Also, I really like the idea of an objective review board. Good call!

Give or take....Some of them (like anna) weren't necessarily interested as much as intrigued.

would you like to PM the following ones to double check their feelings on it??

    Mrl249
    Brian B801
    Mike41793
    Annarose15
    Expensive hobby

I think that TRACKSTRONG83 would make a valuable member....he really seemed interested in joining

We can vote on our mascot once we get everything setup. Let's focus on getting the member list sorted out along with the donations.

Will do. I'm at work but I do have access to a PC but only for today. Normally while I'm at work I don't have a PC to use. I'll keep looking around and I'm keeping Aaron(Serp Merch) informed on what's going on as well.

I can see this happening already... Give people a little power and boom. And the whole concept is kinda ehhh... Like ok say a new member starts a thread.. You can't rush over there and say oh you cant listen to everybody else who has already replied because they aren't a member of "cobra" or whatever. I'd say this idea is a fail. Sorry

The fact you can see it happening already shows me that you obviously don't pay attention to a lot of us that are going to be in this group. We don't go rushing saying people are wrong and this and that. The whole thing is that while yes this is an awesome community I myself have seen new members asking questions get bashed, and I mean seriously. When people ask questions that may of been asked before, I've seen people automatically reply: "Go use the search function". To me this is a pet peeve and about the most irritating thing I can read. In that time it took them to type that the question could of been answered, or if they didn't feel like it they didn't even have to respond. The point of the group is to avoid that and to always help, no matter how many times a question has been asked. If a new member everyday joins and asks how often a BP should eat, I'm going to tell them every single time that they should eat once a week, and not once will I say go use the search function. I think it's rude and discouraging to new members and I've even had new members tell me this and thank me for stating it when people say go use the search function.

We're not going to say this person was wrong or that person was wrong, now if that person gives something different then we would do, sure we can say we would do this instead of that. It's not about right and wrong. It's about giving the best possible advice to the people that keep BP's and that don't know any better.

I won't say anything more as I'm being nice, but I think you fail at your post.

So, what then, is the end goal? To have someone answer every newb's question with an actual answer? Is that the bottom line? So none of that vaguely alluded to "schooling" when the inevitable disagreement occurs? Suppose someone disagrees with you to the point that they bash one of your members? Then what? War? You guys against all comers?

I don't know. I can see the why in what you're doing, it's great to want to be helpful, but I don't see the necessity of all the work you're doing in order to be more helpful.

Instead of creating a new group doing what's already being done, why not just join in and keep it going? Drop in, drop out, no muss no fuss, no grandstanding, no broken promises, no disappointments.

But hey, you may be on to something. It'll be interesting to see what the state of affairs are in a couple of months.

My friend, we are joining in and doing what's already being done. Just we're going to commit to it and as well as try to keep the chat active when we're on. We're not going to rage war because somebody disagrees with members in the group. I'm sure some of us in the group will have different opinions at times. It's just we're going to be a dedicated group to helping and focus on that. We're going to help each other to help the other newbies that have questions. We'll communicate each other to say what has been covered and what the person asking questions needs assistance with and then go from there.

We're going to have strict rules within our group to avoid things getting out of hand and what not.

Oh well, if you've got strict rules that's ok then.

I wonder though, how and who will enforce these rules. Oh, and who gets to make them? That might be important too. Unless this is a dictatorship, then it matters not at all. I'm sure though, that you guys will get it all sorted out.

We have a board. They will enforce the rules. That way no one person dictates. Have some faith in us my friend. Everybody agrees to the rules prior and members can be removed if they break the rules.

Say Anya breaks the rules. I bring it up to the board and then everything gets put out. Since I'm the one that brought it up, I'll remove myself from the situation as I'm no longer neutral in the matter.

I think it's not so much as making things complicated, but to have more than one person make group decisions. This makes it more fair when decisions have to be made.

I guess the only concerns I've got about this whole thing is that there's often more than one right way to do something. Most of us across the board agree on the broad basics of husbandry, the differences start coming in with more advanced husbandry technique, and those are things beginners shouldn't necessarily be exposed to yet, until they get the hang of basic information and technique. So having a group that says "my way or the highway" seems a little superfluous to a lot of us more seasoned keepers (whether you've been a keeper for a year or for 30).

I'd like to see the group put a more social spin on things, certainly-- having the chatbox more widely utilized is a wonderful idea, for example. But having a group of individuals slam newbies with one answer to multifaceted questions just seems to be a predictable outcome with this sort of thing.

Best of luck, whatever comes out of it.

(I just scanned this thread, so if my concerns have already been addressed, let me know.)

Remember, we aren't mods here; If Zac wants to speak his mind let him!! We don't want to get things in an uproar right now.

As stated in a previous post (look for the Mission Statement) we are not here to say anyone is less than us because "we're part of COBRA". Anyone who begins to do this will probably have their membership questioned.

That being said, I think it would be good to make it a policy I say that "we are members of COBRA" instead of " I'm a COBRA". We don't want to make it soud like a motorcycle gang or anything; just like we would say "Im a member of USARK"

And we won't be making a one stop "Fact Sheet" with scripted answers for the particular question. Variation will be expected. The main thing is that we give sound advice, and that we don't make people feel bad because they are new or that they aren't a member of COBRA

I was definitely thinking this will be more of a group that will chime in with their advice and experience to help newbies rather than an 'us against them' type of deal. Obviously there will be differences of opinion, but we will handle them civilly (at least I hope so lol). We'll make other members aware of threads that aren't getting a whole lot of attention, or if there are 'experts' (I use that term loosely!) in one matter or another on a topic, we can direct them to members in need. I know there have been times where I haven't noticed a thread pop up in the 'unread' section, only to have the OP post a discouraging "Really? No one has experience with this??".
