Hope has been eating four times now, and is accepting f/t mouse. We are still taking it very slow, but she is definitely gaining weight! She is not so severely dehydrated anymore and definitely not as emaciated as when I got her. Everything is going pretty well :) I'll send you some new pictures after her next shed.

Re: Extremely malnourished ball
Cant wait to see the new pictures of her. Thanks for giving her a good home, nothing more that I love than a rescued pet. They always hold a special spot in your heart just because of what you've been through together.
Good luck with her

THIS IS SO INSPIRATIONAL.
YOU GO GIRL!
hahah
Thanks for making up for one of the more sub par owners out there!

Here is Hope after her first shed here, weight 197 grams:

Looks like a brand new snake! Good job!
-
Very nice! looks like she's got a little more than normal goin on too
-
Are you sure that's the same snake?
I am new to this thread and your struggle. My heart goes out to you and to her. It is not easy to take in an animal in such poor condition, knowing it is possible to loose them even after you did everything to help them. I am very surprised she is actually recovering. I was sure it would prove to be too late for her. I am glad I was wrong! To see her so much improved in so short a period of time means you are for sure doing things right. I love the name you chose, Hope is never a foolish thing. Although people will tell you it is. I look forward to seeing more pictures of her as she improves.

Thank you all for your kind words.
Yeah, it really is the same snake :D I found old picture from her on the internet, this pic was probably taken when the previous owner got her: http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps412e01a5.jpg
I think there is about 8 months between this ^ pic and the picture I took when she came to me.
Previous owner told me that she is "pastel something".

Could she maybe be a lemon pastel?

She looks like a pastel to me. And she is looking amazingly better! Glad you were able to get her and help her. :gj:

In 10 weeks Hope has tripled her weight and is feeding very steadily and willingly. Here is a picture taken this morning:

Everything is looking good with her. She's such a survivor!
What can be learned about this? Don't give up on them, even if it looks bad!

Re: Extremely malnourished ball
Wow! That is amazing! When you compare the original emaciated pic of her and that one, the difference is incredible! You did a wonderful job on bringing her back. And id say she is a pastel also. Gj :D

Here is another pic, taken maybe 3 weeks ago. She has been gaining weight still but I have not been photographing her lately so this is the newest I've got:

It'a amazing what a little TLC can do for them in that situation. Great job on the rescue!!!!
-
Wow she looks amazing! You're a really awesome person. I think a lot of people wouldn't have given her this chance and put so much effort in!
I have such a soft spot for Pastels. Wonder what she's mixed with, she definitely looks like a Pastel-something.
-
Thank you all for your kind words. It has not been too much of an effort really, she is quite a fighter! Just needed a little help in getting started.
I will definitely take some more pics after next shed. I have moved her in to a bigger enclosure (she was growing out from the little box I put her when she came) and everything seems to go well. She is such a heartbreaker!

Re: Extremely malnourished ball
Nice job! You're a hero! Man, you really really saved her life. Well done.
-
Great job on this snake jaded, I'd say that makes you keeper of the month or some such. Its great that you didn't give up, remained consistent and diligent, and helped the snake help itself.
This is a great example not only of awesome care, but the resilience of animals and their persistence to survive. Its very sad that many animals end up in deplorable states or conditions, but continue to push onward. Its really truly amazing, and I'm sure the snake is grateful to now be on the mend to "rewarded" for its desire to survive.
May sound silly, but I've seen situations where animals know you're trying to help them in a dire state and when you'd expect them to be aggressive/defensive, they actually "let" you help them. Its pretty cool. Animals aren't as dumb as we think.

Little update!
10 months after she came to me, she's doing great! Her weight is currently some where between 700 and 800 grams. I'm so proud :)

This is the first time I have seen this thread..you did an excellent job with that nice pastel..Hope is a great name for her :D
-
it's been said over and over, but worth saying again! Good job!!! credit also goes to Hope for being a tough little snake!
-
Well done sir!
Thank you for sharing your and her great journey.
-
Thank you for the update!! Great seeing how well she's growing. Can't believe it's been nearly a year since I first commented on this
-
That's awesome you still have her and she is healthy a year after that. I am glad you made this thread. It was pretty moving reading it in my tired state tonight. I agree with what zee-man said in a way as I went through something similar with a chameleon... She's a very pretty pastel and I hope her next 30+ years are great with you and she never has to go through that again.
-
You should be totally proud of yourself, that guy looks so much better than he did in the first page.
-
Hello everyone :) Hope is still doing great, just hit 1000 grams. The pic is a bit old, but I post it anyway. And she is definitely here to stay!

Re: Extremely malnourished ball
Oh my gosh. I saw this thread today and I thought it would be full of condolences and sadness, but just the opposite!! I'm sure that hope is very very happy to have you.
-
What an amazing difference! She looks lovely.
-
this is truly a excellent read..just what I needed today. I have a baby, I am trying to persuade to eat. She is not showing any interest in live pinkies or frozen thawed. I know these little guys are tough , but damn I worry. thanks for sharing your experience....
