that she even made babies all on her own, soooo cool.

    So sorry. :(

I love the parthenogenesis stories, but so many of them don't end well because, of course, the owner wasn't expecting eggs and wasn't prepared to deal with them. I hope she'll do it again and with more knowledge you'll be successful!

    Virgin birth, part two
Some of you may remember that three years ago, my 14-year-old ball python late six eggs, four of them fertile, by way of parthenogenisis. She is now 17 years old, and is showing signs of doing this again. I will keep everyone posted!

    Whoo! Round two!:P

Seriously though-- it would be pretty cool if your female laid another partho clutch. I haven't done too much research into the phenomena but I haven't heard of any one snake having more than one occurrence of parthenogenetic pregnancy in its lifetime, so it would be very interesting to see if this is a repeated and non-random occurrence.
