She never said anything on how the burn may have occurred.

I think we can all guess: an unregulated heat mat. At least you have her and she's doing awesome. It's always amazing - for how finicky these snakes are about their enclosures, they can survive so much abuse then go on to recover like it never even happened.

Honestly, I'm thinking it was a heat rock. I'm assuming if it was a heat pad, her entire tummy would have been burnt.

All I got with her was:

    -exo terra cage
    -half log hide
    -wayyyy too big hide
    -water dish
    -heat lamp.

I then thought maybe the woman had the heat lamp INSIDE, but I guess she thought I was a n00b and was telling me how to care for her.. And that the heat lamps sit ontop of the cage.

Thank you all for the warm wishes!

Also, my little girl made TRR

Will keep you all updated. She gets her last dose of pain meds tomorrow, which is when I'll see if she'll eat an ASF for me.

The woman said at one point they were feeding her baby hamsters...

Baby hamsters? Eesh, let's hope not.

Bobba, huge hugs to you and your grandma for taking care of her. I know that even if Althea (great name) turns out to be Arthur, she's not going anywhere!

I cannot stand it when people treat any animal as disposable and not requiring common sense care. Yes, reptiles have different needs than cats or dogs, but if you bring home a free kitten or $20 snake, you are still responsible for it! If you have an internet connection, there's no excuse for ignorance.

Ok, done ranting now. I hope you keep updating this thread with pictures, since I'd love to see her continued progress.

Wow I can't believe that. So glad she's in good hands now. I really hope that chick doesn't get another pet.

I wasn't too worried about her eating, actually. She took awhile before she noticed but she sure ate it real quick!

It looks good. She only has shed up around her neck now but should be all good for now.

Her tummy is just a slight brown scab. The worst is over. Her most painful moments would have been with the original owner.

Holy crap, awesome job here, almost as if she wasn't burned. I bet she looks perfect after 1 or 2 more sheds. I am so glad some people in this world still have a heart...she's looking good!!!

    Aww that is fantastic!

See, I told you another few sheds and you would never know her belly had been so bad. I've got a rescue with a line down her belly. It was long since healed when I got her, but I knew exactly what it was from. I show it to people who see bad burns and belly rot like this, to show them what it can look like with proper care. Most people have a hard time believing they can heal from something like this, but if caught soon enough, these guys can come back from some pretty horrific stuff.
